UHPC presentation featuring select international Ductal projects. This is an in depth look at the types of architectural projects UHPC is best suited for.
Concrete is the most widely used construction material in India with annual consumption exceeding 100 million cubic meters.
High performance concrete is a concrete in which certain characteristics are developed for a particular application and environment, so that it will give excellent performance in the structure in which it will be placed.
A high-strength concrete is always a high performance concrete, but a high-performance concrete is not always a high-strength concrete.

Shotcrete normally has a greater compressive strength then cast in place concrete due to lower water to cement ratio.
The guniting is the most effective process of repairing concrete work which has been damaged due to inferior work or other reasons. It is also used for providing an impervious layer.
Retrofitting is the seismic strengthening of existing damaged or undamaged structures.
Retrofitting a building involves changing its systems or structure after its initial construction and occupation. This work can improve amenities for the building's occupants and improve the performance of the building

Development of mix design for high strength Concrete with AdmixturesIOSR Journals
This paper presents the result of mix design developed for high strength concrete with silica fume
and High range water reducing admixture (HRWR). It involves the process of determining experimentally the
most suitable concrete mixes in order to achieve the targeted mean strength. In this research work 53 grade
ordinary Portland cement, the locally available river sand, 10 mm graded coarse aggregate were selected based
on ASTM C 127 standard for determining the relative quantities and proportions for the grade of concrete M60.
For this design ACI 211.4R-93 guidelines were followed. Totally Five mixes were designed one mix was treated
as basic mix with HRWR - 0.5% without silica fume, Four mixes were designed with Micro silica quantities
varied from 5 to 9 percent weight of cementitious materials and HRWR varies between 0.6% to 0.9% with
increment of 0.1% . Each mix 2 numbers of 150mm x 300 mm cylinders were cast then kept in curing tank after
24 hours of time period. After 28 days of curing the specimens were tested and the appropriate mix proportions
were obtained.

Victoria House is a Refuge Centre for survivors of domestic abuse, which combined the co-living typology with user specific functions including therapy rooms and prayer spaces. Inspired by the widespread increase of reported abuse across all demographics, this design centres itself on inclusivity in order to serve all potential refugees from the Nottingham City Centre and Sneinton areas. The floor plan divides residential spaces from those accessible to the public for outreach programmes and therapy. All rooms are orientated towards green spaces through the inclusion of several courtyards. Pairing this together with subtle nods to the areas rich Victorian Architecture connects the displaced user to their new home.
Completed as part of my Undergratuate degree in Architecture at the University of Nottingham, UK (2021).

The CICABLOC® system is designed to be used in place of traditional formwork. It consists of assembling formwork blocks with staggered vertical joints. To assemble, the blocks are simply unfolded and interlocked on the spot. The whole structure is then filled with concrete and set.

Between Filth and Fortune- Urban Cattle Foraging Realities by Devi S Nair, An...Mansi Shah
This study examines cattle rearing in urban and rural settings, focusing on milk production and consumption. By exploring a case in Ahmedabad, it highlights the challenges and processes in dairy farming across different environments, emphasising the need for sustainable practices and the essential role of milk in daily consumption.
You could be a professional graphic designer and still make mistakes. There is always the possibility of human error. On the other hand if you’re not a designer, the chances of making some common graphic design mistakes are even higher. Because you don’t know what you don’t know. That’s where this blog comes in. To make your job easier and help you create better designs, we have put together a list of common graphic design mistakes that you need to avoid.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Located in downtown Miami, in the center of Museum Park and surrounded by a 12 hectare greenspace, the new Pérez Art
Museum Miami (PAMM) is a striking facility complete with public gardens, terraces and sculptures. Designed by architects
Herzog & de Meuron, it combines concrete and glass with elegance; a unique architectural creation in which to showcase works
of art as well as provide educational activities, relaxation and dining.
The museum overlooks Biscayne Bay, where frequent tropical storms and exposure to the salt/sea air can cause serious
problems for buildings in the area.
Ductal®, our ultra-high performance concrete, to meet the challenge
To meet the aesthetic and resilience requirements for this project, our ultra-high performance concrete, Ductal® was
chosen to produce approximately 100 long-span, precast vertical mullions to blend with the structure's cast-in-place
elements and support the large curtain wall glazing which surrounds the building. To minimize view obstructions, the mullions are
tall (up to 4.9 m), thin and sinuous. Overall, the structure is:
• discreet; harmoniously integrated into the surrounding environment.
• resilient and sustainable; the UHPC mullions provide superior resistance to hurricane force winds, impact, abrasion and
salt/sea air.

Conceived as a panelized system, the frame
is made of two forms of Ductal. Digital
modeling and CNC milling at Georgia Tech
created undulating flexible molds in which the
concrete was set. Triple glazing reduces
acoustic transmission while providing high
thermal performance, natural day lighting,
and transparency. The glazing, designed as
replaceable, repairable panels, is installed
directly into the concrete frame. Within
spandrel cassette panels, non-freezing
liquids flow and capture solar energy that is
transmitted for use as radiant heat, domestic
hot water production, and dehumidification of
ventilation systems. The heat recovery
systems are optimized to function in both
winter and summer. Thermal performance is
considered exceptional for this unified curtain
wall system due to the elimination of metal
units bridging the exterior and interior.

Working in their 12,000-square-foot, pre-World War
II manufacturing facility, the Concreteworks team
created metal formwork for the banquette’s dark
gray Ductal elements; the at 5-by-5-by-5- foot
pieces are formed with a seat on either side of a
parabolic backrest. The entire cast form is only one
inch thick. A special form with one seat and one flat
side was made for the end of the seating row, and
the curling base of each banquette is also cast from
a separate mold. A three-piece host stand topped
with two-inch reclaimed oak mirrors the seats, which
are topped with slender, curving pieces of oak for
comfort. Like the restaurant’s reclaimed elements
and locally fabricated materials, Ductal will help the
project achieve LEED Platinum certification
because it requires fewer raw materials and limits
fabrication waste.
