Key Learning Goals:

characters in the play
Expected Learning Outcomes:
all pupils? some pupils? a few pupils?
All pupils will be able to position each
character as a capitalist or socialist on a
timeline.They will compare each character
at the end of Act One to the end of page 36.
Students will also find quotes to back up
their findings..
Opportunities for Assessment:
Formative & summative
 Burning questions – students will write down two questions that they want to learn in Act
Two. This allows students to think in depth aboutideas that they have or questions that
they want answered.
 Evaluating characters – students will draw a timeline and plotwhere each character goes,
with ‘capitalist’and ‘socialist’ on either side. They will think aboutall the characters at the
end of Act One, and they will also do the same after they have read the start of Act Two
(up to page 36).
 Reading pages 27 – 36 – students will act out the start of Act Two, and they will have to
think abouthowthe characters are changing.This will allow them to think in depth about
each character, and the utterances that the character’s use.
 Find quotes to support evaluation – students will have to find quotes from pages 27 – 36
to support their findings aboutshifting characters on the timeline.
Cognitive challenges:
Desirable difficulties for all abilities; how will students progress?
Finding quotes to support their evaluation – students will have to find
quotes to support where they have placed their character. Theywill do this
in their pairs, so that the burden will be lifted. They will also be able to
discuss the quote in detail and explain why they have chosen those
particular quotes.
EBT strategies:
e.g. APK, reciprocal teaching, collaborative learning, advance & visual organisers,
similarities and differences, goals, repetition and practice, meta-cognition, feedback,
cognitive challenge, subject knowledge, summaries and note-taking
 Collaborative learning – working together to find quotes to support
how each character is changing.

9AS Act Two Evaluating 18.4.2016

Lesson Plan pro forma Class: 9AS (ii) Set ability (around level 5/6 in the old NC levels) indicate levels of attainment Date: 18.4.2016 Time: 11:15 – 12:20 No. of pupils: 23 Unit /SoW: An Inspector Calls – Act Two Key Learning Goals: ref. to exam board criteria/NC as appropriate … in pupil-friendly format: LO: To evaluate the position of the characters in the play Expected Learning Outcomes: all pupils? some pupils? a few pupils? All pupils will be able to position each character as a capitalist or socialist on a timeline.They will compare each character at the end of Act One to the end of page 36. Students will also find quotes to back up their findings.. Opportunities for Assessment: Formative & summative  Burning questions – students will write down two questions that they want to learn in Act Two. This allows students to think in depth aboutideas that they have or questions that they want answered.  Evaluating characters – students will draw a timeline and plotwhere each character goes, with ‘capitalist’and ‘socialist’ on either side. They will think aboutall the characters at the end of Act One, and they will also do the same after they have read the start of Act Two (up to page 36).  Reading pages 27 – 36 – students will act out the start of Act Two, and they will have to think abouthowthe characters are changing.This will allow them to think in depth about each character, and the utterances that the character’s use.  Find quotes to support evaluation – students will have to find quotes from pages 27 – 36 to support their findings aboutshifting characters on the timeline. Cognitive challenges: Desirable difficulties for all abilities; how will students progress? Finding quotes to support their evaluation – students will have to find quotes to support where they have placed their character. Theywill do this in their pairs, so that the burden will be lifted. They will also be able to discuss the quote in detail and explain why they have chosen those particular quotes. EBT strategies: e.g. APK, reciprocal teaching, collaborative learning, advance & visual organisers, similarities and differences, goals, repetition and practice, meta-cognition, feedback, cognitive challenge, subject knowledge, summaries and note-taking  Collaborative learning – working together to find quotes to support how each character is changing.
