fter an excel-
lent Asia
Cup, Team
India has re-
sumed its
tussle with Australia in a
3-match preparatory series
ahead of the World Cup.
As the two teams fine tune
their World Cup resources,
India goes into the series
with most of their bases
covered which showed in
the first ODI itself. Team
India sealed a comfortable
5 wicket victory despite
half their first choice elev-
en being rested!
The welcome addition of
wily off-spinner Ravi Ash-
win, drafted in the squad
for the Aussie series due to
Axar Patel’s thigh injury, is
an important pick. He
brings in a wealth of expe-
rience along with pedigree
and if eventually included
in the World Cup squad,
Ashwin could provide the
much-needed variety that
the Indian spin attack
lacked at the Asia Cup.
The historic demolition
of Sri Lanka at the Asia
Cup final, where India
bundled them out for just
50 runs, brought joy to
millions of Indian fans.
Moreover, it was a reassur-
ance that all key players
were now fit and in decent
form for the ODI World
Cup. Through the tourna-
ment, it was a show of total
dominance by the Indians.
Now, the India-Australia
series is ideal preparation
for both sides who are top
contenders for the World
Cup to hone their skills
barely a fortnight before
their showdown at the
marquee event on 8th Oc-
tober in Chennai.
The Aussie ODIs also
give a breather for some
mega stars like Rohit Shar-
ma and Virat Kohli and en-
able Team India to check
its bench strength. For the
first ODI, India rested the
star of the Asia Cup final
Mohammad Siraj but still
bowled out Australia for
276 after winning the toss
on a flat deck in Mohali.
Later, they comfortably
chased down the target ow-
ing to a century-plus open-
ing stand between Ruturaj
Gaikwad and Shubhman
Gill. But it was the Surya-
Rahul partnership that will
put smiles on Indian team
management’s faces. After
a mild wobble where India
lost 4 wickets for just 43
runs after the opening
stand, Suryakumar Yadav
curbed his free flowing
stroke play to hit a respon-
sible fifty to go along with
Rahul’s unbeaten half cen-
tury as India cantered to a
comfortable win.
Earlier, Shami bowled
an incisive spell and
grabbed 5 wickets while
Ashwin bowled economi-
cally giving away 47 and
picking up 1 wicket. Jasprit
Bumrah too looked sharp
and will be a crucial cog in
the Indian attack for the
World Cup. The Aussie
batters were circumspect to
start the innings with
Warner and Smith consoli-
dating after Mitchell
Marsh’s early wicket.
While Warner hit a fifty,
Smith fell on 41, bowled
by a Shami special. It was
an aggressive cameo at the
end by Pat Cummins that
took their total beyond 250.
The 3 matches of the se-
ries will be played out in
six days. In such a scenar-
io, it is imperative that both
teams balance rest and
gametime for their players
as the World Cup begins
just days after the current
series ends. Many key
players from Australia are
returning to action after in-
juries. Captain Pat Cum-
mins, Steve Smith and
Mitchell Starc are back in
the team and Maxwell is all
set to join the side later in
the week. But the Aussies
will miss the services of
their destructive left-hand
batsman,Travis Head, who
fractured his hand and
might miss the entireWorld
Cup!
For Team India, Axar
Patel’s thigh injury is a ma-
jor concern. It has opened
the door for Ashwin and
Washington Sundar to re-
turn to the ODI team and
prove their usefulness for
the World Cup. Through
their presence, Team India
can have the much-needed
variation as off-spinners
can play a vital role espe-
cially against batting sides
with several left-handers.
In addition, both Ashwin
and Sundar are fine batters
in the lower order. Kuldeep
and Jadeja are in good form
but they will need support
from a quality third spinner
if India gets turning tracks
in World Cup games.

its poor showing in the Assembly election Kumaras-
wamy may not have the option to pressurize BJP for
more seats. He should accept what’s being offered.
The news of the BJP-JD(S) alliance drew a sharp

nion Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s deci-

over stapled visas to athletes fromArunachal Pradesh
is the snub which China deserves for its stubbornness
over an integral part of India. The External Affairs
Ministry called China’s act “discrimination” in a “tar-
geted and premeditated manner”. India has lodged
strong protests in New Delhi and Beijing over Chi-
na’s “deliberate and selective obstruction of some of
our sportspersons”.
China wrongfully claims Arunachal Pradesh as its
territory and has de-
nied regular visas to
athletes from
Arunachal in the past
too. A regular visa
would mean recogni-
tion to Arunachal.

