1. A Brief History
Ingenuity wasn't born overnight.
For more than 30 years, libraries have used SirsiDynix technologies to bring the power of their collections to their communities. Our story
began when Northwestern University developed a system to automate its library card catalogs in the 1960s. Since then, we have been a
committed partner to libraries around the world, employing technology that allows librarians to do more than just keep track of their collection.
Today, more than 23,000 library facilities in more than 70 countries use our products and services to bring the power of knowledge and
information to 300 million users worldwide.
As stated in the American Library Association's 2010 State of America's Libraries Report, "The local library, a traditional source of free
access to books, magazines, CDs and DVDs, has become a lifeline, offering technology training and workshops on topics that ranged from
resume-writing to job-interview skills."
Libraries today are more than buildings full of books. As the needs of the people and communities they serve have substantially changed,
libraries have rapidly responded. Because of their unchanging commitment to providing people access to information, libraries continue to be
information leaders around the world. Every member of the SirsiDynix team is proud to be a part of that commitment, developing
technologies that makes access to information possible in ways we never imagined.
SirsiDynix develops technology with the philosophy that the tools you use today should not hinder you from achieving your goals tomorrow.
SirsiDynix is proud to create these industry-leading tools, for more libraries than any other vendor in the world, for the benefit of libraries and
communities everywhere.

SOLUTIONS FOR K-12 SCHOOLS
Class field-trip day might have a new rival...
Running a K-12 school library can be a lot of work, but we're about to make it much easier. Confused part-time staff? No problem. Bored or
trouble-seeking kids? No longer.
For those who run the library, SirsiDynix solutions such as StaffWeb make the job of the K-12 library easier by providing basic circulation,
cataloging and reporting features all accessible through a Web browser. With StaffWeb, the time-consuming work involved in installing staff
clients at each school library – as many school districts typically have several sites throughout the district – is eliminated. Intuitive, basic
functionality is provided without needing to do a lot of detailed configuration to get it up and running. Your library tools are up and ready to go
via Web in a few clicks.
For the little guys who come to the library to learn, SirsiDynix Enterprise is a solution aptly fit the K-12 library user. Through Enterprise, kids
can explore, discover and learn all online through your school’s library. By enabling the creation of customized, themed ―rooms‖ of content,
Enterprise will engage the child in the learning process – allowing them to benefit both from your library contents and the vast resources
beyond the school walls. With thousands of pages integrating multimedia content, websites and other resources of your choosing, your
library’s ―rooms‖ – easily created by you – can all organized around the K-12 curriculum and rotated at will. What’s more, to prevent any
distractions or misuse of computer time, SirsiDynix products are all equipped with authority control settings, so you can deem which content
is permissible for each respective group of students.
The options are limitless, but one thing is certain: the learning experience will be greatly enriched. And with SirsiDynix tools at your aid and
the power of dynamic, content-specific discovery at your users’ fingertips, your K-12 students very well may begin to prefer library day over
field trips.

FOR SCHOOLS: WHY SIRSIDYNIX?
PTA volunteers and little learners, rejoice! The K-12 school library, while having many similarities to other libraries, has some very specific
needs because of its unique setting and audience. For example, for day-to-day library operations, often times K-12 libraries are run by
volunteers rather than full-time trained staff. And it’s not uncommon for an elementary school to not have a full IT department to concern itself
with the extra work involved in installing a staff client and hosting a server for library records.
And what about the library users? The vast majority of them are still learning reading, writing and arithmetic. We understand, and we have
solutions specifically designed for both the PTA mom volunteer and the little learner types, to both enhance the learning experience and
make everyone’s roll within the learning environment a little bit easier. Let us introduce you to a new day in the life of your school library.

