Similarities Between The American Federation Of Labour And...
Erin Marie Magee
The Knights of Labor and the American Federation of Labor were similar in a lot of ways,
however the latter succeeded and the prior did not. These were both union organizations. They
consisted of employees bound together for common goals. Some of these goals consisted of:
eight hour work day, abolition of child labor, equal pay for equal work and income tax reforms.
However, there are some major differences. One difference is that the Knights of Labor accepted
men, women, white, black, skilled, and unskilled workers as members. The American Federation of
Labor however, only accepted skilled workers and required much higher dues. One reason for the
American Federation of Labor requiring higher dues was to sustain the member

The Cold Deep Sea
Cold water corals form reef structures in the cold deep sea are often defined as self sustaining
biogenic reef frameworks and can be found in any ocean around the world at different depths
(Roberts, 2005; Davies and Guinotte, 2011). Reefs are patchy distributed on the sea floor and
can develop forming impressive solid structures. These can fairly extend forming complex deep
sea habitats and shaping niches for many different marine species. These frameworks constitute
thus a very specific ecosystem, offering different types of habitats (Buhl Mortensen et al., 1995;
Freiwald et al., 2004; Buhl Mortensen et al., 2010) to different marine organisms. These reefs are
thus important hotspots of biodiversity (Roberts et al., 2006) and have a key role in the carbon
cycle in the deep sea (Roberts et al., 2006; Thiem et al., 2006).
In the North East Atlantic, Lophelia pertusa, a scleractinian cold water coral, is the dominating reef
forming species. Several symbiotic relations (among 1300 species; Roberts et al, 2006) have been
observed in different studies (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl Mortensen, 2004; Roberts, 2005) between
scleractinian cold water corals and different invertebrate organisms. However, the degree of these
relationships is still not enough defined and poorly understood (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl
Mortensen, 2004; Roberts et al., 2009). An example was reported by Roberts (2005) who
described a symbiotic relationship between the cold water coral, Lophelia pertusa, and the

Strong Work Ethic
Throughout my educational career I have learned the importance of a strong work ethic. In
middle school I was able to accomplish all of my school work, take advanced classes, maintain
grades above a C average, and take part in after school activities without much effort. High School
on the other hand, forced me to mature and develop a work ethic to succeed as a student.
Maintaining, the same GPA, I balance acting and directing for my school s theater company,
volunteering as a part of the National Honor Society, being involved in International Club and
Student Council, working part time at my local library, and excelling in Advanced Placement
classes. With so many obligations, sound time management skills are a necessity. Since I learned to
succeed with a multitude of responsibilities that once seemed overbearing, I am seeking to
challenge myself through an educationat Indiana University with a clear and organized approach....

Essay about Good Man Hard to Find
Good Man Hard to Find O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find
In A Good Man Is hard to Find, Flannery O Conner really puts the reader in the middle class
mode and throws a little religion at us. By this I mean that she takes us to an important part of her
mind and soul. One could even say that she lets the Devil come out in her own little way.
In reading A Good Man is Hard to Find, we find ourselves in a setting of a lower middle class family
with a dominant mother, annoying grandmother and a whinny mother in law. I tend to believe that
she is to be the main character. The grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity.
However just from this one story I get the feeling that she could be telling of ... Show more content

OConner was trying to put the question of Religion to the reader. What has happened to the
World ? It had become complicated. Here you have a dear old lady just trying to get her only
son to take her where she wants to go. Consider the Christian idea of evil as opposed to a divine
nation of the good. The characters usually are acting from right intentions, but they end up
attempting to inflict their ideas of what is good on those who don t agree them, those not so
fortunate. She shows us how violent the recipients of this good can become and how they resist it
and react to it , Religion that is. Who was the momentary messiah, the on the spot Jesus the Judas
mother giving up her son in hopes that she might live? These are questions I thought O Connor
was asking in A Good Man is Hard to Find.
Grandma, I believe it is all her making and doing. She brought the family to the situation. She
provoked the Killer. The killer s statements about his life especially his own father reflects he too
was subject to religious questions. and the fact that the lifestyles of the southern whites were
descending is evidence of society s demise is blended into the story, and presented through an
interesting generation gap.
The gap to me is between the son, mother, kids and killer. The Son was a whimp and a momma s
boy I could sense that from the start. The Son pays little

Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere
Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these
pieces hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of
these concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or
expression. One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of
humiliation. The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of
the Cart and Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame
that is felt by Lancelot and Guineverebut in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be
compared to the tale Sir Gawainin the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be
learned, rather than a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to
shape both the characters and stories in their own way.
In ChrГ©tien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is
hesitating after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. ChrГ©tien de
Troyes writes: At that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for
the knight, who hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of
hesitation and be accused and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But
Reason, who does not follow Love s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and
counseled him not to do anything for which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter
what decision Lancelot would have made, he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have
no hesitated, he would have been shamed by the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart
despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere would have pressured Lancelot into shame for
hesitation or not riding the cart in general.
After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s
adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the
dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. Guinevere replies to Lancelot s question of
displeasement with this:

The Schlieffen Pl A Two Front War
The Schlieffen Plan was under the guidance of General Alfred Von Schlieffen. This plan called
for a two front war between France and Russia. A Two Front War is when a war takes place on
two geographically separate fronts. France and Russia had formed an alliance in 1894. It was an
operational plan for a designated attack on France. Once Russia started to mobilize her forces near
the German border. When this plan was executed it led to Britain declaring war on Germany on
August 4th, 1914. By this year, Europe had successfully divided into camps. Germany, Austria

Raising A Minimum Wage
A 2015 CBS/New York Times survey found that 71 percent of Americans favored an increase to
the minimum wage. (Doyle, pg 2). What if I tell you that raising a minimum wage is not a good
idea for our society? Would you believe that increasing a minimum hourly rate might cause more
harm than good in a long run? What if setting a high minimal wagewill actually kill many jobs and
increase unemployment? Did you think that this raising minimum wagegames are the never ending

people s life?
A lot of politicians, to be perceived as caring, concerned and compassionate, love to talk about
raising a minimum wage. And immediately majority of poor people see the politicians as heroes
who stood up to protect them from greedy employers. Now people perceive the issue with the
minimum wage as a war between employees and employers. This is happening because not too
many people know what raising a minimum wage actually means, what are the long and short time
effects, who is going to be effected and how, what will happen to prices and standards of living,
where the money will come from, what will happened to unemployment and inflation rate. People
seem do not understand that everything comes with a cost.
Whether to raising a minimum wage, is well argued question between businessmen s, economists,
and politicians. As the issue is very complicated and complex, as it depends on different

The Story Of The Wolf
A wolf walked out of the alpha s den and to the nervous crowd, sadly shook his head, No, he said,
Our beloved alpha is gone, gone to walk with the spirits. Silence filled the wolf pack s camp.
Beta Shattered Ice, the second in command, stood in front of the crowd. Dipping her head, she
said, Our alpha was old, but he was a wise leader. He expanded our territory to where no wolf
thought possible. May his spirit have eternal peace. Her gaze scanned the pack and happily
changed the subject. Now, the time has come for a new alpha to rise upon our pack.

The Earth below the clouds was in its daily nighttime. The spirit wolf pack always continued sleep,

Comparing Bartleby, The Scrivener And The Overcoat
In both Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Nikolai Gogol s The Overcoat, the reader
is given insight about the different workings society has on two copyists. Both, Akaky and
Bartleby make a living off copying papers, and can be considered as the heros of their stories.
Though, both of their mannerisms are out of place and foolish in their given society; the authors
display different settings, character arcs, and motivations to showcase the slow burn psychological
and physical effects society has on the protagonist. Even though Bartleby s passive nature in a
capitalist dominant economy leads him to his death, Akaky stumbling upon materialism in a

Similarly to Bartleby, in The Overcoat, Akaky Akakievich is a copyist who went about his work
mindlessly. Gogol depicts Akaky as an outlier among his peers, and deemed to be the only clerk
who served his job with love (313). The author portrays Akaky as an aloof fellow, who has no
idea about his surrounding for he is always focused on his writings (Gogol 313). When the
Russian s worst enemy, winter, arrives; his overcoat is too old and broken down to protect him
from the cold weather. His current overcoat is ridiculed and mockingly called a peignoir by his
fellow clerks (Gogol 315). The arc shifts when his tailor, Petrovich, makes him a new overcoat

how Akaky viewed himself, and how his peers view him. However, he is robbed of his coat on
the way home from his Chief Assistant Clerk s party (Gogol 323). In the latter part of his
character arc, he valued the search of his overcoat more than his livelihood. He decides to search