three wushu players-

from Arunachal have
been discriminated
against earlier too.
On the one hand
China issues worthless stapled visas to sportspersons
fromArunachal and on the other it adopts aggressive
postures like infrastructure buildup close to the north-
eastern state’s border. Last year a Strategic Policy
Institute ofAustralia warned that the “PLA(People’s
Liberation Army) can now access key locations on
the Yangtze plateau more easily than it could have
just one year ago”. Yangtze is strategically located in
the Tawang sector of Arunachal. A physical clash
between PLA soldiers and those from the Indian
army at Yangtze left several soldiers injured in 2022.
India, however, keeps a hawk’s eyes on its borders.

4.46 LAKH MISSING CHILDREN FOUND SINCE 2015,
MOST REUNITED WITH FAMILIES: SMRITI IRANI
New Delhi: Most of the 4.46 lakh missing children
found since 2015 have been reunited with their
families, Women and Child Development Minister
Smriti Irani said on Saturday. Speaking at the inaugural
session of the national annual stakeholders consultation
on children in conflict with law, she said the children were
found through the ministry's Khoya Paya portal, launched
in 2015. Today, we can proudly say that close to 4,46,000
missing children have been found, of which 3,97,530 chil-
dren have been successfully matched and reunited with
their families, she said. Ms Irani said since the amend-
ment of the Juvenile Justice Act in 2021, under which
district magistrates instead of courts have been given the
responsibility to issue adoption orders, as many as 2,600
children have been adopted. Irani warned stakeholders
against profiteering from institutionalising children, saying,
If profit becomes the core of our efforts, then many chil-
dren will not find the loving homes they deserve.

‘SPECIALAGENDA'OFSPECIALSESSIONWASALLDECIDEDINADVANCE
hen it was announced to
hold a special session of
Parliament from 18th to
22nd September, the opposition
parties had no clue as to what would
ultimately happen in this special
session. Because whenever such a
special session is called, an agenda
is prepared by the ruling party after
talking to all the parties. So, Sonia
Gandhi wrote a letter to the PM,
and in it she demanded discus-
sion on 9 major issues like inflation,
unemployment, China and Adani.
Taking immediate action on this, the
government released a list of eight
bills including Post Office Bill, Media
Institutions Registration Bill, Senior
Citizens Welfare Bill, Advocate Bill,
which were to be brought in this
special session. But there was no
mention of the government's trump
card, the Women's Reservation Bill.
This special session of 5 days ended
in just four days, the session started
from the old Parliament on 18th and
the proceedings shifted to the new
Parliament building on the next day
on 19th. 'Nari Shakti Vandan Bill' was
introduced in the new Parliament and
it was passed on 20 September. BJP
is considering this as a big victory for
itself. On the other hand, the second
phase of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat
Jodo Yatra' is going to pass mostly
through the Hindi belt, where OBC
politics rules the roost and Con-
gress openly discussed on it in its
CWC meeting in Hyderabad. Talking
about OBC politics, the party has
said that 'it will consider 50 per cent
reservation limit.' There are around
45 per cent OBC voters across the
country, in the Hindi belt this percent-
age increases to 54 per cent. For
example, the number of OBC voters
is 61 percent in Bihar, 48 percent in
Rajasthan, 45 percent in Chhattisgarh
and 43 percent in Madhya Pradesh.

fiercely attacked the BJP

Prime Minister Narendra
Modi turned Parliament
into an exhibition center

called at the inauguration

this is not an insult to the

Earlier, when Ramnath

sidered untouchable. If
the foundation stone had

Attacking the Central
govt over the Women’s

said that Modi got nerv-
ous as soon as the I.N.D.I.
alliance was formed and
has brought this bill for
the sake of votes, but
talks about implementing
it in 2030. “At that time
neither Modi nor the rest
of the BJP will be there.

