Metadata enriching and filtering for enhanced collection discoverability Getaneh Alemu
The return on investment for academic libraries is chiefly tied to access, usage and impact. Without accurate, consistent and quality metadata on the one hand, and an easy-to-use and effective discovery service on the other, these valuable resources may remain invisible and inaccessible to users. In this talk, Getaneh aims to present four overarching metadata principles, namely: metadata enriching, linking, openness and filtering. And how these ideas help shape the metadata creation and discovery services at Solent University – focusing on the implementation of RDA and FRBR as well as the use of subject headings and authority controls.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A bibliometric study on authorship trends and research themes
1. A Bibliometric Study on Authorship
Trends and Research Themes in
Knowledge Management Literature
J. Jussila, H. Aramo-Immonen, Karan Menon, Nina
Helander – Tampere University of Technology
N. Mustafee – University of Exeter
A. Hajikhani – Lappeenranta University of Technology
12th International Forum on Knowledge Asset Dynamics – IFKAD
2017
St. Petersburg, Russia
7th of June, 2017
2. Aim of the study
• Identify the contribution of authors in the
domain of knowledge management
from two leading KM journals
according to Serenko & Bontis
list
• Identify dominant KM research themes
• Identify intellectual turning points in KM
research and its evolution
à where is the research gap?
7.6.2017 2
3. Bibliographic method
• Data was extracted from Thomson Reuters
Web of Science (WoS) 2009-2016 to perform
the following analyses:
– Contribution of authors identified by co-
citation network visualisations and network
metrics (14 422 authors being cited,1 023 123
citations)
– Key research themes identified by topic
modeling
7.6.2017 3
11. Conclusions
• Contrasting the two, the topics were fairly similar
– Knowledge sharing and communities, and networks were more dominant topics
in JKM
– Intellectual capital, intangible assets and performance management more
dominant in JKM
• Interestingly, although topics were fairly similar, the most
authorative papers and corresponding authors were
totally different
• Limitation: Broader data sets (more journals included)
could reveal a more holistic picture
• Nevertheless, it is proposed that the methodology can
serve as a good introduction to any domain and support
in discovering research gaps and less discussed topics
in the literature
