A Culture Evaluation
(Beyond SHEER words and re-positioning
ourselves for J Y)
By: Abiodun Hakeem Laaro
E.A:CEO / Lead: Executive Office
Line up:
• What culture is
• What is our culture
• Beyond #SHEER words
• Conceptual understanding of #OurValues
• Speed/Honour/Empowerment/Excellence/
Relentlessness
• Repositioning ourselves for #JOY
• The relevance of body language
• Remember the 1st thing from our #JOY
lesson
The creation of organizational
culture is seemingly always
traced back to the founders of
the organization and even in
cases when this doesn’t occur
consciously, it out-rightly
reflects the way the founders
want events to unfold in the
organization. This is traced to
the attraction-selection-
attrition theory.
Culture formation
What exactly is our culture?
• Its perception: Who is #RED
• Discourse:
Beyond sheer words
Conceptual understanding of
Speed: where is CJ running to?
Speed as availability
Speed as access to information: We have done
it but…
Speed as prioritizing work flow: Facilitating
the work of others.
Honour
• Honour as :
• Understanding ethical conduct
• Accepting responsibility: for work and
others: Opens doors (Trust)
• Mind set: I don’t know it and I should learn
it.
Empowerment
• Empowerment as:
• Seeking avenues to facilitate personal
development.
• Support for others: Concern for problems
• Provision of resources:
#CJ’sreadingmaterials
• Observe relationships and what makes them
work :Willingness to Invest in others
Excellence:
• Define your standards.
• Expression of #Intergity.
• A conscious effort towards understanding.
Relentlessness
• Relentlessness as:
• Finding new ways to do things/ Creative
propositions.
• Understanding communication channels:
• “I have done it since and I’ve been trying to tell him”
• A conscious effort towards completing
tasks.
Repositioning ourselves for
J Y
• Lessons from Amy Cuddy:
• Tweaking this can change the way your life unfolds
The first lesson about JOY
• We will come back to this shortly
The relevance of Body Language
• Our Fascination with body language
• Non-verbal behaviour = communication= Interaction = Judgements
Case in point
• How we judge others, how they judge us
and what the out come are.
• We forget the last audience “Ourselves”
(thoughts, feelings and physiology)
Body Language And The Expression Of Power.
Pride: Even blind people do this
Vs.
Research conducted by Amy Cuddy Ph.d
(Harvard)
• Our nonverbal behaviour govern how others think and feel about
us.
• But…
• Do our nonverbals govern how we think and feel about
ourselves?
• We smile when we feel happy and when we are forced to smile,
we feel happy (in the moment). Same goes for power.
• Also our minds change our body, but do our bodies change our
minds?
The state of power
Disposition of Powerful people: Confident, optimistic and risk
takers…
Physiology of high power alphas and leaders:
High testosterone and low cortisol.
Role Change:
Results
Conclusion: Our nonverbals do
govern how we think and feels
about ourselves and our bodies
change our minds
Tests
Tests (2)
Application to evaluative situations
(pitches, interview and High stress situations)
Perception
So lets fake it…
Till we become it…
SO… Lets focus on J Y
This is me…
What are you doing with this
opportunity?