make a fashion statement.
The Infinity Twist
The Infinity Twist is a stylish
and effortless way to wear a
scarf. Start by folding your
scarf in half to create a loop.
Then, drape the loop around
your neck, leaving one end
longer than the other. Take
the longer end and thread it
through the loop, creating a
twist. Repeat this step as
many times as you desire to
achieve the desired look. The
result is a chic and visually
appealing accessory that
adds a touch of elegance to
any outfit.
The Waterfall Knot
The Waterfall Knot is a
unique way to showcase your
scarf’s texture and design.
Begin by loosely wrapping
the scarf around your neck,
leaving one end significantly
longer than the other. Take
the longer end and make a
simple knot with the shorter
end near your shoulder. Now,
take the longer end and pull
it through the knot, creating
a waterfall-like effect.Adjust
the knot and the scarf’s drape
to achieve your desired look.
This method is perfect for
showcasing a patterned or
textured scarf.
The Bow Tie
For a playful and feminine
look, consider tying your
scarf into a bow. Start by
draping the scarf around your
neck, leaving both ends
hanging evenly. Cross the
ends over each other and tie
them into a basic shoelace
knot, just as you would when
tying your shoes. Adjust the
loops and ends to create a
beautiful bow. This style
works exceptionally well
with silk or satin scarves and
adds a touch of whimsy to
your outfit.
The Belted Shawl
Transform your scarf into a
chic shawl by using a belt.
First, drape the scarf over
your shoulders like a shawl
or cape. Then, cinch it at the
waist with a stylish belt. This
method is not only fashiona-
ble but also practical, as it
keeps you warm and adds a
layer of sophistication to
your ensemble. You can ex-
periment with different scarf
sizes and belt styles to create
various looks, from casual to
formal.
The Headscarf Wrap
Don’t limit your scarves to
just neckwear; they can also
be versatile head accessories.
To achieve the Headscarf
Wrap, fold your scarf into a
triangular shape and place
the longest edge on your
forehead. Tie the two ends of
the scarf at the nape of your
neck, securing it in place.
You can leave the tails hang-
ing down your back for a bo-
hemian look or tuck them
under the scarf for a more
streamlined appearance. This
style is perfect for adding a
pop of colour to your outfit
and protecting your hair
from the elements.
Scarves are not just practi-
cal items to keep you warm;
they are also powerful fash-
ion accessories that can ele-
vate your style and make a
statement. Experiment with
these five unique ways to tie
a scarf, and you’ll dis-
cover a world of possi-
bilities to enhance
your outfits and ex-
press your personality.
Whether you choose
the Infinity Twist for
elegance or the Bow
Tie for playfulness,
scarves are a canvas for
your creativity, allow-
ing you to showcase
your unique sense of
style. So, next time
you reach for a
scarf, remember
that there’s more
to it than the
standard loop-
and-knot – you
have the
power to
turn it into
a fashion
master-
piece.