We Must Make Real Organic Goods
In today s fast moving world it is difficult to keep up with nutrition with early wake up calls and
late night shifts at work. It is really hard to fit a nice healthy meal in between, and finally, when
we get home, we come to the fridge, only to find sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and yummy
scrumptious fat in the fridge. There is nothing like comfort food right? Well, in the U.S their
thousands of organic food stores calming to have better and healthy vegetables, products and
medicine that will detoxify you. However, farmers globally make up only one percent of organic
agricultural land, although with more practices being done in the U.S the percentage globally
would go from one to one point seven percent if you counted all the organic farmers in the U.S.
Due to the low real organic foodsupply and the majority being convectional it is lugubrious to say
that one cannot become detoxed and, if you thought so before doctors are claiming it is
impossible. In order to make real organic goods, we should practice our own organic farmingin

My Visit to Centennial Village Historical Site in Greeley
I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed visiting the Centennial Village historical site
in Greeley. I happened to visit this museum on the perfect day because there were children from
different schools dressed up and living how the people in Northern Colorado lived more than
100 years ago. With the children all dressed up like people used to dress, and doing the chores
that they used to take on really made it the feel like I was back in time. I got to experience dozens
of historical sites, live animals, schools, and businesses that really helped me understand part of
Northern Colorado s history.
One of my favorite parts about this museum was how we got to see all the different immigrants
homes that made this region so culturally diverse. If I were living in Colorado around these times I
most likely would be living in a Stone House because teachers typically lived in these types of
houses. These houses where located on Eagle s Nest Ranch right out of Greeley and were made
up of stones. These houses where primarily made up for ranchers and teachers. Another type of
house is called the Swedish American House, (STUGA) these homes tend to be a little nicer than
the Stone houses and reflect a blend of Old and New World Culture. These one room framed
dwellings with a boxer roof were typically houses for the Swedish immigrants. Another group that
migrated to Northern Colorado was the Spanish. They migrated to Weld County to take advantage

James Montgomery Flagg
There are many pieces in modern design that hold my interest. One of the most interesting pieces
of art in modern design is James Montgomery Flagg s I Want You for U.S. Army poster (James
Montgomery Flagg. I Want You for the U.S. Army, Lithograph, 1917. Library of Congress Prints
and Photographs Division Washington, D.C.). While Flagg s piece aims to encourage people to
take some action according to the current war, it is also very easily understood by the text that is
intertwined. Much like the I Want You for U.S. poster, Julius Klinger s 8th War Bond poster (Julius
Klinger. Kriegsanleihe, Lithograph. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division
Washington, D.C. ) is directed towards the same intent through a different approach. While... Show

Although Flagg s poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger s poster is much less
straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer was not from the same country or
culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg s traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses
complementary colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green
snakelike figure in the center of the poster. Klinger s poster also does not rely on its colors to
represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger s poster relies on its figure
such as the snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through
the snake give the idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped
around the head of the snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning
situation. Unlike Flagg s poster, Klinger s poster seems to take up much more space but does not
have a lot of detail or other figures placed in the background. Klinger s poster is much more
simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value changes that show the
rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg s piece. Although Klinger relies on its two
dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and the figure eight rely on each other in
combination as a whole to depict the message. Much like Flagg s work, the message or context
could be lost if the viewer did not speak the same language or was not from the same country.
Klinger s piece captures both simplicity with its two dimensional style and complexity with its

A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment. There
is a very big difference that helps prepare for a volcanic hazard and that is whether you are in a
MEDC or a LEDC. In a MEDC monitoring volcanic zones and potential hazards is an option many
LEDC s don t have. In Italy at Mt Etna they have Geochemical monitoring programs currently run
by INGV which focus on the analysis of temporal changes, chemical changes and seismic activity.
This option open to the Italians is not an option for LEDC who don t have the wealth or public

There are other factors predicting and preparing wont help for. One is the type of volcanic hazard
such as a sudden pyroclastic flow is much more violent then a slow lava flow. With pyroclastics
you can only reduce the hazard by vacation but lava flows can be diverted and slowed down with
dam wall trenches and spraying water As they did in ice land on the 1973 Heimaey eruption which
started on 23 January.
Some times warning isn t enough because of peoples different circumstances and beliefs they
might not leave. One example is in Columbia in 1985 where they where warned but didn t listen
as they didn t think they would be affected and didn t trust the people telling them. About 20,000
people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia. Four towns in the Andes
region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz,
causing a mudslide. These people weren t told to evacuate until 2 hours before the major eruption
casing massive loss of life. The reason for this late call was because the country didn t trust the
people observing the volcano this meant the potential hazard was far greater then it should have
been ad the results where horrific. This is one example of how poor education and different
situation can greatly increase the hazard.
The Nevado del Ruiz Volcano eruption is also a great example of how the physical environment
affects the hazard. In Armero two

