Presentation for Mile High PMI Workshop on April 11, 2009
Abstract:
This workshop will focus on the concept of leadership in organizations which use an agile development process. When people speak about agile it is common to hear terms like “no command and control,” “there is no one particular person in charge,” and “managers support rather than manage.” In this type of environment, where is there room for “leadership?” The workshop will look at leadership from several different perspectives and examine whether or not leadership is necessary. If it is necessary for leadership, where does it come from and how is it manifested? For project managers a thorough understanding of the realities of agile leadership is not a nicety, it is a necessity for success with agile projects. The workshop will consist of approximately equal parts presentation and hands on exercises.
To help teams be more self-organizing. What are indicators/traits of an Agile self-organizing team? Provide coaching tips to help promote, develop, and monitor self-organizing teams. The underlying concept is how self-organizing teams are more productive.
Leadership Development Training: The Forgotten Aspect of Succession Planning
"Leadership is one of the most observed and least understood phenomena on earth." – James MacGregor Burns
Most organizations understand the value of succession planning, but very few have developed their future leaders. In a recent survey, 86 percent of the respondents agreed their organizations' future depended on the effectiveness of the future leadership. Yet a study found almost 75 percent of respondents felt their leadership development programs were not very effective. Today, many people have the capabilities of being a follower or a leader, depending upon the situation they are put in and the skills they are provided. In fact, Barnes and Krieger, in their seminal work, The Hidden Side of Organizational Leadership, suggested that leadership is more of a reflection of an organization rather than a person.
"If you cannot verbalise a problem, then you do not have a problem yet." It's another learning 3.0 tool to help the problem discovering and the problem solving.

Wanted: a leader who can take risks but keep expenses under budget; be emotionally supportive to colleagues but maintain professional boundaries; and come up with creative new ideas but stay true to the organizational vision.
Sound familiar? Over the past 40 years, organizations’ expectations for leaders have expanded dramatically. While the list of ideal leadership qualities continues to grow, very few organizations pause to examine whether it’s reasonable – or even possible – for one individual to bring such a breadth of skills to the job. To meet the demands of an increasingly complex business environment, HR leaders are left with a near-impossible task: develop super-human leaders who can do it all.
The latest research illustrates just how complex leadership has become, and how few leaders possess the skills to single-handedly master both relationships and results. When organizations ask for leaders who can do it all, they all but ensure there will be leadership gaps, and they run the risk of burning out their top talent. The solution? Develop a culture of shared leadership.

Do you know where you should be investing your valuable time and budget to get better team performance? Team leaders and their teams feel the pressure every day to continuously improve team performance. A leader may be a great communicator, but what good does that do if the team doesn’t communicate well with each other? Bottom line - a leader’s performance is measured by their team’s results.
Join Churchill as we uncover how to transform your team into a high-performing, sustainable and inspired team system. Learn how to make a mindset shift from leading individual performers to leading your team as a whole system. Churchill’s systems approach recognizes that a team is more than the sum of its parts. Our simple process leverages the most fundamental wisdom of leadership: what gets measured gets results. Our methodologies are based on Emotional Intelligence, Appreciative Inquiry, Positive Psychology, change management, and team research conducted at leading universities.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix

involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