eaders remember
the famous
James Bond film
‘Octopussy’ re-
leased in 1983?
Well, that was
shot in our very own land in In-
dia’s Udaipur, in one of the iconic
palace turned hotel Taj Lake Pal-
ace.
Walking down the history lane,
Lake Palace was built by Maha-
rana Jagat Singh II in 1743 as a
pleasure palace and named it as
Jag Niwas . The palace was com-
pleted by 1746 and since then it
stands tall in the middle of the
Pichola lake with a view of the
City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Ma-
chla Magra Hills and Jag Mandir.
Upon arrival at the Udaipur air-
port, I was greeted by their chauf-
feur and was driven to the Badi Pal
Jetty where I was welcomed like
royalty.
Cruise towards the marble
beauty was short and scenic. As I
stepped out of the boat the Durban
received me with an ornate um-
brella. There was a rain of
petals showered on me as
I climbed up the gleam-
ing staircase making it
an enchanting expe-
rience.
I was hosted at
The Sajjan Niwas
Suite which was
personally used by
the Maharana Saj-
jan Singh built in
1880. The suite has
hosted some eminent
personalities like
Queen Elizabeth, Jackie
Kennedy , Mick Jagger of
Rolling Stones fame and the
Shah of Iran.
As I stepped into this opulent
suite , the exuberant Rajput style
leaps out from every nook and cor-
ner of the suite .An almost six-foot
chandelier lamp is standing tall in
the corner, plush traditional rugs,
colorful marble inlay skirting the
walls, miniature paintings , glass
mosaic inlay, marble floorings,
gorgeous wall mounted and table
lamps, furniture, sophisticated
mirrors, mirrored doors, royal
family portraits transported me to
the regal era .
The balcony of the suite over-
looks the palace’s courtyard,
where traditional dancers and mu-
sicians even now perform every
evening.
During the day time I was bask-
ing in the sun and counting my
blessings.
The other side of the balcony
overlooks the lake and a mighty
laid back breakfast with a spec-
tacular view of the Aravalli could
be a wonderful idea during your
stay in that suite .
The Maharana’s love for art and
craft is prominent in the suite. Two
heavy blue velvet punkah hang
from the ceiling which were used
to cool rooms from centuries ago
and now it’s run on electricity and
can be operated with the switches
like our new age fans.
Murals and frescoes depicting
Lord Krishna in the bedroom and
intricate mirror work on the ceil-
ing , an antique swing makes it a
romantic ambience, crystal chan-
deliers in the living area all echoes
the richness of Indian history.
The gorgeous chandeliers in the
suite were commissioned from
Belgium by the ruler. However ,
the Maharana died before the
lights reached Udaipur and were
never opened by the royal family
who feared it would bring bad
luck. It was three or four genera-
tions later that the chandeliers
were unpacked and kept in the
Maharana’s favorite suite , “the
Sajjan Niwas Suite” .
The marble bathroom with a
separate shower with wooden
cabinets, giant mirrors , another
glorious chandelier makes you
soak in royalty.
The palace’s court-
yards, gardens , foun-
tains, pillared terraces,
the black and white
marble walls
adorned by semi-
precious stones and
ornamented niches
made it an alluring
stay.
You can antici-
pate to be spoilt with
choices of cuisines at
their three restaurants.
Neel Kamal is an authen-
tic Rajasthani and Indian
cuisine restaurant overlooking
the picturesque lily pond, there is
the seasonal ( depending on the
weather ) open-air rooftop restau-
rant Bhairo for contemporary Eu-
ropean delicacies which offers
views around the palace and over-
look the sparkling waters of the
Lake, Jharokha which serves mul-
ti cuisine overlooking the lake and
the city palace .
AtAmrit Sagar you can indulge
in a selection of vintage wines,
spirits and cigars at this ravishing
sea of nectar which used to be the
original baithak of the Maharana .
I immersed myself in a calm,
slow-paced environment without
the constraint of time, spending a
couple of hours in a state of rev-
erie, letting my mind wander in the
150 years old majestic royal Gan-
gaur boat sipping some rejuvenat-
ing moctail, relishing sumptuous
delicacies from a live grill, cold
snacks and an array of dessert dur-
ing my royal boat ride. The royal
butlers are the descendants of the
original palace attendants .
Mr. K Mohanchandran, then
Area Director Rajasthan IHCL
and GM Taj Lake Palace and now
Senior Vice President of IHCL
Northeast India, Andaman, Bhu-
tan and Nepal has been an incred-
ible host and ensured I had the
perfect opportunity to learn about
a region’s history while being sur-
rounded by the countless ameni-
ties and top-notch services.
The 62nd custodian of the
House of Mewar used the pleasure
palace as a summer retreat for
their family until they handed over
their management toTaj(IHCL) in
1971. It’s been 53 years since Taj
group is keeping the flag flying
high for Indian palace traditions
by maintaining imitable standards
in hospitality and regality simulta-
neously.
I could live a fairytale fantasy
because of the benevolent hotelier
Mr. Puneet Chhatwal- MD IHCL
, at the prestigious palace property
for being a true patron of IHCL
and a writer. He’s an Angel to the
entire Indian Hospitality Industry.
He’s known for his exquisite aes-
thetics, and predilection for pa-
nache.
Before my departure,I decided
to allow myself moments of pure
contemplation.So, I took a short
boat ride to their floating boat spa.
On board is an air conditioned
double spa suite, lounge to un-
wind, steam room and shower, and
on the deck was a gigantic bath
tub, day bed and all of this made a
perfect platform for mental and
physical regeneration, a beautiful
catharsis for me.
So,what are you waiting for?
Pack your bags and indulge in
some royalty!

