This document summarizes a study that developed a simple model to predict pore pressure from shear wave velocity analysis. The study obtained well log data from the Niger Delta and analyzed pore pressure using petrophysical parameters and shear wave velocity estimation. The results showed that well logs and shear wave velocity are important for evaluating pore pressure and indicating where pressure may be encountered during drilling. Shear wave velocity increases with effective pressure and depth, and can thus be used to predict pore pressure since pore pressure affects effective pressure. The study developed models based on existing equations to relate shear wave velocity to pore pressure.
