Directions:
1. Collect a number of ordinary objects from around your house, or anywhere really. You can use sticks, rocks, plastic
trash, coral, old things you find in the attic. It doesn’t matter, they just need to be smaller than a breadbox.
2. Using 5-7 of these objects of various size, paint them to convey one Positive Emotion, and then paint another set or re-
paint the original to convey one Negative Emotion. You may paint the objects in any way you like, with designs, without,
etc. Just be sure to think carefully about your color combination and the association you are aiming to produce.
Please don't try to “tell a story” or create a “diorama” like the Battle of Gettysburg or some other nonsense. The
EMOTION MUST BE CONVEYED ONLY BY COLOR AND FORM NOT BY “REPRESENTATIONAL”
ELEMENTS!!!!
3. Select a background color and arrange the objects. Think carefully about informal balance and design principles.
4. Once I have provided you with the digital files, please edit the images on photoshop. Use Color Balance,
Hue/Saturation, Vibrance, and Replace color to further articulate your vision.
5. In “Helvetica” font, and ONLY “Helvetica” font. Write the name of the emotion you wished to convey with the text tool.
Keep the text small, but not too small.
6. Return the edited file to me and I will print out a high quality image for you.

ORIGINALITY (20 pts): Your objects and color combinations are unique and creative.
