Ecology and Environment in World Lake Conference 2007
Natural Resources like sea water, estuaries, rivers which are the habitats of aquatic species have to be reserved because their protection and conservation would help to retain the diversity of species as well as to have filling up of the wetlands, Annicuts, lakes and ponds (Fig. 5).
Before independence the water from this lake was hardly used for any purpose and the lake remained more or less full throughout the year. The water of this lake was so clean those days that most British Officers used its water for drinking purposes. All the three islands were full of vegetation and hundreds of aquatic birds and waders used them for their nests.
The lake was also ideal for migratory birds and several types of migratory birds wintered in this lake. The human interference was restricted to bathing and washing of clothes and that too, in a limited number as the population was practically confined inside the walled city and there were two more lakes nearer to the city other than Fatehsagar. It was most balanced and a perfect wetland those days.
Though the fisheries department periodically stock the lake with fingerlings of exotic, commercially viable fishes of three or four types only, the other fishes, specially cat fishes, are now on the threshold of extinction in the lake, the demand for water also increased. The water works department started pumping water from the lake which resulted into constant and major fluctuation of water level in the lake. Several permanent marshy places with reeds and other types of aquatic flora and fauna are now no more in the lake.
The oil spillage from these boats, is affecting the aquatic fauna and smoke is polluting air. Several Khomachawaqla's outside the lake and a restaurant inside the lake throw garbage into the lake. About two years back the author calculated the quantity of garbage.
Due to constant disturbances all around the lake by automobiles and in the lake by boats and lack of aquatic vegetation, the lake is becoming less inhospitable for a variety of migratory birds. Grey legged Goose, Bareheaded Goose, Demoisal Crane, Brahminy Ducks and Teals etc which were the most common sight in the winter are no more seen in the lake. Some of the damage done to this wetland is irreversible but still we can rectify some of our gross mistakes and for this we have to take some drastic steps to save this wetland otherwise in due course of time this lake will be converted into a semi-sewerage pond.

However, case studies showed that with family support, training, and encouragement some women were able to start small businesses and improve their living standards. The study concluded that if women receive recognition and support to develop their skills, they could significantly contribute to India's GDP through entrepreneurship.
This document discusses teaching English as a second language to different generations in various cultural contexts using technology. It describes how socio-cultural perspectives and globalization impact language education. Generations Y and Z are especially tech-savvy and have short attention spans. The document proposes using web technologies like video conferencing, online tests, and visual activities to engage these students collaboratively. Developing multidisciplinary skills through group work allows students to interact, recall knowledge, and learn English registers in pragmatic ways.
The document discusses the emotions of migration. It summarizes that migration involves moving between places and environments, which causes emotional disruption as migrants experience loss, separation, and a crisis of identity. The discussion covers how Indian migrants experience migration differently than Westerners, seeing it more as an economic activity than an emotional one. Several books that deal with the immigrant experience through narratives of cultural adjustment and displacement are also summarized.
The document discusses a presentation about the book "Inner Line" which is a collection of short stories written by Indian women. It analyzes how the stories depict Indian culture and social norms from a gender perspective. Specifically, it examines how the stories portray the status of women in India, gender roles and constructions, and how women navigate their personal and public lives within societal constraints. One short excerpt is analyzed in more detail looking at themes of family dynamics and gender roles within the household. The conclusion calls for women to gain awareness of their inner capabilities and potential to explore opportunities beyond household affairs in order to overcome social insecurities.
This document outlines classroom activities for a unit on travel vocabulary and reading about travel. It includes having students watch a movie about traveling to India and use maps to learn about different types of Indian maps and routes. Students will also read about essential travel accessories like first aid kits, bags, personal care items, sleeping gear, and cameras. The document provides links to different mapping websites and rubrics for collaboration, movie making, and peer evaluation that will be used for the activities.
The document discusses key concepts related to gender, including the differences between sex and gender. It notes that gender refers to socially constructed roles and behaviors seen as appropriate for men and women in a given society, while sex refers to biological characteristics. It also discusses gender-gap, gender identity, politics of gender, gender policing, gender socialization, and the need for gender sensitization to promote modification of behaviors and raise awareness of gender equality.
This document provides a summary of key concepts from Alfred Korzybski's writings Manhood of Humanity and Science and Sanity. It discusses three main ideas:
1. Korzybski introduced the concept of humans as "time-binders" with the unique ability to analyze differences between humans and animals and transcend the present moment.
2. False ideas and teachings can pollute social ecology by infecting people and limiting their time-binding capacities.
3. When humans become selfish and greedy, prioritizing animal instincts over human nature, it suppresses time-binding ability and harms society.
This document discusses encountering tradition in learners' engagement with English language teaching. It presents conventional and non-conventional pedagogical approaches. The non-conventional approaches incorporate new media, visual learning, and problem-solving skills. The goals are to understand perspectives on language education, relate cultural facts to teaching, and identify interventions to improve practices. Learners' autonomy, engagement with texts and contexts, and reestablishing verbal teaching are emphasized over rote memorization and drilling.
1) The document discusses challenges faced by tribal youth in learning English as a second language (ESL) in college. Tribal youth often come from rural backgrounds and agrarian societies, and struggle to adapt to college expectations.
2) It notes barriers tribal youth face including lack of English proficiency, reliance on Hindi, and differences from urban college culture and teaching methods. Teachers often use the same methods for both urban and rural students without considering their backgrounds.
3) The document proposes some remedies for more effective ESL teaching of tribal youth, such as incorporating their traditions into lessons, using visual aids, open online courses, and emphasis on practical language skills.
The document discusses a study analyzing the role and importance of women in society through the film Ghajini. The objectives of the study are to examine women's significance in socio-cultural development, identify women role models who reduce ill-practices, educate and empower women about their role in society, and analyze women's participation in resolving other women's suffering. The study also aims to generate responsibility among women to curb male domination and discusses how educated women dismantle the old patriarchal order by gaining economic independence and protecting victims.
The document discusses Dalit literature and the story "Poisoned Bread" in particular. It summarizes that the story manifests the self-disintegration, alienation, and fractured consciousness of the Dalit characters. It also discusses how Dalit literature addresses the marginalization of Dalits in Hindu society and their sub-human status, as well as themes of social justice, cultural hegemony, and environmental politics in asserting Dalit political identity and rights.