  • 4. fter an excel- lent Asia Cup, Team India has re- sumed its tussle with Australia in a 3-match preparatory series ahead of the World Cup. As the two teams fine tune their World Cup resources, India goes into the series with most of their bases covered which showed in the first ODI itself. Team India sealed a comfortable 5 wicket victory despite half their first choice elev- en being rested! The welcome addition of wily off-spinner Ravi Ash- win, drafted in the squad for the Aussie series due to Axar Patel’s thigh injury, is an important pick. He brings in a wealth of expe- rience along with pedigree and if eventually included in the World Cup squad, Ashwin could provide the much-needed variety that the Indian spin attack lacked at the Asia Cup. The historic demolition of Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup final, where India bundled them out for just 50 runs, brought joy to millions of Indian fans. Moreover, it was a reassur- ance that all key players were now fit and in decent form for the ODI World Cup. Through the tourna- ment, it was a show of total dominance by the Indians. Now, the India-Australia series is ideal preparation for both sides who are top contenders for the World Cup to hone their skills barely a fortnight before their showdown at the marquee event on 8th Oc- tober in Chennai. The Aussie ODIs also give a breather for some mega stars like Rohit Shar- ma and Virat Kohli and en- able Team India to check its bench strength. For the first ODI, India rested the star of the Asia Cup final Mohammad Siraj but still bowled out Australia for 276 after winning the toss on a flat deck in Mohali. Later, they comfortably chased down the target ow- ing to a century-plus open- ing stand between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubhman Gill. But it was the Surya- Rahul partnership that will put smiles on Indian team management’s faces. After a mild wobble where India lost 4 wickets for just 43 runs after the opening stand, Suryakumar Yadav curbed his free flowing stroke play to hit a respon- sible fifty to go along with Rahul’s unbeaten half cen- tury as India cantered to a comfortable win. Earlier, Shami bowled an incisive spell and grabbed 5 wickets while Ashwin bowled economi- cally giving away 47 and picking up 1 wicket. Jasprit Bumrah too looked sharp and will be a crucial cog in the Indian attack for the World Cup. The Aussie batters were circumspect to start the innings with Warner and Smith consoli- dating after Mitchell Marsh’s early wicket. While Warner hit a fifty, Smith fell on 41, bowled by a Shami special. It was an aggressive cameo at the end by Pat Cummins that took their total beyond 250. The 3 matches of the se- ries will be played out in six days. In such a scenar- io, it is imperative that both teams balance rest and gametime for their players as the World Cup begins just days after the current series ends. Many key players from Australia are returning to action after in- juries. Captain Pat Cum- mins, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc are back in the team and Maxwell is all set to join the side later in the week. But the Aussies will miss the services of their destructive left-hand batsman,Travis Head, who fractured his hand and might miss the entireWorld Cup! For Team India, Axar Patel’s thigh injury is a ma- jor concern. It has opened the door for Ashwin and Washington Sundar to re- turn to the ODI team and prove their usefulness for the World Cup. Through their presence, Team India can have the much-needed variation as off-spinners can play a vital role espe- cially against batting sides with several left-handers. In addition, both Ashwin and Sundar are fine batters in the lower order. Kuldeep and Jadeja are in good form but they will need support from a quality third spinner if India gets turning tracks in World Cup games. H nion Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s deci- sion to cancel his trip to Hangzhou in China for the Asian Games’ opening ceremony over stapled visas to athletes fromArunachal Pradesh is the snub which China deserves for its stubbornness over an integral part of India. The External Affairs Ministry called China’s act “discrimination” in a “tar- geted and premeditated manner”. India has lodged strong protests in New Delhi and Beijing over Chi- na’s “deliberate and selective obstruction of some of our sportspersons”. China wrongfully claims Arunachal Pradesh as its territory and has de- nied regular visas to athletes from Arunachal in the past too. A regular visa would mean recogni- tion to Arunachal. This time the issue of stapled visa, an un- stamped piece of pa- perstapledtopassport whichcanbedetached at will, came up when three wushu players- --Nyeman Wangshu, Onulu Tega and Me- pung Lamgu---were preventedfromboard- ing the flight. People from Arunachal have been discriminated against earlier too. On the one hand