Myopia is the most common eyesight problem which affects about one in five people worldwide.
Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error which makes it difficult for people to
see objects that are far away. The different kinds of myopia, each based on its own symptoms and
severity. All of these myopiashare similar symptoms such as blurry vision, headaches and eye
strain. The most common is classified as simple or mild myopia. High myopia is a severe form
of myopia which affects about 2% of the population. An eye with high myopia continues to grow
and become large which increases the risk of retinal detachment. On normal eyes, the light rays
will focus directly on the surface of the retina. Another form of severe and rare myopia is
degenerative myopia, which begins in early childhood and increases the risk of degenerative
changes. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long or when the cornea is too curved for the
length of the eyeball which causes the light rays to focus in front of the retina. This renders a
person s vision to be limited to under 6 meters. Not being able to see objects that are further than
6 meters creates problems for humans when performing daily tasks. To combat this issue, most
people use a form of vision correction such as glasses or contact lenses while others get surgery.
The curved lenses of eyeglasses and contact lenses helps refocus the light rays onto the retina.
Refractive surgeries correct myopia by changing the shape of the

A Comparative Study of Mythology Essay
Zeus hurls his thunderbolt and the world trembles. Odin invites fallen warriors in the halls of
Valhalla for a drink. Jesus Christ spreads the words of his father and gathers disciples. Buddha sits
and meditates the meaning of the universe. Across the world there have always been mythological
stories. From the first civilization to modern times, mythologies help explain the vents of the world
and attempt to provide answers for unanswerable questions. Though every mythologyappears
different, if one looks close enough, commonalities appear. Joseph Campbellspent his life studying
mythologies and religions along with compiling the commonalities amongst them. This study on
the works of Joseph Campbell focuses on the following areas:

To look at every mythology as true, and not as blasphemous as some mythologies do, one allows
themselves to see the world as Joseph Campbell did, as a world of mythological commonalities
amongst peoples throughout time and location. If such commonalities exist then where do they
come from? How could it be that throughout thousands of years, across thousands of miles
different groups of peoples share the same basic thought processes or ideas? In his book
Primitive Mythology Campbell provides a possible explanation observable in nature called Sign
Stimulus. Sign Stimulus is an energy...understood by the body as being important or effects one
emotionally in some way. (Primitive Mythology Campbell pg. 40 41) To help the reader
understand this concept Campbell provides an example in a nature, a baby bird that instinctively
knows the image of its natural predator (a hawk) and the correct response to the image (hide).
How does the baby bird know what a hawk looks like and how does it know to run away from it,
if it has never seen one before? Campbell suggests that Sign Stimulus is an ingrained image or
response, in the brain, to a situation and is something that is passed down in the genetics of the
animal. In relation to mythology it is logical that humanity, as a member of the Animal

The Greensburg Tornado Essay
On May 4, 2007, the town of Greensburg, Kansas was devastated by an exceptionally strong
tornado. With maximum winds estimated to be in excess of 205 miles per hour, and leaving a
damage path as wide as 1.7 miles, the storm would go on to be rated a rare EF5, the first recorded
in the United States since 1999. When the storm finally subsided, 95 percent of Greensburg had
been destroyed, killing eleven people.
h3 The Setup /h3
May 4 began in much the same way as many other spring days in the Great Plains. Cool, dry air
from the north clashed with warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, creating the sort of unstable
atmosphere that is so common to TornadoAlley. An intense low pressure system moved in and

On the evening of May 4, atmospheric conditions made it possible for a number of these supercells
to sustain themselves for long distances, spawning twisters in cycles across their path.
h3 The Greensburg Tornado /h3
After prompting several warnings across the area, storm chaser groups reported that a particularly
violent supercell had spawned a funnel just southwest of Greensburg at 9:20 p.m. By 9:38 p.m., the
storm had grown to a half mile wide wedge as it approached the town, with several satellite vortices
observed rotating around the main vortex. At 9:41 p.m., the National Weather Service station
located in Dodge City, Kan. issued an emergency statement for the town of Greensburg, indicating
the extreme peril of the situation.
Shortly after the emergency statement was issued, the storm entered the town near its peak
strength. The twister stayed on the ground for a total of 22 miles, passing entirely through
Greensburg and leaving 95 percent of the city destroyed, with the remaining five percent
significantly damaged. Damage surveys done after the storm found areas in which significant
damage extended well in excess of a mile in width. Maximum wind speeds were estimated at 205
miles per hour, though the extent and degree of damage don t rule out a significantly higher wind
speed.
The Greensburg storm was unique for several reasons. In addition to its ferocious intensity, the
structure of the storm as recorded by storm chasers and weather

