This document summarizes a study that analyzed grammatical errors in writing samples from 60 Malaysian university students. The study found a total of 797 errors across six categories: singular/plural nouns, articles, prepositions, adjectives/nouns/adverbs, subject-verb agreement, and verb tenses. The highest number of errors were in singular/plural nouns. The document suggests these errors largely stem from negative transfer from the students' first language of Malay, which differs from English in terms of plurality, articles, prepositions, word order, and verb agreement. Recommendations are made to help students improve their writing skills and reduce these grammatical errors.
