In the current railway systems, it is becoming ever more necessary to have safety
elements in order to avoid accidents. One of the important causes that can provoke serious accidents
is the existence of obstacles on the tracks, either fixed or mobile. This project deals about one of the
efficient methods to avoid train collision and obstacle detection. A GPS system is being used to
pinpoint the location of faults on tracks. The project presents a solution, to provide an intelligent
train tracking and management system to improve the existing railway transport service. The solution
is based on powerful combination of mobile computing, Global System for Mobile Communication
(GSM), Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies and software. The inbuilt GPS module
identifies the train location with a highest accuracy and transfers the information to the central
system. The availability of the information allows the train Controller to take accurate decisions as
for the train location. Positioning data along with train speed helps the central system to identify the
possible safety issues and react to them effectively using the communication methods provided by
the system.

From, where the GPS does not give continuous localization in environments where signal blockages are
present, Inertial Navigation System comes into action. Because of sensors present in INS and time
integration process, errors get accumulated over time. Henceforth, an aiding system is integrated with INS.
The aim of this paper is to model VMS and RADAR and aid it with INS in order to overcome its errors. VMS
is aided to INS to achieve acceptable accuracy and ease of implementation, much needed in civilian
navigation. Different trajectories are generated to offer solutions in a practical scenario. Whereas, for
highly accurate positioning in military navigation a reliable aiding system, Radar has been opted. The
Kalman filter is designed and modeled as the integrating element in INS/RADAR, to provide an optimal
estimate of navigation solutions. An error analysis has been done for both INS aided VMS and INS aided
Radar systems. The navigation performance of VMS and Radar aiding system is compared and their merits
have been brought out. We besides give the readers a more honest insight of the demand for an aiding
system in different environments based on various simulation results

The road surface condition information is very useful for the safety of road users and to inform road administrators
for conducting appropriate maintenance. Roughness features of road surface; such as speed bumps and potholes, have bad effects on road users and their vehicles. Usually speed bumps are used to slow motor-vehicle traffic in specific areas in order to increase
safety conditions. On the other hand driving over speed bumps at high speeds could cause accidents or be the reason for spinal injury. Therefore informing road users of the position of speed bumps through their journey on the road especially at night or when lighting is poor would be a valuable feature. This paper exploits a mobile sensor computing framework to monitor and assess road surface conditions. The framework measures the changes in the gravity orientation through a gyroscope and the shifts in the accelerator's indications, both as an assessment
for the existence of speed bumps. The proposed classification approach used the theory of rough mereology to rank the modified data in order to make a useful recommendation to road users.

Image sequences recorded with cameras mounted in a moving vehicle provide information
about the vehicle’s environment which has to be analysed in order to really support the driver
in actual traffic situations. One type of information is the lane structure surrounding the vehicle.
Therefore, driver assistance functions which make explicit use of the lane structure represented
by lane borders and lane markings is to be analysed. Lane analysis is performed on the road
region to remove road pixels. Only lane markings are the interests for the lane detection
process. Once the lane boundaries are located, the possible edge pixels are scanned to
continuously obtain the lane model. The developed system can reduce the complexity of vision
data processing and meet the real time requirements.

Optimized Traffic Signal Control System at Traffic Intersections Using VanetIOSR Journals
Abstract: Traditional Automated traffic signal control systems normally schedule the vehicles at intersection in
a pre timed slot manner. This pre-timed controller approach fails to minimize the waiting time of vehicles at the
traffic intersection as it doesn’t consider the arrival time of vehicles. To overcome this problem an adaptive and
intelligent traffic control system is proposed in such a way that a traffic signal controller with wireless radio
installed at the intersection and it is considered as an infrastructure. All the vehicles are equipped with onboard
location, speed sensors and a wireless radio to communicate with the infrastructure thereby VANET is formed.
Once the vehicles enter into the boundary of traffic area, they broadcast their positional information as data
packet with their encapsulated ID in it. The controller at the intersection receives the transmitted packets from
all the legs of intersection and then stores it in a temporary log file. Now the controller runs Platooning
algorithm to group the vehicles approximately in equal size of platoons. The platoons are formed on the basis of
data disseminated by the vehicles. Then the controller runs Oldest Job First algorithm which treats platoons as
jobs. The algorithm schedules jobs in conflict free manner and ensures all the jobs utilize equal processing time
i.e the vehicles of each platoons cross the intersection at equal delays. The proposed approach is evaluated
under various traffic volumes and the performance is analyzed.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be

Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

1. A RUNTIME INTEGRITY MONITORING FRAMEWORK FOR REAL-TIME
RELATIVE POSITIONING SYSTEMS BASED ON GPS AND DSRC
ABSTRACT
This paper provides a three-layered framework to monitor the positioning performance
requirements of real-time relative positioning (RRP) systems of the Cooperative Intelligent
Transport Systems that support cooperative collision warning (CCW) applications. These
applications exploit state data of surrounding vehicles obtained solely from the Global
Positioning System (GPS) and dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) units without
using other sensors. To this end, this paper argues the need for the GPS/DSRC-based RRP
systems to have an autonomous monitoring mechanism, since the operation of CCW applications
is meant to augment safety on roads. The advantages of autonomous integrity monitoring are
essential and integral to any safety-of-life system. The autonomous integrity monitoring
framework proposed necessitates the RRP systems to detect/predict the unavailability of their
subsystems and of the integrity monitoring module itself and, if available, to account for effects
of data link delays and breakages of DSRC links, as well as of faulty measurement sources of
GPS and/or integrated augmentation positioning systems, before the information used for safety
warnings/alarms becomes unavailable, unreliable, inaccurate, or misleading. Hence, a monitoring
framework using a tight integration and correlation approach is proposed for instantaneous
reliability assessment of the RRP systems. Ultimately, using the proposed framework, the RRP
systems will provide timely alerts to users when the RRP solutions cannot be trusted or used for
the intended operation.
