This article proposes a new classification system for wound dressings called the Amit Jain classification. It divides dressings into 3 classes based on complexity: Class 1 are simple dressings like hydrogels and foams; Class 2 are more complex like collagen-based and growth factor dressings; Class 3 are the most complicated like skin substitutes. The classification aims to help practitioners easily understand dressing types and choose appropriate ones based on wound characteristics and cost. Over 500 dressings exist but only a small portion are commonly used, so this classification simplifies the options into categories to aid clinical decision making.