2. To achieve various economic outcomes, sports
training and learning is an important determinant
because
It sets the provision for manufacturing goods
related to sports and games
It promotes tourism through sports tournaments
and championships
It requires formation of large sports academies,
associations and clubs to organise sports
activities for the public
It enables financial development through skilled
sports trainers to conduct programmes and to
enrich public mindset for sports and games

3. Capital means product and social capital means a
product that can enhance human relationships in
context of the nation and human development.
Involvement of citizens of a country in the sports
and games unifies the public mindset to work for
the nation, worship sports and to live like
comerades
The love for learning sports indulge the citizens
to organise their self and mind to protect the
dignity of their nation and develop self-respect
and self-reliance.
The patronisation of sports activities by a nation
motivates patriotism, nationality, and
belongingness for native and national sports.

4. Mostly the organisations, institutions, associations, clubs are
responsible to organise tournaments of games and sports. If these
bodies reinforce the spirit of sportsmanship among the citizens,
then naturally the small stakeholders like schools, colleges and
families will motivate the participants to learn sports activities.
Generally the sports campaigns are left to be patronised by state
rather by society, due to which society brings out problems of caste
factor, gender discrimination, myths regarding biological
weaknesses among girls to play outdoor games etc., that most of
the times discourage state sports boards to implement their policies
effectively
The public-private partnership at grassroot level has to boost
morale of people by taking up community development activities
and services from the point of sports participation and development

5. Indian society which is diversified on account of
regional and religious disparities, need the back of
public-private sector stakeholders to jointly
arrange the funds, infrastructure and other sources
to compete with other groups. Then state can look
into the sports activities with much stronger
support with the help of Self-Help groups. This can
be an intervention to eliminate caste and gender
factor from the society and state groups.
Such organised sports welfare activities can improve
the internal assessment performance and increase
accountability of the public-private interdisciplinary
organisations to help in building social capital and
pursuing economic growth

6. Although there is scarcity of fund and lack of
infrastructure and moral support in India, yet citizens need
to be waken up to motivate the government institutions to
reach to rural- remote areas for sports facilities and
organising of games and linking them to national sports
activities.
It is the private organisations and industrial units that can
assign task to their department of physical education to
voluntary take up such areas where they can do workshops
on nutrition, fitness and participation in sports.
The public sector units need to enliven their sick units by
joining in the mission to collect as much as participants
for sports training, knowledge and to pursue the state
constituencies to allocate funds for sports fitness,
nutrition and maximum enrolment of gender participation

7. Generally the patriarchal, heirarchical
societies interfere and interrupt to get the
maximum gender-participation
False data is submitted to sports boards by
committees regarding such programmes
There is irregularity of the trained sports
personnel to impart proper sports’ skills to
local people
There is unavailability of Sports Officers and
personnel as regards to right to information
and development for sports related activities.

8. Indeed there are now in some districts of each state
Physical Education Colleges and Departments of
Physical Education in the Regular Degree Government
and Private colleges, but these are not well-organised
and equipped to strictly manage the sports discipline,
fitness and nutrition.
They lack one or the other factor. All training starts
and ends with good nutrition and discipline, but both
are ignored because the public-private organisations
do not take interest in sports welfare activities.
These units lag behind in their services to provide
healthy sport-persons due to their internal
bureaucratic and hierarchical degradation. The
corrupt-ridden system blames society while
diversified society reproach these organisations.

