20 people have responded to my general survey on (music magazines, hobbies,
music genes and much more) This gives me enough information to help me with
my Indie genre music magazine)
I decided that this would be a suitable question to ask in my survey because it helps me
decide how many times my music magazine would be published and in this case I think
I would publish my magazine monthly because 90% of responders only buy 0-2
magazines a month and this might reflect the target audience they come from and what
they can afford.
I asked the question about
what peoples preferred
music genre to listen too
and as I expected
Pop/chart music is the
must listened to music as
40% people listen to this
music genre. I was
surprised that about 17%
of the people listened to
Indie music and this is
what I want my magazine
to be based on the Indie
genre.
Q2
I wanted to make
sure I knew how
much generally
people are
comfortable
paying for
magazines. And
from this about
84% of people
only spend about
0-£3 a month on
magazines. I think
the people that
spend more
money will be for
specialist
magazines. This
could be due to
the audience who
answered the
survey.
Q3
I wanted to know
about the
different
technologies
people use on a
daily basis
because this could
be the reason they
don’t buy may
magazines
because in fact
they are reading
articles online.
Q4
Q5
I decided to ask the gender of the survey takers because I wanted to see if people's
genders influence their choices when it comes to what music they listen too and what
music magazines they buy, and if females buy more music magazines then males or if
they spend more on magazines. In this survey their was 17 women who took this
survey and only 3 men which makes it quite uneven.
Q6
I asked the question of
what age are the people
who answered the
magazine and I thought
this was important
because I need to see if
the target audience of
teenagers were the
ones who answered it
and the majority of
them was and this
reflects why they only
bought a few magazines
a month and how much
money they spend on
magazines because they
are only a young age. So
this is something I am
going to consider when
deciding the price and
publication of my
magazine.
Q7
I asked the survey
takers what hobbies
they take part in and I
made this a multiple
answer question so
they could answer
more than one
answer. I wanted to
see if their hobbies
would have an
influence in their
music choices and
what they enjoy
listening to and what
the purchase. A lot of
the responses were
that they compete in
arts and this could be
to do with music and
dance.
Q8
The majority of people that answered the survey responded that they do not read music
magazines and this could be because most of the people who answered the survey were women
and the most of the people who responded were under 17’s so this could have an effect on
them reading music magazines and because of the technologies I have found out they own this
could be another reason why the don’t buy and read music magazines but in fact they read
them online and if they want the gossip on music artists they could check social networking
sites.
Q9
Only 7 people out of the 20 who answered the survey actually responded to this question. It
gives me some ideas as to what people like to see featured in music magazines so these could
possible be things I could include in my magazine to make it appealing and suitable for my
target audience.
Q 10
I asked the question of what social networking sites they all use and Facebook is the most popular and then
followed by Twitter. This could be the reason they don’t buy music magazines because they can just check
social networking sites whenever they want and check up on the artists and this is more convenient for
them because they do not have to pay for the app as these apps are all free on their smartphones as they
have to go out and pay for a magazine. Also music magazines are only about specific artists every month or
whenever they are published but on the social networking sites they can focus on whatever artist they want
whenever it suits them.
