Cable sizing to withstand short circuit currentLeonardo ENERGY
In a cable a short circuit causes very extreme stresses which are proportional to the square of the current:
• A temperature rise in the conducting components subjected to current flow such as conductor, screen, metal sheath, armour. Indirectly the temperature of adjoining insulation and protective covers also increases,
• electro-magnetic forces between the current-carrying components.
The temperature rise is important for its effect on ageing, heat pressure characteristics etc., and should be limited to a permissible short-circuit temperature. The thermo-mechanical effects of the current shall also be considered.
For a given short-circuit duty therefore the short-circuit capacity of a cable installation is to be investigated with respect to all these parameters. For multi-core cables in most instances the thermal effect - related to the magnitude of fault current and clearance time - is the critical parameter, since the cable will normally have enough mechanical strength. With single-core cables however, in addition, the mechanical effect - related to the magnitude of the peak short-circuit current - is of such significance that, next to the thermal, the mechanical with- stand of both cable and its supports is to be investigated.
Also accessories must be rated with respect to thermal and mechanical short-circuit stresses.
The short-circuit withstand of a cable system is not quantitatively defined with regard to permissible number of repeated short circuits, degree of deformation or destruction or impairment quality. It is expected, however, that a cable installation will remain safe in operation and that any deformation remains within tolerable limits even after several short circuits.

Cable Conductor Sizing for Minimum Life Cycle CostLeonardo ENERGY
Energy prices are high and expected to rise. All CO2 emissions are being scrutinized by regulators as well as by public opinion. As a result, energy management has become a key factor in almost every business. To get the most out of each kilowatt-hour, appliances must be carefully evaluated for their energy efficiency.
It is an often overlooked fact that electrical energy gets lost in both end-use and in the supply system (cables, busbars, transformers, etc.). Every cable has resistance, so part of the electrical energy that it carries is dissipated as heat and is lost.
Such energy losses can be reduced by increasing the cross section of the copper conductor in a cable or busbar. Obviously, the conductor size cannot be increased endlessly. The objective should be the economic and/or environmental optimum. What is the optimal cross section necessary to maximize the Return on Investment (ROI) and minimize the Net Present Value (NPV) and/or the Life Cycle Cost (LCC)?
This paper will demonstrate that the maximizing of the ROI results in a cross section that is far larger than which technical standards prescribe. Those standards are based entirely on safety and certain power quality aspects. This means there is room for improvement—a great deal of improvement in fact.
Cable Lugs and Terminals are electrical connectors used for connecting or terminating electrical cables to electrical appliances, transformers, junction boxes, control panels, etc. Connectors are also used for joining two power cables together. A lug has two ends, a tubular end through which cable is inserted and a flattened end which is bolted to the appliance or surface. After cable insertion, the lug can be crimped with a crimping tool or soldered or welded. Lugs come in different sizes corresponding to cable size and sizes are marked on the palm area of the lug. Suitable tool and die set is used to crimp them to cable or wire. The terminal ends are usually made of copper or aluminium and comes in different sizes and current carrying capacities. Proper care has to be taken and selection done according to low voltage or medium voltage requirements.

Manual Two provides the switching operator with information on the transmission network configuration, apparatus and switching operations. This manual covers the transmission network associated with the Pilbara Grid. It should be noted that this Manual must be used in conjunction with Manual One Sections 8 and 9, as these sections are applicable to both transmission and distribution switching.
Manual One provides the switching operator with information on the distribution network configuration, apparatus and switching operations. The manual covers the distribution network associated with microgrid and Pilbara Grid systems.
Both manuals are intended to be used as a resource for all switching operators and also a major resource for the training modules in Switching Operations.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.