China issues worthless stapled visas to sportspersons fromArunachal and on the other it adopts aggressive postures like infrastructure buildup close to the north- eastern state’s border. Last year a Strategic Policy Institute ofAustralia warned that the “PLA(People’s Liberation Army) can now access key locations on the Yangtze plateau more easily than it could have just one year ago”. Yangtze is strategically located in the Tawang sector of Arunachal. A physical clash between PLA soldiers and those from the Indian army at Yangtze left several soldiers injured in 2022. India, however, keeps a hawk’s eyes on its borders. U Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s decision to cancel his trip to Hangzhou in China for the Asian Games’ opening ceremony over stapled visas to athletes from Arunachal Pradesh is the snub which China deserves for its stubbornness over an integral part of India A Even by the lowest standards of the Congress Party, this is a pathetic mindset. This is nothing but an insult to the aspirations of 140 crore Indians. In any case, this isn’t the first time Congress is anti-Parliament. They tried in 1975 and it failed miserably. Because whenever such a special session is called, an agenda is prepared by the ruling party after talking to all the parties. So, Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to the PM, and in it she demanded discus- sion on 9 major issues like inflation, unemployment, China and Adani. Taking immediate action on this, the government released a list of eight bills including Post Office Bill, Media Institutions Registration Bill, Senior Citizens Welfare Bill, Advocate Bill, which were to be brought in this special session. But there was no mention of the government's trump card, the Women's Reservation Bill. This special session of 5 days ended in just four days, the session started from the old Parliament on 18th and the proceedings shifted to the new Parliament building on the next day on 19th. 'Nari Shakti Vandan Bill' was introduced in the new Parliament and it was passed on 20 September. BJP is considering this as a big victory for itself. On the other hand, the second phase of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' is going to pass mostly through the Hindi belt, where OBC politics rules the roost and Con- gress openly discussed on it in its CWC meeting in Hyderabad. Talking about OBC politics, the party has said that 'it will consider 50 per cent reservation limit.' There are around 45 per cent OBC voters across the country, in the Hindi belt this percent- age increases to 54 per cent. For example, the number of OBC voters is 61 percent in Bihar, 48 percent in Rajasthan, 45 percent in Chhattisgarh and 43 percent in Madhya Pradesh. D I W WHY DIDN'T NITISH AGREE? Meanwhile Ramnath Kovind went to Patna and had dinner at Nitish's house. While the traditional loop- and-knot method is classic and functional, there’s a world of creative possibili- ties when it comes to scarf tying. In this article, we will explore five unique ways to tie a scarf that can instantly transform your outfit and make a fashion statement. The Infinity Twist The Infinity Twist is a stylish and effortless way to wear a scarf. Start by folding your scarf in half to create a loop. Then, drape the loop around your neck, leaving one end longer than the other. Take the longer end and thread it through the loop, creating a twist. Repeat this step as many times as you desire to achieve the desired look. The result is a chic and visually appealing accessory that adds a touch of elegance to any outfit. The Waterfall Knot The Waterfall Knot is a unique way to showcase your scarf’s texture and design. Begin by loosely wrapping the scarf around your neck, leaving one end significantly longer than the other. Take the longer end and make a simple knot with the shorter end near your shoulder. Now, take the longer end and pull it through the knot, creating a waterfall-like effect.Adjust the knot and the scarf’s drape to achieve your desired look. This method is perfect for showcasing a patterned or textured scarf. The Bow Tie For a playful and feminine look, consider tying your scarf into a bow. Start by draping the scarf around your neck, leaving both ends hanging evenly. Cross the ends over each other and tie them into a basic shoelace knot, just as you would when tying your shoes. Adjust the loops and ends to create a beautiful bow. This style works exceptionally well with silk or satin scarves and adds a touch of whimsy to your outfit. The Belted Shawl Transform your scarf into a chic shawl by using a belt. First, drape the scarf over your shoulders like a shawl or cape. Then, cinch it at the waist with a stylish belt. This method is not only fashiona- ble but also practical, as it keeps you warm and adds a layer of sophistication to your ensemble. You can ex- periment with different scarf sizes and belt styles