- The company I want to talk about is Overleaf. It is a Private company funded in 2012 in London. Reasons: I have used it a lot when writing course project report easily collaborate with teammates Also, don’t need to setup LaTeX environment
- The problem Overleaf aims to solve is that: Writing scientific papers are NOT EASY! To be specific, you need to setup the LaTeX environment first And team collaboration on a paper is always a problem
- And there is the PRODUCT of Overleaf: An Online Collaborative LaTeX Editor Solve: Online -> no setup environment Collaborative -> group of people can work on the same paper Collaborative -> convenient for peer reviewing and leaving comments
- The persona I choose is Professor Clarke: Professor Clarke is running a summer research program with 8 students He wants a platform that enabled them to collaborate and give feedback easily And Overleaf is a perfect platform for his team
- Here is the FINANCIAL INFO of Overleaf It has an estimated revenue of 14 million dollar Although it is still private, the growth of it’s users indicates Overleaf is profitable As you can see in here: drastically increased after 2017 reaches 6 million users by 2020 Indicating people
- Here is the BUSSINESS MODEL of Overleaf Overleaf makes profits from Individual users (such as Researchers, Students) & Institution Subscriptions (Universities & Companies) As most of the individual Users are using the Base Plan (Free) Most incomes are from Institutions using the platform Seems to be an disadvantage but in fact increases user numbers (talk later)
