1. Grant Allocation

Outcome: I allocated $57,300 to 37 non-profit organizations.
Significance: CVS Caremark builds relationships in the communities it operates
by giving organizations $500-$5000.

Steps: Reviewed applications and award organizations based on:
            •Alignment with CVS Caremark’s giving guidelines;
                 Benefit children with disabilities
                 Provide healthcare for the uninsured
Inclusion of disabled children in public schools
             •Clear accomplishments in past
             •Large amount of individuals served
             •Feasible lead time
             •Tangible project goals
             •Credibility
2. State Reports

Outcome: I helped compile 42 important state reports
that will help communicate CVS Caremark’s community
 impact to key stakeholders.
Significance: The state reports are a summary of all the CVS Caremark
community involvement in each state to be given to the Sales Team (MAX),
District Managers & Government Affairs

summarize the key information regarding the new ERF
program that will be used to help CVS Caremark
employees in need.

Editor's Notes

  1. Thank you for coming to our presentations today, and welcome! I am going to be reflecting on my summer experience as the community relations intern reporting to Randy, Jennifer & Joanne.
  2. On the agenda for today, I am going to tell you about myself, go over my main projects, describe some events I attended and finally end with my key takeaways.
  3. The combination of my experiences have helped me complete the following projects I worked on over the summer. For each I will explain the significance of the project, the steps I took the complete it and the outcome.
  4. Webex meeting
  5. Basically, the state reports provide the sales team, district managers and government affairs with concrete information regarding CVS Caremark’s community engagement in each state. Another benefit of the state reports were that by summarizing all of the involvement by state, we had a better understanding of which states need more attention, and areas for improvement. The steps I took to complete this assignments were to create a blank template and fill in the corresponding information by state. I also was responsible for editing the final versions. My overall outcome was that I helped compile 42 reports that will be help CVS communicate the community impact to key stakeholders.
  6. My next project was working on a new project that will launches this fall. The ERF will provide short-term, immediate financial relief with grants up to $3,0000 to employees who’ve suffered significant hardship as a result of a natural disaster, family death, medical emergency or other unforeseen designated events. Funded by employee payroll deduction with a suggested donation of $1 per employee per month, and an initial contribution from CVS Caremark. For this program, we needed to design a manual to give human resources to refer to when an employee inquires. The steps I took were to meet with Joanne, Compile all the necessary documents and assemble. The outcome was that I made a Manuel to summarize the key information that will in turn be able to help CVS Caremark employees who are going through hardships.
  7. Before going into my project on measuring the impact of employee volunteerism, I just wanted to set the tone with this quote. “ A number of studies have found that corporate philanthropic initiatives (employee volunteerism) can provide a new channel for fulfilling a number of employees’ emotional needs and increase their sense of identification with a company”
  8. Because we know employee volunteerism can have a positive effect on Retention, loyalty, absenteeism, motivation, identification and productivity.. We needed a way to measure our impact. First, I conducted research, designed a survey that would capture the relevant information, worked across different departments and fianlized the survey. Although the survey will not be going out until the introduction of our new volunteer website, your cause, I will continue to work on this project because I am interested in finding the expected results of a correlation between employee volunteerism’s and employee engagement.
  9. Finally, I just wanted to mention some smaller projects that I learned a lot from. I researched different possible projects for CVS such as what to include on our ERF website, a donation program where we donate backpacks to children in schools and a possible partnership with Avril Lavigne. I also went through and helped with the Charitable trust applications. It is crucial that we verify the status of the charities applying for tax reasons, and I went through and made sure they were 501c3 verified. I also e-mailed the recipients of the Charitable Trust grants for 2010 and collected impact stories that will be put on our community relations website. Finally, I developed a flyer to distribute to employees in California encouraging participation in a bike event.
  10. Community Relations is an essential part of an organization. It benefits a corporation’s external reputation and makes the work that each employee does more meaningful. Sometimes the community relations impact is not all monetary. I learned that community relations really makes a lasting impact through the relationships we make and the support we give. Community Relations is a win-win situation because it is a win for the community organization’s that need support for good causes, and it is a win for the organization because of the limitless benefits. Teamwork with Pr, Internal Communications, Engagement, Marketing & Community Relations is key. It takes a lot of different departments to make community relations event successful.