Subject Matter Jurisdiction
Jurisdiction is a term that defines whether a court has the power or authority to hear and/or decide
a particular case (Schaffer, Agusti, Dhooge, 2015, p.61). Jurisdiction is important because it puts
limits on the power of a court to hear certain cases. Courts cannot possibly hear every case that is
brought before them; therefore, they must use the proper jurisdictionin order to prevent confusing
and conflicting results. There are two categories of jurisdiction: subject matter jurisdiction and
personam jurisdiction. Subject matter jurisdiction gives reference to the authority of a court to
hear a particular type of case whereas, personam jurisdiction gives reference to the courts authority
over an individual or corporation (Schaffer, Agusti, Dhooge, 2015, p.62). Federal courts hear cases
from any state as well as some cases where there is one party outside of the United States; however,
they are only allowed to hear cases where federal jurisdiction can be established. This basically
means that the court must have subject matter jurisdiction of the suit as well as personal jurisdiction
over the involved parties (personam jurisdiction). General jurisdiction may be present when a court
has jurisdiction over a defendant in that state regardless of the kind... Show more content on

She published one of her short stories called: Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? in
1993. In this particular story, Oates writes about a young teenage girl, who in my perspective
the fifteen year old girl liked getting the attention from everyone, especially from boys. Her

and always standing out in the crowd. In the beginning of the story, the narrator described Connie

A Dead Woman s Secret
The short story, A Dead Woman s Secret, is about a mother who just passed away. Her children,
who became successful adults because of mother s love and nurture, kneeled down beside her
bed. The thought of letting her go was terrifying, so they decided to read her old letters. The first
few stocks of letters brought a lot of positive emotions and brightened up their mood. As they dug
further down through the letters, they learned the truth that absolutely destroyed the image of a
perfect mother that they had on their mind ever since the childhood. They found love letters from
a man they never heard of. Mother s secret was extremely disappointing to handle, so they left her
alone in a darkened room. The story demonstrates how people s perspective of others can change
in a single moment because of an insignificant secret that floated after drowning in tears for
decades. The opening paragraph of the story describes how peaceful the dead womanlooked in her
bed before her children could say the final goodbye to their loving mother. Her facial features
looked calm, and her long white hair was carefully arranged as though she wanted to leave this
world as beautiful and blameless as her life was. At the beginning of the story her character was
introduced as a sweet soul that lived in that body, who managed to raise two successful children
alone by arming them with a strict moral code, teaching them religion, without weakness, and duty,
without compromise.

Inadequate Participation
One common reason for unethical decision making among practicing psychology professionals
within a field such as criminal psychology, for example, is incompetency. Incompetency can be
shown when professionals don t receive the adequate training necessary to handle ethical dilemmas
or when professionals attempt to handle a dilemma that they believe they are experienced for when
in reality they aren t. One condition under which professionals are more vulnerable to making an
ethical decision is inadequate anticipation. Inadequate anticipation leaves professionals more
vulnerable because they don t expect the possibility of a specific dilemma arising, they completely
underestimate the seriousness of the dilemma, or they believe taking certain precautions seem
unnecessary or require too much time and effort. It seems as though individuals would possess
insight about flaws in their intellectual and social skills, but individuals tend to be unaware of their
incompetence (Dunning, Johnson, Ehrlinger, Kruger, 2003). Not only do poor... Show more content

