How did you use media technologies in

Research
Throughout the research of music videos, we spent a lot
of time on the Internet, particularly on YouTube to look at
music videos by existing artists and previous music
videos by other media students.
We did this to look at how other people responded to the
task so we would have a better idea of what we had to
put in our video. We recorded all of our research using
Blogger which allowed us to show our progress over time
with videos and images to show the progress that we
made over the year towards producing our music video.
As none of us had ever created a music video before, the
research we completed was in depth and required us to
watch a lot of different videos to pick up on trends that
are featured in different music videos depending on the
genres. Watching videos from similar artists to the one
that we chose help us to get a better idea of the genre as
opposed to one specific artist which in turn helped us
work out what our content should be in order to be more
suitable for its purpose.
Our blog was also suitable for our project because we
created a custom layout which made our blog reflect our
Construction - Website
Once we had completed a suitable amount of research, we began to
construct the artefacts for our artist which consisted of a website, poster
and the music video. To create the website, we used an online software
called Weebly. We used the artist as the focus point of the website and
kept the colours used the same as ones from our poster so that we had a
consistent house style. We also used a logo and kept the layout simple to
make it easy to navigate around the pages included.
Creating a website not only helped with the music video, but helped us to
relate all of the content that we created for our artist by keeping a
consistent house style which was recognisable to the audience chosen.
House styles was something that we picked up on throughout our research
after looking at artists and finding that they all had a recognisable house
style based on colour and images used on their merchandise, posters and
websites.
Poster
To create the poster we used Adobe
Photoshop CS5. We used this software
because we had used it at AS level media so
we had basic experience with the software,
this is also a good software to create a poster
because of the editing availabilities included.
We used Photoshop to keep the design of the
poster in line with the rest of our products. It
was also suitable for its purpose because the
main photograph used in the poster is of our
artist whilst on set at the most common area
in our music video. this ties everything in
together and keeps our artist consistent by
also using the same logo that was used on
the website.
Creating the poster helped us to understand
more about house styles and how to create
them by linking this in with the rest of our
articles.
Music Video
To create our music video, we were provided with a camera that we could take
away with us to go and film in different locations. Once we had collected all of
the required footage, we then had to use Handbrake software to convert the
video files to MP4 so that we could use them in iMovie. This was a long
process but the clips came out in a good quality and the use of iMovie made it
easy for us to put our clips together and come out with the music video that we
had planned. The use of iMovie was good because we could use transitions
between our clips to make switching clips smoother and keep a flow to our
video which was necessary with our video being a narrative. The research that
we conducted came in useful here because we had a better idea of how and
what we had to film whilst we were out filming so that we could produce a
music video that tied in with the codes and conventions that we had looked into
such as narratives and relation to audience.
