- Ayman al-Zawahiri, leader of al-Qaeda, has authored a new book titled "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner" which recounts his life and involvement in militant Islamist groups.
- The book was smuggled from an Afghan cave to Peshawar and then London for publication. It covers Zawahiri's early years in militant groups in Egypt in the 1960s up until recent US bombing in Afghanistan.
- Zawahiri presents his views and accounts of controversial issues and disputes within militant groups. He also discusses the religious ruling allowing attacks on Americans and signing onto al-Qaeda's statement against "Jews and Crusaders".