The Internet s Effect On Education
On a weekly basis, we spend 80 hours on the internet. Based on how much we spend on the
internet, we should take care of ourselves and not lose our personalities. The internet has changed
us in many ways, but it has pros and cons to the users of the internet. The internet helps students,
teachers, and doctors and give ways to save money. Typewriters were used 100 years ago because
there was no internet, but with internet now we change our culture and society. The invention of the
internet was a turning point in history because it resulted in an influence on morality, education,
civic engagement, and the economy.
The internet has influence on education and morality by changing the way we think of education
and morality. People are even more leery of the internet s effect on morality (Internet Seen as
Positive Influence on Education but Negative on Morality in Emerging and Developing Nations).
The internet has given us a bad morality by having everything from how to do a criminal activity
to how to get away with it. We can learn about drugs and alcohol, where to buy it, and whom to
buy it from. Another example, is that we use internet as an easy way out of our daisy life. A survey
done by Publishers Association show that we use the internet for news , weather , financial services
, retail shopping ,and automobile rather than watch television. From this we can analyze we trust

Because dry rot thrives in damp unventilated areas like floorboards and behind wood panelling
most of the time the damage is done before that fungus is discovered.
How to spot dry rot, initially the fungus appears as off white felt like or cotton wool like sheets
on brickwork and timber and in later stages can develop fungal strands as thick as your finger.
Where the fungus is exposed to light it often has a lemon yellowish colour. Damage is often
confined to timber but large flat mushroom like fruiting bodies can easily grow through finishes
such as plaster or paint. These fruiting bodies may be the first visible sign of a problem, and
they produce numerous spores which are normally brick red in colour. Entirely dry rot decayed
timber can be crumbled between your fingers. The fungus leaves deep cracks running across the
grain, and there is often evidence of off white sheets of the fungus on the wood. Also the brick
red spores that it can leave can grow on their own on a new piece of timber if the conditions are
right. We can also look at dry rot at the molecular level, structural level, and engineering level.
When we look at dry rot at the engineering level we can see the visible effects of the dry rot
which would be cotton wool like fungus. At the structural level once again we would see the cell
structure of the wood and how it would be

Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System
Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They
provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While
treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma
and burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of
medical and nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospitalsystems are well known for
their open door policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether
or not they can pay for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other
providers by ownership. Some are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments,
while others are non profit. However, they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access
to care for all individuals with limited or no access to health care due to their finical circumstances,
insurance status or health condition (What is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015).
Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will
frequently show up in the emergency room. Even if their care is not critical or an emergency, these
patients cannot be turned away. A study performed by an urban institute estimated that the costs of
uncompensated care to these hospitals were as high as forty five billion dollars in 2013.

exceptionally entertaining character in the religious line (182).
Jackie is a young naГЇve boy who is nervous about the transition of obligations according to his
religion. He is planning to make his First Communion, but initially he is required to make his First

confession because he does not want to burn in Hell for eternity like Mrs. Ryan taught him. Jackie
s youth and innocence leads him to believe literally the tales that have been told to him about
confession (178). Jackie thinks that his grandmother and sister are the core to all his evil doing, and
he wishes death upon both of them. Most young children have these same feelings.
Jackie s confidence increases because of the relationships he finds in his mother and the priest.
Jackie s mother is the typical mom. She is always shielding him from the world, and especially his
father s thrashings. It seems she is his only ally in the world until he meets the priest. Jackie feels
betrayed when Nora takes him to confession instead of his mother. As a result, his sister

