This document provides learning targets, reading instructions, and comprehension questions for a poem called "To An Athlete Dying Young". Students are asked to analyze diction, imagery, tone and theme by marking words related to death, images, and unfamiliar terms. They will then answer questions about which lines from the poem were referenced in another work and most appropriately memorialize the subject's death. Finally, students are to explain why references to the poem and planting a laurel oak tree are suitable tributes.
