3. i) Prior period of industrial revolution:
a. There were no manufacturing industries only hand crafts,
craftsman, the spinner ,weaver and potter, cobblers who
were producing goods in their houses.
b. Latter half of 18th Century:- invention of spinning jenny in
1770, Art Wright's water frame in 1969, Crompton's Mule
1779, kelley’s self acting mule in 1792.
Development of iron industry in 1786 by inventing of
smelting by pit-coal and application of steam engine to
blast furnaces.
Development of transport- canals, railways, roads made
easy.
With the start of 1st Cotton Textile industry in 1780, factory
system became modern industry and improvement in
production system continued.
4. ii) Significance of the study
Industrial Development of Solapur district
through three MIDCs at- Akkalkot Road, Chincholi and Kondi
areas with study of different industries' SWOT analysis.
Present position of SSI, trading businesses and other activities in
all Taluka places.
Role of Muslim Entrepreneurs - in scrap, leather, construction,
trading, fruit market, Juice centers etc. Their role in Industrial
and Economic growth of Solapur District.
Scope for Muslim Entrepreneurs – in industry, service sector,
construction and so on when managed businesses with modern
concept, Govt. support, training and development to them.
Prominent Position of Muslim entrepreneurs in special businesses
like leather, trading, manufacturing, services etc.
5. iii) Review of Literature
Basic concept of entrepreneurship –
“If self help is the best help then self employment is the best
employment.”
Dr. Mahesh Kulkarni ( 2009) –
In “Entrepreneurship development and project management” –
has emphasized the importance to entrepreneurial development of a
country by achieving industrial development, territorial balances and
creation of employment.
Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar –
In science conference at Pune had given 5 principles –
Child centric education,
Woman centric family,
New creation centric India
Knowledge centric society
Human centric development.

9. Evolution of concept – ‘Entrepreneurs’
The word Entrepreneur is derived from “Entreprendre” i.e
Organizer of musical entertainment.
In 16th century, used for Army leader.
In 17th century, extended to cover engineering activities such
as construction.
In 18th century, Richard Cantillon , an French Economist
applied ‘entrepreneur’ to business activities.
entrepreneur is an agent producing goods by combining
factors of production and selling the same at uncertain prices
in future.
P. H. Knight- Entrepreneur bears uncertainly and risk in
doing business activities.
J.B Say - Entrepreneur is an organizer- combines land of one,
labor of another and capital of yet another and produces a
product and sale to get profit.