  • 2. Similarities Between The American Federation Of Labour And... Erin Marie Magee The Knights of Labor and the American Federation of Labor were similar in a lot of ways, however the latter succeeded and the prior did not. These were both union organizations. They consisted of employees bound together for common goals. Some of these goals consisted of: eight hour work day, abolition of child labor, equal pay for equal work and income tax reforms. However, there are some major differences. One difference is that the Knights of Labor accepted men, women, white, black, skilled, and unskilled workers as members. The American Federation of Labor however, only accepted skilled workers and required much higher dues. One reason for the American Federation of Labor requiring higher dues was to sustain the member ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cold Deep Sea Cold water corals form reef structures in the cold deep sea are often defined as self sustaining biogenic reef frameworks and can be found in any ocean around the world at different depths (Roberts, 2005; Davies and Guinotte, 2011). Reefs are patchy distributed on the sea floor and can develop forming impressive solid structures. These can fairly extend forming complex deep sea habitats and shaping niches for many different marine species. These frameworks constitute thus a very specific ecosystem, offering different types of habitats (Buhl Mortensen et al., 1995; Freiwald et al., 2004; Buhl Mortensen et al., 2010) to different marine organisms. These reefs are thus important hotspots of biodiversity (Roberts et al., 2006) and have a key role in the carbon cycle in the deep sea (Roberts et al., 2006; Thiem et al., 2006). In the North East Atlantic, Lophelia pertusa, a scleractinian cold water coral, is the dominating reef forming species. Several symbiotic relations (among 1300 species; Roberts et al, 2006) have been observed in different studies (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl Mortensen, 2004; Roberts, 2005) between scleractinian cold water corals and different invertebrate organisms. However, the degree of these relationships is still not enough defined and poorly understood (Buhl Mortensen and Buhl Mortensen, 2004; Roberts et al., 2009). An example was reported by Roberts (2005) who described a symbiotic relationship between the cold water coral, Lophelia pertusa, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay about Good Man Hard to Find Good Man Hard to Find O Connor s A Good Man Is Hard to Find In A Good Man Is hard to Find, Flannery O Conner really puts the reader in the middle class mode and throws a little religion at us. By this I mean that she takes us to an important part of her mind and soul. One could even say that she lets the Devil come out in her own little way. In reading A Good Man is Hard to Find, we find ourselves in a setting of a lower middle class family with a dominant mother, annoying grandmother and a whinny mother in law. I tend to believe that she is to be the main character. The grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity. However just from this one story I get the feeling that she could be telling of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... OConner was trying to put the question of Religion to the reader. What has happened to the World ? It had become complicated. Here you have a dear old lady just trying to get her only son to take her where she wants to go. Consider the Christian idea of evil as opposed to a divine nation of the good. The characters usually are acting from right intentions, but they end up attempting to inflict their ideas of what is good on those who don t agree them, those not so fortunate. She shows us how violent the recipients of this good can become and how they resist it and react to it , Religion that is. Who was the momentary messiah, the on the spot Jesus the Judas mother giving up her son in hopes that she might live? These are questions I thought O Connor was asking in A Good Man is Hard to Find. Grandma, I believe it is all her making and doing. She brought the family to the situation. She provoked the Killer. The killer s statements about his life especially his own father reflects he too was subject to religious questions. and the fact that the lifestyles of the southern whites were descending is evidence of society s demise is blended into the story, and presented through an interesting generation gap. The gap to me is between the son, mother, kids and killer. The Son was a whimp and a momma s boy I could sense that from the start. The Son pays little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these pieces hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of these concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression. One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of humiliation. The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart and Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame that is felt by Lancelot and Guineverebut in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be compared to the tale Sir Gawainin the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be learned, rather than a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to shape both the characters and stories in their own way. In ChrГ©tien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is hesitating after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. ChrГ©tien de Troyes writes: At that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for the knight, who hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of hesitation and be accused and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But Reason, who does not follow Love s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and counseled him not to do anything for which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter what decision Lancelot would have made, he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have no hesitated, he would have been shamed by the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere would have pressured Lancelot into shame for hesitation or not riding the cart in general. After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. Unlike Flagg s traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses complementary colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green snakelike figure in the center of the poster. Klinger s poster also does not rely on its colors to represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger s poster relies on its figure such as the snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped around the head of the snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Unlike Flagg s poster, Klinger s poster seems to take up much more space but does not have a lot of detail or other figures placed in the background. Klinger s poster is much more simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg s piece. Although Klinger relies on its two dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and the figure eight rely on each other in combination as a whole to depict the message. The most common is classified as simple or mild myopia. High myopia is a severe form of myopia which affects about 2% of the population. Another form of severe and rare myopia is degenerative myopia, which begins in early childhood and increases the risk of degenerative changes. