Internet Connection and FTP Capability:
Of course, an Internet connection is required to participate in this online course. If you have a high speed connection
it is preferable to dial-up access. If you only have dial-up access you can still get by, but patience is a virtue when
waiting for files to download.
We will be creating a Web site over the semester and it will be necessary to FTP files to a Web server here at Boise
State University. Dreamweaver uploads and downloads files through FTP (File Transfer Protocol). If you plan to work
from a school or business location it may be necessary to request help from your network administrator. Sometimes
FTP is blocked. Please be prepared for this possibility so that you can either get help or find a different place to do
your assignments.
Alternative Web Site Space:
Typically, we provide Web site space for students on the EDTECH2 server. However, sometimes things go wrong with
the server or students are unable to FTP to it. This has sometimes been an issue for students who are outside of the
United States. Please be prepared to obtain alternative Web site space if necessary. You may already have Web site
space as part of the Internet Service Provider subscription you are using. Free, or inexpensive Web site hosting is also
quite easy to find.
Hardware:
As with an internet connection, a computer is required for this course. It is everybody's responsibility to ensure that
they have a working computer to complete their lessons. To help ease any worries, having a back up plan (in case
there are computer troubles that will take more than a week to repair), is always recommended.
Software Discounts
Students and educators are eligible for discounts for certain software. Two places you can purchase software at a
discount are: BSU Bookstore and Academic Superstore. Check here before purchasing any software such as
Dreamweaver. I personally use Academic Superstore for my software discounts. I have found that they have some of
the best prices. All you will need to do is provide Acadmic Superstore with proof that you are a student.
You may find that one of the Adobe Creative Suite packages is a better deal than buying titles separately. You
get more for your money. For example, the Adobe CS4 Web Standard includes Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and
Flash for less money than buying all three individually. Currently, Flash is taught in EDTECH 574.
Assignments & Projects
The assignments for EdTech 502 include discussions, curriculum development for the Internet, and a final project.
(Any additions to the assignments and projects will be noted during the weekly assignment postings.)

Late Assignments
Due Dates: Please note that all assignment due dates fall on Tuesdays. Assignments must be submitted by midnight
Mountain time on scheduled due dates. For time zone information please visit the World Clock Web site:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
Point Deduction for Late Work: Ten points are deducted for each day an assignment is late. For example, an
assignment that is two days late will lose 20 points as a late penalty.
Emergency Pass: If you have a major event such as a death in the family, illness, hospitalization, or you are out of
town without Internet, you may turn in one assignment under the emergency pass. This assignment may be up to one
week late and still qualify for full credit. After the one week extension has passed ten points per day will be deducted
until the assignment is no longer worth any credit.
Your Responsibility with Late Work: If you will be late for any reason please e-mail the instructor at on or before
the scheduled due date. When the assignment is completed you must send a follow-up email to let the instructor
know it is ready to grade. This is how we calculate the number of days for the late work penalty. Failure to notify the
instructor could lead to a grade of zero.
Please Avoid End of Course Late Work: Please note that we work under University deadlines for submitting grades
at the end of the semester. If you have an assignment that is late at the end of the semester there is a chance that it
might not be in on time to make the deadline. In this situation, I have no choice but to grade whatever I have at that
time and submit grades regardless of the late policy above. Please try to avoid this situation.
Plan Your Time: It is a good idea to schedule specific times to work on your assignments each week and keep the
appointment with yourself. A three credit graduate course requires about 9 to 12 hours per week of work (This
doubles during compressed summer sessions.) It is in your best interest to start early on each assignment to give
yourself time to fix technical problems or get help before the due date passes. Assignments not submitted by the due
date are subject to late penalties so please plan ahead to avoid a midnight time crunch.
Technical Difficulties : On occasion, you may experience problems with accessing Blackboard or class files located
within Blackboard, with your Internet service, and/or other computer related problems. Do make me aware if a
technical problem prevents you from completing coursework within a reasonable amount of time. It is recommended
not to wait more than 24 hours to report a technical issue. If a problem occurs on our end, such as Blackboard or
EDTECH2 server failure, then an automatic due date extension is granted.
Advanced Copies of Assignments

6. Blackboard Academic Suite
Assignments will not be handed out more than a few days in advance. Often times a lesson can be changed prior to
posting. This policy is to ensure that you always have the most accurate information available to you.
Reasonable Accomodations
Any student who feels s/he may need accommodations based on the impact of a disability should contact me privately
to discuss your specific needs. You will also need to contact the Disability Resource Center at 208-426-1583 located in
the Administration Building, room 114 to meet with a specialist and coordinate reasonable accommodations for any
documented disability.
Academic Honesty
For this course, we will be adhering to the BSU Student Code of Conduct along with generally accepted Fair Use
Policies for Instructors. We will also observe U.S. copyright laws in this course. Several great links to copyright
information are available on the BSU Academic Technologies site at: http://itc.boisestate.edu/resource.htm
According to the BSU Student Code of Conduct: "Cheating or plagiarism in any form is unacceptable. The University
functions to promote the cognitive and psychosocial development of all students. Therefore, all work submitted by a
student must represent her/his own ideas, concepts, and current understanding. Academic dishonesty also includes
submitting substantial portions of the same academic course work to more than one course for credit without prior
permission of the instructor(s)."
For this course the following standards will be used:
All students are expected to create original works for each assignment. Projects and papers written for other
courses should not be reused for this class. To fairly assess each student, original work is needed in order to
assure everybody is receiving the most out of the class and that the concepts are understood.
All project text should be original text written by each student. Any content that is referenced or has small
amounts of material quoted should be cited.
Images or other media used in projects should be original, used with permission, or come from public domain.
Terms and conditions for usage should be checked before being used.
Please cite the source for materials that are obtained for your projects unless they are created by you. If
permission is granted for use of copyrighted materials please post a statement explaining that near those
materials.
In the event of academic dishonesty a complaint is filed with the BSU Student Conduct Office with supporting
documentation. This complaint remains on file and actions may be taken against the student (e.g., loss or credit,
reduction in grade, etc.).
Conceptual Framework
College of Education - The Professional Educator
Boise State University strives to develop knowledgeable educators who integrate complex roles and dispositions in the
service of diverse communities of learners. Believing that all children, adolescents, and adults can learn, educators
dedicate themselves to supporting that learning. Using effective approaches that promote high levels of student
achievement, educators create environments that prepare learners to be citizens who contribute to a complex world.
Educators serve learners as reflective practitioners, scholars and artists, problem solvers, and partners.