SOLUTIONS FOR SPECIAL LIBRARIES
As a current or prospective non-traditional library, you probably have some questions. If you’re getting started, you want to know how difficult
this library software will be and if you’ll be able to use it. Second, you probably want to know what library technology can do for you. Let’s
address these in order. First, while SirsiDynix solutions were created for libraries, they were also designed for easy use by non-librarians.
Most special libraries are staffed by people who do not come from a library background. That’s perfectly okay. Our solutions have taken that
into account. Our main focus is helping you to effectively share and manage information to achieve organizational goals. To that end, a few
features that might ease your mind include:
Wizards. Our software is equipped with them. Particularly valuable are the ones that double-check your record entries. If you start to enter
something that is already in the system, it will let you know so you don’t have duplicate data.
Cloud computing. The short description of this is, we manage your server hardware and backups so you don’t have to. With our highly
trained data and technical staff, we’ll handle the day-to-day maintenance work on our end, saving you both time and money.
Web Reporter. With businesses having to run leaner and meaner, your corporate library needs to prove its worth just like everyone else.
Web Reporter helps with that. Our solutions offer a complete suite of reporting tools so you can document circulation, usage, money saved
or virtually anything else you can think of.
Consulting. Our team of library technology professionals can train you to do your job better, faster and more effectively. Call on consulting
anytime to get advice on how to best utilize your technology investment to meet and surpass your organizational goals. It’s this ease of use
that makes SirsiDynix solutions practical for special libraries, right out of the box.
Now, let’s talk about the exciting stuff. What can SirsiDynix library technology do for you. Let’s preface this discussion by saying, in the realm
of tracking and sharing information, there’s not a lot it can’t do. But, a few of the capabilities we like to tout include:
Ultimate cataloguing power. All your information, easily segmented and at your fingertips. Even data stored within scanned documents is
catalogued and searchable with the in-text searching capabilities of our dynamic discovery portal, SirsiDynix Enterprise. Enterprise also
enables the creation of custom ―rooms‖ of information, focused on the content areas that are important to you (and easily changeable, as
new areas of interest develop).
Ultimate searching power. Imagine a search that not only scans your catalogued data, documents and multimedia, but goes beyond the
confines of your library to pull dynamic supplementary information on related subject matter – upcoming events, Web resources and more
– all in one place. Targeted, faceted and completely customizable.
You control who sees what. With SirsiDynix’s industry-leading authority control technology, your information can be safeguarded at
varying levels for the many people and departments who will be accessing it. Security strong enough for military bases and courthouses,
your information is stored centrally but accessible to many, as you deem fit.
Bibliographic records aren’t just for books. With SirsiDynix technology, all your assets can be catalogued specifically and tracked
locally or on a global basis. Whether it be a shade of paint, a swatch of fabric, a weight of paper or any other informational nugget,
SirsiDynix can catalog elements of your brand or business to ensure exact consistency in output, no matter where that output needs to be.

its global product line, SirsiDynix solutions fulfill needs and empower the sharing of information in a sleek, quantifiable and results-generating

SirsiDynix solutions have been used to:

and shared on a global level

calendaring of required cleanings and maintenance

resource support for federal courthouses

your solution. From our supplementary modules, to the built-in functionality that makes SirsiDynix the provider of choice for more

FOR CORPORATE, GOVERNMENT AND OTHER SPECIAL LIBRARIES
In our information-centric world, it's imperative that professionals and the institutions in which they work have well-organized access to the
knowledge and resources it takes to meet objectives — from getting new products to market to protecting national security to finding
precedent-setting legal information to discovering new cures for disease.
That's why special libraries and their staffs play a critical role within the institutions they support, whether they're serving employees at offices
worldwide; supporting leaders within government agencies; meeting the information and research needs of lawyers or lawmakers; or
supporting faculty, staff and patients at a medical research center.
Not surprisingly, these uncommon objectives give rise to equally uncommon challenges. Working with unique materials or unusually high
numbers of serials are just some examples of how your operation differs from a more traditional library. You may also be working with an
extremely small staff or have a more extensive need to use digital materials. Whatever your library's unique needs, SirsiDynix has the
experience and technology to meet them. Special libraries around the world have chosen SirsiDynix products to help them provide the
distinct services required by their users.
That's why federal, corporate, law, medical, theological, museum and other special libraries around the world turn to SirsiDynix. SirsiDynix
provides the comprehensive integrated technology your organization needs to provide easy and effective access to resources and to execute
mission-critical library tasks.