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is too long or when the cornea is too curved for the length of the eyeball which causes the light rays to focus in front of the retina. This renders a person s vision to be limited to under 6 meters. Not being able to see objects that are further than 6 meters creates problems for humans when performing daily tasks. Jurisdiction is important because it puts limits on the power of a court to hear certain cases. Courts cannot possibly hear every case that is brought before them; therefore, they must use the proper jurisdictionin order to prevent confusing and conflicting results. There are two categories of jurisdiction: subject matter jurisdiction and personam jurisdiction. Subject matter jurisdiction gives reference to the authority of a court to hear a particular type of case whereas, personam jurisdiction gives reference to the courts authority over an individual or corporation (Schaffer, Agusti, Dhooge, 2015, p.62). • 30. A Dead Woman s Secret The short story, A Dead Woman s Secret, is about a mother who just passed away. Her children, who became successful adults because of mother s love and nurture, kneeled down beside her bed. The thought of letting her go was terrifying, so they decided to read her old letters. The first few stocks of letters brought a lot of positive emotions and brightened up their mood. As they dug further down through the letters, they learned the truth that absolutely destroyed the image of a perfect mother that they had on their mind ever since the childhood. They found love letters from a man they never heard of. Mother s secret was extremely disappointing to handle, so they left her alone in a darkened room. The story demonstrates how people s perspective of others can change in a single moment because of an insignificant secret that floated after drowning in tears for decades. The opening paragraph of the story describes how peaceful the dead womanlooked in her bed before her children could say the final goodbye to their loving mother. Her facial features looked calm, and her long white hair was carefully arranged as though she wanted to leave this world as beautiful and blameless as her life was. At the beginning of the story her character was introduced as a sweet soul that lived in that body, who managed to raise two successful children alone by arming them with a strict moral code, teaching them religion, without weakness, and duty, without compromise. ... • 31. Inadequate Participation One common reason for unethical decision making among practicing psychology professionals within a field such as criminal psychology, for example, is incompetency. Incompetency can be shown when professionals don t receive the adequate training necessary to handle ethical dilemmas or when professionals attempt to handle a dilemma that they believe they are experienced for when in reality they aren t. One condition under which professionals are more vulnerable to making an ethical decision is inadequate anticipation. Inadequate anticipation leaves professionals more vulnerable because they don t expect the possibility of a specific dilemma arising, they completely underestimate the seriousness of the dilemma, or they believe taking certain precautions seem unnecessary or require too much time and effort. It seems as though individuals would possess insight about flaws in their intellectual and social skills, but individuals tend to be unaware of their incompetence (Dunning, Johnson, Ehrlinger, Kruger, 2003). Based on how much we spend on the internet, we should take care of ourselves and not lose our personalities. The internet has changed us in many ways, but it has pros and cons to the users of the internet. The internet helps students, teachers, and doctors and give ways to save money. Typewriters were used 100 years ago because there was no internet, but with internet now we change our culture and society. The invention of the internet was a turning point in history because it resulted in an influence on morality, education, civic engagement, and the economy. The internet has influence on education and morality by changing the way we think of education and morality. People are even more leery of the internet s effect on morality (Internet Seen as Positive Influence on Education but Negative on Morality in Emerging and Developing Nations). The internet has given us a bad morality by having everything from how to do a criminal activity to how to get away with it. We can learn about drugs and alcohol, where to buy it, and whom to buy it from. Another example, is that we use internet as an easy way out of our daisy life. Because dry rot thrives in damp unventilated areas like floorboards and behind wood panelling most of the time the damage is done before that fungus is discovered. How to spot dry rot, initially the fungus appears as off white felt like or cotton wool like sheets on brickwork and timber and in later stages can develop fungal strands as thick as your finger. Where the fungus is exposed to light it often has a lemon yellowish colour. Damage is often confined to timber but large flat mushroom like fruiting bodies can easily grow through finishes such as plaster or paint. These fruiting bodies may be the first visible sign of a problem, and they produce numerous spores which are normally brick red in colour. Entirely dry rot decayed timber can be crumbled between your fingers. The fungus leaves deep cracks running across the grain, and there is often evidence of off white sheets of the fungus on the wood. Also the brick red spores that it can leave can grow on their own on a new piece of timber if the conditions are right. We can also look at dry rot at the molecular level, structural level, and engineering level. When we look at dry rot at the engineering level we can see the visible effects of the dry rot which would be cotton wool like fungus. The prevalent reason for it being famous is that this scene is the scene where the two lovers come together, took an oath for their love and plan to marry. • 37. Safety Net Hospitals And The United States Health Care System Safety net hospitals have played an important role in the United States health care system. They provide a significant amount of care to low income, uninsured, and vulnerable populations. While treating these types of populations, they are still able to provide high cost services such as trauma and burn care. They often take on additional roles and responsibilities such as the training of medical and nursing students (Coughlin et al., 2014). These hospitalsystems are well known for their open door policy (Wynn et al., 2002). They will examine and treat all individuals, whether or not they can pay for any of their services. The hospitals are not distinguished from other providers by ownership. Some are publicly owned and operated by local or state governments, while others are non profit. However, they are distinguished by their commitment to provide access to care for all individuals with limited or no access to health care due to their finical circumstances, insurance status or health condition (What is a Safety Net Hospital, 2015). Due to safety net hospitals urban locations, they tend to treat more uninsured patients who will frequently show up in the emergency room.
