Lesson Plan Format
Teacher/subject: Fiorindo/Music Week of: 9/16/16
Lesson duration 40 minutes
Grade 7, vocal
Content standards 1.1.5.B.2 The elements of music are building blocks denoting meter, rhythmic concepts,
tonality, intervals, chords, and melodic and harmonic progressions, all of which contribute to
musical literacy (UNIT 1)
1.3.5.B1 Sing or play music from complex notation (Unit2)
Instructional
Objective
Students will learn the basic concept of “solfeggio” by singing the notes with syllables and
trough hand signs, and they will apply the concept to learn how to sing a new tune.
Instructional
Procedure
LESSON OPENING: Meet and greet students by the music classroom door, if possible,
while preparing the mp3 and other lesson material needed. Have the students sit in a semi-
circle (ideally). Take attendance and verify student’s readiness for activities
Warm Up: Ask students to stand up and relax their arms along the side of their body, stand
tall and inhale from the belly rather than the chest; teacher plays warm-up on the piano, and
then sings along; students will try singing along the second time. When lyrics are learned,
proceed with half step of a tone increases (from C to G) and back (optional)
MINI LESSON (students can sit down) what is Solfeggio?
While Writing the syllables names on the board, in ascending pattern, tell students what the
learning objective is for today’s class; explain etymology, from sol-fa, and historical origins
(Guido D’Arezzo hand). Diatonic major Scale concept
Have students stand up in a semicircle, and sing along long tones using syllables, up and
down, and trying different intervals.
Hand solfeggio:
Add Kodaly hand signs when students gain familiarity with the syllables. Students will
mirror teacher’s sounds and hand signs, step by step DO RE MI, then FA SOL, then LA TI
(if time), Students can sit down
• Survey students, ask if anyone can tell the class what is algebra, and if they have
learned it yet, the triple O (order of operation).

Lesson Plan Format
Ask if any student knows what this acronym stands for, then discuss the purpose of
memorizing it (learning algebra’s order of operation to pass the next math test-academic
success): playback the mp3. Students stand up:
Connect to Solfeggio from measure 9 to 24 (4 bars sing back style). From measure 25
discuss the quarter note melody pattern then practice slowly (with piano if necessary)
ASSESMENT: Students will work in small groups and compete to finish the solfege
worksheet (if time), otherwise they will take home the worksheet, due next class.
Differentiated
