1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation
stages?
2. BLOGGER
Throughout all my media coursework the most media technology I have used is
Blogger as anything we did involving our media project from the final draft of the video
and all our ancillary products, to the directions we had to take to get to our specific
locations all went up on the blog. I have enjoyed using blogger as it is easy to use, it’s a
good way to hold all your coursework and you can access it from home too.
3. YOUTUBE
• YOUTUBE has also been
significantly important for this
years media coursework. It has
allowed us to research current
music videos that influenced
and inspired us and look for
ideas that we wanted to
incorporate in our own video.
We also could look at specific
artists other videos like behind
the scenes. For example Rita
Ora’s ‘under the influence’
allowed us to notice that we
filmed on the same street she
did and this was significant as at
the start of our project we
selected her to be one of our
relatable artist to our own.
Youtube also helped film one of
our scenes in our music video.
We searched in strobe lighting
and projecting it on our artist
face from the projector.
4. FINAL CUT
• Final cut has been one of the most important media technologies I have used during this
coursework. Without final cut, there wouldn’t be a interesting and exciting music video. As
this years task was to create a music video and we decided on our genre and theme of the
video we instantly knew we could take advantage of final cut and its features. In contrast to
last years editing, this year we used base tracks. Base tracks helped us edit more effectively
because we could pick and choose what bits we wanted from each scene and what was
appropriate for the current lyrics of the song. This gave us more variety and more choice
during editing. Another feature we used a lot in final cut was colour correction. As our song
was all about bright lights/colours etc I think this is the feature my group used most. Colour
correction made the image look brighter and more vibrant and as it’s a music video, more fun
to watch which a music video should be. We also played around with this and created some
of the images pink/blue/red etc to make our video different and playful. We also used slow
motion in our piece matching where the lyrics were slow to coordinate our video to the song
and make it more effective.
5. PHOTOSHOP
• PHOTOSHOP was very important when it came down to my ancillary work.
I created my digipak and advertisement on Photoshop making use of all its
features. Photoshop was new to me as I had never really used it before
but was easy to pick up and was enjoyable to use. The main features I
used on Photoshop were cropping, magic wand and the effects. As our
photos we wanted to use for Photoshop were taking in front of a green
background, the magic wand tool allowed to me cut all the green out and
have my own background. I like the effects Photoshop had to offer as
some of them really went well with the theme I was trying to portray and
made it look professional. The below images are the ancillary products I
produced on Photoshop.
6. STILL CAMERAS,MP3 PLAYERS
• MP3 players came in handy when we were filming. By playing our chosen
song on the mp3 player whilst filming it allowed the artist to remember
the words and exaggerate them. This helped when it came to editing as it
was easier to sync the actual song to what the artist was singing. We
frequently used still images also when filming or just out and about and
you see something that is relevant to your work, we could take a picture of
it and put it up on the blog easily. We also used still cameras when taking
pictures of the artist to feature on the digipak and advertisement. We also
have used flip cameras recording other students evaluating our rough cut
which is on the blog.
7. ANIMATIC TO REAL MUSIC VIDEO
• Doing our animatic, it really helped us see what kind of shots we wanted in our
music video and what we wanted the shots to consist of and what they will be
filmed infront/behind. Below are a few examples of how we did this.
