million members worldwide
• Established in Japan in 1880. 34 centres, 172 branches
nationwide, 100,000 members
• Activities in Social Welfare & Education, Community Services,
International Relief, and Wellness (physical fitness)
FCSC：
• Volunteer committee consisting of members from the
international business community and diplomats (ambassadors)
• Mission: To raise funds to support nationwide YMCA programs
• Since 1987, focus has been on Challenged Children

3. CHALLENGED CHILDREN
Who are They & What is Their Situation?
• Japanese boys and girls - from infants to high school
• Some born with disorders; some developed or diagnosed
with disorders after birth; victims of accidents
• Some confined to wheelchairs, others with prostheses
• Many suffer from very serious conditions, such as
muscular dystrophy, down syndrome, autism, cerebral
palsy
• They receive no or very little support from national,
prefectural, and local governments

4. THE CURRENT SITUATION
• FCSC supports 3,000 physically and mentally Challenged Children
every year to improve their quality of life
• Since 1987, FCSC has raised over ¥ 500 million and supported over
38,000 Challenged Children through 160 programs and 110 camps
• However, there still remains over 176,000 Challenged Children
receive little or no support.
