Prof. Svetlana Schazova, PhD (Education), Chief Librarian of the International Gymnasium of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre; Professor of the Moscow state Institute of culture, speaks of library services, information and educational resources, available online to support school librarians' professional development in the Russian Federation.
ABSTRACT
The school libraries system of the Russian Federation is the largest library union in the Country.
85 subordinate entities of the Russian Federation together have more than 41,000 school libraries for 16,100,000 learners in 2019. Strategies for improving the quality of Russian main education are assigned to the basic elements of the educational system, which include school libraries - a binding upon department of the school area. Prioritized tasks of student information support are defined in Russian national projects and high level standards.
The network of school libraries is managed through regional educational development institutions. Methodological and consulting assistance for school library management departments is provided through the Information Center of the Russian Academy of Education of the Russian Federation. Objectively, there is inequality in the quality of management of regional information and methodological centers.
The consolidated efforts of school library communities and federal and regional education management departments will help to overcome administrative, technological, and personnel barriers.
A modern school library is able to provide every learner and teacher with opportunities to deepen knowledge of school subjects, develop intellectual and creative abilities of learners, help in choosing research ways and methods, study and improve knowledge of cultures and languages of Russia and the world.

The paper is intended to discuss the significance of the national retrospective analytical bibliography in scientific and cultural history studies. The C series of the publication "Lithuanian Bibliography", which registers the publications of Lithuanian periodicals and continuing publications, was chosen as the object of the research. At the beginning of the article, the adaptation of national bibliography data in social sciences and humanities studies is discussed, and short statistics on foreign countries preparing national bibliography are presented. Below is an overview of the historical development of the national retrospective bibliography in Lithuania and the activities and contribution of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in the preparation of publications of this series, discusses the structure and chronological scope of national retrospective analytical bibliography publications, principles of selection of publications, classification system, technological changes in the publication of national retrospective bibliography.
Bibliographical data sources for history of science in Baltic countriesBirute Railiene
In few centuries bibliographical data has changed from lists and bibliographies to multilevel metadata records, linking information worldwide. Though the general idea of tracing, describing and sorting information initially remained for the benefit or a user, still intending to “save the time of the reader” (Ranganathan, Five Laws of Library Science).
Isights are based on the cataloguing practises, which reveal metadata for historical investigation of science: personal bibliography, research advising in PhD, institutional affiliation in research, etc.
Bibliographical databases of major research institutions and universities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are presented, introducing and discussing ways of integrating relevant entries from national bibliographies into a new open-access international initiative.

For centuries, Uzbekistan has been known as a scientific, commercial and cultural center in the center of the East and a region at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road. During the historical period, the cultural heritage of the Uzbek people was taken abroad for various reasons, which later led to the formation of collections in world-famous libraries and museums under the name of Central Asia. Many travelers and scientists were interested in the geographical location, nature, customs, industries of the region, organized various expeditions and published scientific works. This article provides information about the activities of scientists, travelers and photographers who came to Central Asia from the second half of the XIX century, the process of formation of collections by Jannat Khamidovna Ismailova 2020. We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The map views are useful for providing a geographical representation of data. They allow users to visualize and analyze the data in a more intuitive manner.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

3. A brief history of UC Berkeley and Doe Library
The University of California at Berkeley was
established as the flagship campus of the Campus
in 1868.
The Doe Memorial Library building was
completed in 1911and holds our major portion of
Russian, Central Asian and Eastern European
collections in both Social Sciences and Humanities disciplines.
The other important repository of materials related to Russia and
the Far East are the East Asian and Biosciences libraries.
Currently, there are more than 10 million books in the UC
Berkeley Library. In Doe Library, we have 5,500 current
periodicals titles from all regions of the world.
4. History of Russian Collections
• The major impetus to the development of Russian collections came after
the World War II as the Area Studies librarianship evolved.
• Initially the focus was to acquire the printed books and periodicals from the
Soviet Union and the other Soviet bloc countries. However, as the
collection grew, the focus also shifted on acquiring materials that were
published in the 19th century Russian Empire.
• The interest in the Far East of Russia, Siberia, Central Asia and China has
been always at the heart of the collection development at UC Berkeley due
to its location on the Pacific Rim of the United States.
• The current focus is also on collecting comprehensively materials that are
published in Russia on China and Sino-Russian, Sino-Soviet relations.
• I also focus on collecting Russian Émigré publications from Chinese cities
such as Harbin, Shanghai, etc.
• I plan to collect extensively Uighur language materials in future.
5. Russian language collections
• As of June 1, 2013, we have in our holdings a total of 237,098
monographic titles and 6,867 serial titles in Russian.
6. Electronic Databases in Russian Collection at UC Berkeley
• At UC Berkeley, as a part of Russian collections, I subscribe to various online full-
text article databases. Some important examples are Izvestiia Archive (1917-2012),
Literaturnaia Gazeta Archive (1929-2011), Pravda Digital Archive (1912-2011).
• The Stalin Digital Archive is a result of collaboration between the Russian State
Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI) and Yale University Press (YUP)
to create an electronic database of finding aids, to digitize documents and images,
and to publish in different forms and media materials from the recently declassified
Stalin archive in the holdings of RGASPI.
7. Russian Materials Acquisitions
• Vendors of Russian Materials in Russia, Europe and the United
States- MIPP Books, East View, RUSKNIGA, RUDOMINO,
BENRAN, etc.
• Russian Book Exchanges at UC Berkeley account for 40% of
acquisitions activity. Exchanges include serials exchanges and barter
monographic exchanges with institutions in the Russian Federation.
For example, Russian State Library, ANSO (Academy of Sciences-
Sibirksoe Otdelenie).
• Exchanges with the other US and Canadian Institutions through
SLAVIC Librarians group.

12. Collaborative collection development for Russian and other Eastern European
materials
• UC Berkeley – Stanford Collaborative Collection
Development for Russian and East European Collection.
Reasons:
Geographical proximity,
Non-duplication of academic research level publication,
Dedicated budgets for each country of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Ability to provide regional focus. For example, UC Berkeley Library focuses on
collecting anything published on China, Japan and Korea in Russia and the former
Eastern bloc countries. Stanford focuses on collecting the Caucasus related
materials.