9. Mostly in government and private schools, the emphasis on
sports is focused from the point of regular physical education
period, yoga classes, regular games period, which indeed
releases students from the confines of classrooms but it falls
them into another compulsion to stretch their limbs for the
sake of attendance and grades in their mark sheets.
The utility of sports in the common life is mechanised rather
it is a habit. The reason is the policy makers who decide
school curriculum do know the importance of physical
exercise but they neglect the regularity of sports in life.
Policy-makers avoid to provide any safety, security, regular
practice of the outdoor and indoor sports and games
activities, so in a way they produce a product that passes in
exams but fails as a product of Sports in the economic
growth of a nation.

Dr. Jayshree Singh, PPT in 2011,

10. Mostly colleges and universities promote sports and
games not as an activity of passion, knowledge and
purpose; rather it is preferred an activity to add credit
to college interventions to boost their image among
other colleges/universities, therefore the loyalty to
nation is restricted merely by the students
participation at college level.
The participants for national sports and games are
indeed given lot of promotion, but their importance
and safety is likely to be relied or taken care of on
their performance and calibre rather on their
competence to continue with their passion to
participate and practice for national games and
sports.

11. Just as Government look after its plebiscite
process through regular campaigning and
promotion, similarly government has to regulate
the private-public system to regularise sports
training; it is as important as food and air to
body.
Government sports bodies need to delegate the
local bodies with more facilities and role to
enhance high quality performance. The state and
the society have to generate revenue through
tournaments so that quality of social capital may
be away from all kinds of discrimination and
injustice.

12. In academic institutions there are sports offices, officers
and organisers to hold some minor level activities within
college, intra-college, inter-university level. These cells of
Board need to recharge with fresh strategies and plans for
mapping their sports enterprise resources
They need to seek placements and selections in the social
units, industries, institutions so that they may channelize
the board programmes from the places where these sports
enterprise and resources are recruited or located
There must be some sort of integration of sports and
economy perspective to channelize the network for sports
growth from every nook and corner of the nation,
wherever the sportspersons are employed, settled or in
business.

13. Government till date have been thoughtful how to have
effective utility of human resource and human capital in
skilled and unskilled jobs whether in India or outside India.
Government has not been vigilant that if the common
human resource will not be stimulated to understand the
significance of being a social capital, then how there can
be human capital out of social capital.
The society forms the social capital and the management
of the state and society reproduce human capital.
Therefore social capital has to be an important unit of
economic growth, in which sports training and learning
contribute a lot.

14. The more the organisations, clubs, public-private
partners associate with sports development
activities their will be more capital income
besides return of assets in the form of social
capital and human capital.
The improvement in infrastructure, sports
facilities and goods is an opportunity and
development matrix to ensure marketing,
publicity, promotion, staffing, organising,
reporting and managing sports- tournaments,
leagues, championships and campaigns.

15. Just like battlefield in wars, the playfields in
sports need self-motivation, action-plan,
strategies, equipments, casual and sports
uniforms, banners, stadiums, playgrounds,
publicity technology, promotion networking
enterprise, other hard wares and infrastructure to
compete with the opposite party. When the
budget is managed to win the field in one’s
favour, naturally the training, diet, fitness and
discipline which are the necessary inputs to
utilise the cost of the expenditure, would also
ensure the better productive output. Investment
in sports is unavoidably a return of asset for
nation, for world and for humanity.

16. Whenever a city, district, state , nation or and International
country plans a sports activity/conference or tournament,
naturally it involves all citizens’ interest, hobby, time,
precious space, passions and economy. When the citizens
completely indulge themselves, then they are not mere
citizens, they are social capital who integrate their
individual selves for community and collective
consciousness. This very factor makes them hospitable,
aspiring and above all discriminations. They coordinate
short excursions and tours/travel programmes to extend
their hospitality to delegates. In this way the host and the
guests both as sports personnel participate in encouraging
tourism besides increasing spectators, skilled trainers,
usherettes and other networking entrepreneurs.
Secondly the medical amenities for sports related activities
set another area of economy

17. When national sentiments of any category of citizens are
combined with sports, it indeed improves social status of
its citizens because they all involve themselves in the
promotion and marketing of sports and games, they forget
to which class, sex, creed or religion they belong.
They seek information, justice, dignity, right to participate,
equal opportunity to work and development if sports is
seen as one of the very significant variable of economic
growth and human development. The developing country
India like other developed nations need to bring shift by
setting sports-economics correlations.
It would definitely remove casteism and gender differences
because sports in itself is a big industry that can market
and produce both social capital and human capital at the
same time.

18. It is apt to quote in this context – “It is
your game, your team and your cup”.
Learning and participation in sports
need to be understood professionally,
scientifically, economically, socially
and culturally. One’s victory depends
upon the way one understands and
promotes sports in one’s life and for
others.
