This document outlines tasks for student teams to create content for the redesigned AIMS website. It explains that each of 5 teams will be responsible for one of the AIMS centers, creating landing page text, a 2-minute virtual tour video, and a 2-minute interview video with the center's director. Additionally, each team will interview an upper-level IMS student about a class project. All content is due on a specified date for in-class review. Teams are instructed to borrow quality cameras and not use phones for video capture.
2. So here’s the deal…
• One of the AIMS capstone classes is re-
coding/re-designing the AIMS website.
• Their problem: they took a big bite; it needs to
look professional and well conceived, but
there’s just so much to cover
• Enter us. We’re going to do some content
work.
3. We will…
• Provide design-ready copy, photos and some
video
• Offer advice as to how that content should
work
• Be professional and attentive
• Be quick and accurate, but we WILL NOT
sacrifice quality
4. We will not…
• Serve as a dumping ground for failed capstone
tasks
• Code. We might send them things in a nice
CSS/HTML package, but it’s not our job to do
the coding here.
• Cut corners.
5. Our tasks
For those of you familiar with AIMS, there are a
number of “centers” that work within the AIMS
infrastructure:
- Games and Learning
- Miami Design Collaborative
- The Mobile Learning Center
- Smale Interactive Visualization Center
- The Usability Center
6. Form 5 Teams
Your teams will have 4-5 members. Make sure you
have at least one person with the following skills in
your group:
1) Someone who can organize/coordinate
2) Someone who is outgoing and can interview/can
bug people at times to get the information you
need
3) Someone good with a camera
4) Someone good with video editing
5) Someone good with copy writing/copy editing
7. Each team
When you form your team, email me the names
of all the team members as well as your team
name (you’ll be making that up, obviously).
In that email, give me your first/second/third
choice of centers (in order). I will do my best to
make sure no one gets stuck with one they hate.
8. Your task
Each team will create the following:
1) The landing page text (and perhaps some
pictures) for the center (from the AIMS main
page)
2) A 1-2 minute “virtual tour” that shows off the
space/what is done there (or the work the
center does if it’s not a physical space)
3) A 1-2 minute “What we do” video made by
editing interview footage with the center’s
director or main contact.
9. Your task
Each team will also create the following:
1) Find an upper level (junior or senior) IMS
Major.
2) Ask him/her to talk to you about a specific
assignment from a specific class, showing you
(if they can) the project.
3) This should be 1-3 min. Think of these as a
“so this is what you do in AIMS” meets
“What is X class about” moment.
10. This stuff is due…
X, 2015
We will workshop it in class (meaning view all the
video and offer comments/quickly look over the
copy) on X, 2015.
Make sure you use quality equipment for your data
capture. You can borrow cameras (from the library,
from AIMS over in Laws Hall). DON’T USE YOUR
PHONE! The sound will be terrible.
