1. How did you use media technologies in the
construction, research, planning and
evaluation stage?
MOBILE PHONE : This was key due to the fact that it was instrumental in keeping in
contact with the cast, crew. It was also vital when organising location and the times of
meeting.
Additionally, the mobile phones was also very useful as members in the group who had
blackberry messenger were able to broadcast the link to the video to all of their contacts.
INTERNET: The internet in terms of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter
etc. where very important as they were used to further help get and contact cast and crew
members. These sites were also useful when recruiting cast members in the video and
when planning to look at locations on Google maps. Also Wordpress, I used this site to
upload and update my research and planning stage.
COMPUTER: This was fundamental as it was used to create questionnaire’s (Post
production research) ,treatments, call sheets & risk assessments, this was useful as this is
vital pre-planning before making the product . I also had to use a computer to look at
locations on the internet.
IPOD: This was useful as it was needed to play the music while filming to make sure the
artist was totally in sync with his song when performing. Also, when writing the
treatment, this was needed to listen to the lyrics our artist was saying.
2. Internet – This proved to be key due to the fact that for
research into the codes and conventions in my artists genre, I
used YouTube and Hotnewhiphop to look at many other
music videos in the genre. This was important as my main
product was to be uploaded to YouTube when completed
also.
Magazine Advert – I used the search engine Google to
look at other artists in my artist’s genre and recognise the
codes and conventions in these adverts. Looking at well
known artists magazine adverts helped me recognise what
was needed to help my magazine advert promote my main
product successfully.
CD Album covers – I used the search engine Google
along with my own knowledge of existing products to look at
codes & conventions of CD covers in my artists genre. This
research was important as I needed to make sure my product
conformed to conventions so that the front cover was
recognizable as a hip-hop/rap front cover.
3. Digital Camera & Tripod: I used this to film the entire video at a good standard and used the
tripod to stand the camera up when filming. I manipulated the height of the tripod and the angles I
held the camera to get different angles and shots throughout constructing the video
SLR Camera: I used a SLR camera to take photos of my artist for my CD album cover, CD booklet
and my magazine advert. I used this camera as it was professional as the pictures I took were high
quality.
Adobe Photoshop Cs4: I used this software to edit and manipulate my photos so that they
conform to codes & conventions prior to putting the photos on my ancillary texts.
Adobe InDesign CS4: I used this software to construct and produce my CD album cover, CD
booklet and a magazine advert. I also used this software to add text to the ancillary texts I made in
adobe Photoshop CS4.
Final Cut Pro: I used this software to edit the filming I did with the digital camera to construct my
music video. As I was a novice to this software, I had to develop my editing skills in order to produce a
final product which was of a certain quality standard for my audience.
Hard-drive: This was used to store all the filming captured from the tape used when filming the
music video. It was vital this was not lost and that we kept it safe when using it.
