Objectives:
Studentswill demonstrateproperhandposition,breathingandarticulationonthe recorder.
Studentswill playthe songs“HotCrossBuns” and “GentlySleep”usingcorrect fingerings,tone
productionandrhythm.
Studentswill playandbe silentatappropriate times.
Procedure:
Behaviorwill be monitoredusingthe “stoplight”nexttothe Smartboard. If studentshave good
behaviorthroughoutthe class,theywillreceive agreenstickerbytheirteacher’sname onthe
chart at the frontof the room.
As studentsenterthe room,entrance musicwillbe playing. The studentswillhave toidentify
the title andcomposerof the music.
Studentswill be askedtograba recorder. They will eitherhave theirownorhave to use a
classroomrecorder.
Teacherwill demonstrate restandreadyposition,properhandposition,breathing,tone
productionandarticulation.
Teacherwill demonstrate the firstthree fingeringsthatwill be usedon the recorder.Teacher
and studentswill performsome echoplayingexercises.
Teacherwill showthe note namesthatgo withthese fingerings.
Teacherwill showthe musicfor“Hot Cross Buns”and go overletternamesandrhythmswith
students.
Teacherwill performthissongwhile studentsdofingerings.
Studentswill performthissongwhileteacherpointsoutnotes.
The procedure will be repeatedforthe song“GentlySleep.”
Teacherwill demonstrate how tocleanthe recordersandmonitorthatthe studentscleanthe
recordersproperly.
Studentswill line upanda greenstickerwill be rewardedif properbehaviorhasbeen
maintained.
Assessments
Teacherwill periodicallycheckstudentsthroughoutthe lessontosee if theyare acquiring
the desiredskills.
In laterlessons,studentswill be askedtoperformsongsindividuallytodemonstrate certain
skills. A checklistwill be usedtocheckforthe presence of these skills.
