This document reviews image compression techniques using halftoning based block truncation coding (BTC), focusing on algorithms such as ordered dither, error diffusion, and dot diffusion BTC. It discusses the limitations of traditional BTC, including false contours and blocking effects, and evaluates the performance of various methods using metrics like PSNR, MSE, and SSIM. The study concludes that dot diffused BTC offers superior visual quality compared to the other methods tested.
