4. Who would be the audience
   for yourmedia product?

We have done a lot of research into the audience starting with Google search into Drama
films to a questionnaire which we considered and tried to aim the audience as widely as we
can because in the end too niche of an audience would affect the sales and distribution.

-Our target audience would be teenagers to young
adults, mainly female as the main character is
relatable to them but males may enjoy is just as
much depending on their taste and if the character
was the kind of girl they liked to see on the screen.
-The audience we are trying to appeal to would
probably watch situation comedies, reality television
and common easily relatable films possibly British.
-The audience that would be interested in watching
our film would listen to all kinds of music, different
diversities from rock to classical. I think we created
something that represents us all; our whole group
was very keen on choosing the right track with the
right atmosphere and the right tone to it to
represent our character and what she is like and
what she brings to the scenery.
                                        - The people that would buy our final product would
be from working to middle social class that typically
would wear casual clothes on day to day bases nothing extra ordinary. Clothing that would
be mainstream and relatable, nothing scruffy yet nothing that looks like she has just came
out of a saloon with brand new flashy fashion.

The people that we showed our opening to were hitting the audience criteria and all of
them engaged in the film and started caring for the character as the video went on, which is
exactly the reaction we wanted.
5. How did you
 attract/address the audience?
In the questionnaire and from our own experience we found that there has to be a
number of different things which will attract the audience and therefor make a good film:

Relatable characters and good actors
I have talked about this in the last question and I cannot stress
enough how important this is for the audience to relate, for example
in ‘Marley and me’ we see a relationship between a dog and a
human with a growing family, film about normal people living their
life and we all and are displeased at the fact that the Golden
Retriever dies which was what the producers wanted. They wanted
to produce a memorable film that will stick in the watcher’s mind
and they in my opinion have done a good job. All directors and
producers want to attract the audience, want them to laugh and cry
and to be remembered and this is exactly
what we wanted to aim for. We were not
discouraged by the fact that we did not have
a budget or Hollywood behind our backs, we
still were able to ‘employ’ a wonderful
actress (we paid her with sausage rolls and
sweets) and make a good use of the
equipment we had. She is relatable because
she is ordinary, she blends in with the crowd
and she has a dream/target in life.

Cliff hanger
Is a great convention used by all genres, from
action adventure to documentaries. We used
this convention effectively and in the video
responses we hear that it was something that
attracted the audience and made them want
to watch on more leaving them with a bitter
sweet feeling. When the second character
steps into the shot and pats Elizabeth to get
her attention, the tension rises to its fullest, the music stops and our main actress turns
around before we cut for long enough to see her surprised face. I think the build-up of
tension over the sequence has worked to our advantage, and no dialogue has also left an
empty canvas for the audience’s imagination that runs wild and searchers for all the
reasoning.

Good storyline, originality and similarities with other movies
Our storyline was of course fictional and we came up with it
as a group after we figured out the genre and before we
started to think about the perfect actress. A good action
filled storyline is a key to a good movie and without it the
audience quickly lose interest. I am afraid that the concept of
a runaway is not original but the fact that she is meeting a
virtual stranger and has family problems is unique in a
combination. We have not yet established a movie that
would be like Elizabeth’s story yet ‘Keith’ was relatable and
made me think of ‘Across the Bridge’, this
made me very interested in and bumped into
by accident when looking through drama
movies. The girl lives in America gets ready in
the morning and drowns in the crowd in
school, nothing extraordinary and if we cut
the opening at 2:30 we are left with a clip
hunger maybe not as tension filed but a cliff
                                                 hanger none the less.

Editing
I think fast and slow pace in editing have a huge role in how the audience perceives your
story. We could have series of different shots and angles when filming a man’s trip to the
bin and we could make it the most epic trip of his life just by fast pace editing, music from
an action movie and slow motion. It is all about how we deliver our footage and quite
frankly we would not be able to achieve many things without good software. This is one
convention that is very little talked about and noticed by people that are not from the film
industry. I definitely think by making the editing our priority has paid off and made out
opening what we see
today, something that we
have tried to perfect over
4 months.

Music
As you can see on our blog
we had many struggles with music after not being able to use copy righted music. Also the
digetic sound made us very nervous since the non-digetic sound in the second part was so
distinguishable. And I think many films have the same problem, making sure that everything
matches up to the image. One of our greatest prides is sound and how it affects the
audience, it attracts them and draws them in, without need of a dialogue. Many of us travel
and we do not talk to anyone on our journey we are focused on our target location, which
for her was the unknown.
