The Earth has several layers including an inner and outer core made of hot metals, a thick mantle of hot rock, a thin crust that supports life, a lithosphere consisting of crust and top mantle that is rigid, and an asthenosphere of softer rock below. The lithosphere breaks into tectonic plates.
