It's Your Move
Business opportunities of moderate to even light complexity often expose decision makers to hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of coordinated decision options that should be considered thoughtfully before making resource commitments. That complexity is just overwhelming! Unfortunately, the typical response is either analysis paralysis or "shooting from the hip," both of which expose decision makers to unnecessary loss of value and risk. This tutorial teaches decision makers how to tame option complexity to develop creative, valuable decision strategies that range from "mild to wild" with three simple thinking tools.

There are two types of decision making: involuntary and voluntary. Involuntary decisions are made out of habit and are automatic, having been learned over time. Voluntary decisions take more time and consideration of pros and cons as they depend on specific situations, goals, people involved, and occasions. Both types of decisions can be influenced by outside factors like incentives, hidden persuaders in media, credible sources, authority figures, and peer pressure. Most of the time, people learn from their decisions about what works and doesn't.

- The thrill of uncertainty and not knowing when or how much they will win drives some people to keep gambling. The rewards of winning give them a thrill and make them feel good.
- Entrapment causes some players to feel like they can't escape and become determined to continue gambling to recoup losses, convincing themselves they will win with the next round.
- Most people who gamble do not experience problems because they only spend money they can afford and see it as entertainment, whereas problem gamblers feel they have lost more than they can comfortably afford and cannot control how much time or money they spend gambling.

Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.
