Before the laws were instituted, victims of rape were required to prove in a court of justice that they were indeed victims and not willing participants to the occurrence. It was thus easy for a defendant in a rape case to prove that his accuser was a willing participant. All that a defense team had to do in such a case to show the plaintiff's consent of the occurrence was to produce evidence regarding the victim’s sexual predisposition and sexual behavior before the incident took place. The defendant would then embark on a strategy that proves that the alleged victim asked for it or consented to it. However, the defense tactic that was initially permissible by the law to victimize victims for the second time. The defense tactic added to the emotional torture that the victim has suffered during the rape ordeal, by publicly presenting her in a courtroom where members of the public would scrutinize her, whereas, for obvious reasons, it would have been best for the victim's identity to remain anonymous. Therefore, instead of coming forward to report their aggressors and let justice be served, they choose not to report the incidence in order to stay out of the public eye. Given the detrimental experiences that rape victims went through before the ratification of the laws, this paper aims at proving that the Rape Shield laws play a significant role in the criminal justice system.
The reason that prompts me to write on this topic is that I had never heard of the rape shield laws until recently. I also hold a position in the United States Army as a Sexual Harassment Assault and Prevention Response Coordinator. In the position, I work with rape and sexual assault victims. In addition, my interest in the topic is prompted by the fact that rape is prevalent in today's society and that most of the time we as the society tend to blame the victim for being raped. I strongly feel that nobody’s past should hold him or her accountable for another person’s actions.
Rape Shield laws are policies meant to protect the victims of sexual violence such as rape during court proceedings. They have very limited exceptions in allowing a defendant to introduce evidence of the victim's past sexual behavior, history, and reputation as their defense strategy. The laws also prohibit the publication of the alleged rape victim's identity. The purpose of the laws is to protect the victim from emotional distress that emanates from being cross-examined on their past sexual behavior on the witness stand. Previously, courts have ruled that a victim’s sexual history had little relevance to defense teams and in fact, it amplifies the victim's humiliation[footnoteRef:1]. · After learning about the character in the Parker Family case study, imagine that you were the school social worker. Which indicators would you have looked for and why.
There were several indicators discussed in the Parker Family video. The fact that she was a teenager, depressed, and had a lack of family support are three factors that stood out to me. “Suicide among adolescents continues to be a national concern, with over 1,900 children in the United States under the age of 20 dying by suicide annually” (Miers, Abbott, & Springer, 2012). She was also displaying signs of being depressed with her friends by losing interest in activities. This is a big indicator for possible suicide because she isn’t thinking clearly. Finally, after the attempted suicide, not only is she prone to try again but her family didn’t seem to care and acted like everything was fine. Her cry for help was not heard.
· How would you have responded to each of those indicators?
If I knew she was depressed I would have tried to get her in to see her doctor and possibly suggest an antidepressant. With the lack of family support, she could do individual counseling and group therapy to listen to other survivors of attempted suicide and work on an outside support system for herself.
· What kinds of questions would you have asked and why?
I would ask Stephanie about what kinds of things make her sad and happy. Also asking about what she does to help cope with stressful situations. Being able to learn how cope with stress can help to create healthy habits later on.

There were several indicators discussed in the Parker Family video. The fact that she was a teenager, depressed, and had a lack of family support are three factors that stood out to me. “Suicide among adolescents continues to be a national concern, with over 1,900 children in the United States under the age of 20 dying by suicide annually” (Miers, Abbott, & Springer, 2012). She was also displaying signs of being depressed with her friends by losing interest in activities. This is a big indicator for possible suicide because she isn’t thinking clearly. Finally, after the attempted suicide, not only is she prone to try again but her family didn’t seem to care and acted like everything was fine. Her cry for help was not heard.
· How would you have responded to each of those indicators?
If I knew she was depressed I would have tried to get her in to see her doctor and possibly suggest an antidepressant. With the lack of family support, she could do individual counseling and group therapy to listen to other survivors of attempted suicide and work on an outside support system for herself.

I would ask Stephanie about what kinds of things make her sad and happy. Also asking about what she does to help cope with stressful situations. Being able to learn how cope with stress can help to create healthy habits later on.

I. Introduction
In this paper I will be discussing the racial barriers and the injustices that go on in law enforcement. I will be giving details on the different racial disparities that many people as well as police officers face. When it comes to racial disparities it's not only a black and white issue, but law enforcement is also filled with different cultures and there are many people who are mistreated and targeted. Police brutality is a big issue as well and from this issue a lot of lives have been taken from mistakes police officers have made. Lastly, I will discuss the many barriers' women face in law enforcement, women are sometimes look passed and harassed and this is a not much popular issue people like to talk about.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace.
