Topic/theme: Creating a performance combining other art forms

learning areas (ACARA, 2012)
Preparation/Organisation:
Have song True Blue Wonders downloaded on laptop
Have cd players/ipods (4)for students to listen to
Have art supplies ready for the students
Example of art work
Introduction:
Students sitting at their desks.
Play song from laptop
Discuss with students what they think the song is about
Discuss with students how they feel about the song
Explain the task – To create either their own song with wildlife sounds and perform to
class, create a dance to this song or create a story board for this song in groups of 6.
Development:
Group students into 5 groups of 6 students and allocate them an ipod and a rehearsal
space.
Have the students pick a team leader to lead the group
Have students decide on how they are to perform their song.
Students have 25 minutes to put together their performance
Conclusion:
Each group is to perform their song to the whole class
After each performance take responses from the class on positive feelings they thought
about the group’s performance
Assessment:
- Student contribution to groups performance.
- Individual contribution during group activities
- Student contribution during sharing time.

member (ACARA, 2012)
4.9 Reflect upon and share thoughts and feelings about their music making, and
communicate ideas about a range of music from Australia, the Asia region and other
world cultures (ACARA, 2012)
Preparation/Organisation:
1. Prepare a power point with titles and short samples of the songs the whyalla primary
school choir had performed.
2. Work sheet for students reflection
Introduction:
Students seated at desks facing the projector
Show students the Power point presentation, stopping and discussing each song and
ask what they remember from the performance and how they felt about it
Ask questions to prompt discussion about the tempo, beat, rhythm, melody, lyrics and
get students to show examples
Development:
Hand out work sheet, one to each student – students will look at song lyrics and write
down what they think he song is about how it makes them feel.
Teacher to move amongst students to observe and ensure students are on task.
Conclusion:
Students reform as a whole class
Students will share their opinions and answers to the questions on the worksheet
Prompt discussion between students
Assessment:
Students reaction to PowerPoint
Students examples of beat, rhythm etc
Students worksheet responses
Students participation in group discussion