to create various looks, from casual to formal. The Headscarf Wrap Don’t limit your scarves to just neckwear; they can also be versatile head accessories. To achieve the Headscarf Wrap, fold your scarf into a triangular shape and place the longest edge on your forehead. Tie the two ends of the scarf at the nape of your neck, securing it in place. You can leave the tails hang- ing down your back for a bo- hemian look or tuck them under the scarf for a more streamlined appearance. This style is perfect for adding a pop of colour to your outfit and protecting your hair from the elements. Scarves are not just practi- cal items to keep you warm; they are also powerful fash- ion accessories that can ele- vate your style and make a statement. Experiment with these five unique ways to tie a scarf, and you’ll dis- cover a world of possi- bilities to enhance your outfits and ex- press your personality. Whether you choose the Infinity Twist for elegance or the Bow Tie for playfulness, scarves are a canvas for your creativity, allow- ing you to showcase your unique sense of style. So, next time you reach for a scarf, remember that there’s more to it than the standard loop- and-knot – you have the power to turn it into a fashion master- piece. Your Page JAIPUR, SUNDAY | SEPTEMBER 24, 2023 10 firstindia.co.in firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur thefirstindia thefirstindia thefirstindia eaders remember the famous James Bond film ‘Octopussy’ re- leased in 1983? Well, that was shot in our very own land in In- dia’s Udaipur, in one of the iconic palace turned hotel Taj Lake Pal- ace. Walking down the history lane, Lake Palace was built by Maha- rana Jagat Singh II in 1743 as a pleasure palace and named it as Jag Niwas . The palace was com- pleted by 1746 and since then it stands tall in the middle of the Pichola lake with a view of the City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Ma- chla Magra Hills and Jag Mandir. Upon arrival at the Udaipur air- port, I was greeted by their chauf- feur and was driven to the Badi Pal Jetty where I was welcomed like royalty. Cruise towards the marble beauty was short and scenic. As I stepped out of the boat the Durban received me with an ornate um- brella. There was a rain of petals showered on me as I climbed up the gleam- ing staircase making it an enchanting expe- rience. I was hosted at The Sajjan Niwas Suite which was personally used by the Maharana Saj- jan Singh built in 1880. The suite has hosted some eminent personalities like Queen Elizabeth, Jackie Kennedy , Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones fame and the Shah of Iran. As I stepped into this opulent suite , the exuberant Rajput style leaps out from every nook and cor- ner of the suite .An almost six-foot chandelier lamp is standing tall in the corner, plush traditional rugs, colorful marble inlay skirting the walls, miniature paintings , glass mosaic inlay, marble floorings, gorgeous wall mounted and table lamps, furniture, sophisticated mirrors, mirrored doors, royal family portraits transported me to the regal era . The balcony of the suite over- looks the palace’s courtyard, where traditional dancers and mu- sicians even now perform every evening. During the day time I was bask- ing in the sun and counting my blessings. The other side of the balcony overlooks the lake and a mighty laid back breakfast with a spec- tacular view of the Aravalli could be a wonderful idea during your stay in that suite . The Maharana’s love for art and craft is prominent in the suite. Two heavy blue velvet punkah hang from the ceiling which were used to cool rooms from centuries ago and now it’s run on electricity and can be operated with the switches like our new age fans. Murals and frescoes depicting Lord Krishna in the bedroom and intricate mirror work on the ceil- ing , an antique swing makes it a romantic ambience, crystal chan- deliers in the living area all echoes the richness of Indian history. The gorgeous chandeliers in the suite were commissioned from Belgium by the ruler. However , the Maharana died before the lights reached Udaipur and were never opened by the royal family who feared it would bring bad luck. It was three or four genera- tions later that the chandeliers were unpacked and kept in the Maharana’s favorite suite , “the Sajjan Niwas Suite” . The marble bathroom with a separate shower with wooden cabinets, giant mirrors , another glorious chandelier makes you soak in royalty. The palace’s court- yards, gardens , foun- tains, pillared terraces, the black and white marble walls adorned by semi- precious stones and ornamented niches made it an alluring stay. You can antici- pate to be spoilt with choices of cuisines at their three restaurants. Neel Kamal is an authen- tic Rajasthani and Indian cuisine restaurant overlooking the picturesque lily pond, there is the seasonal ( depending on the weather ) open-air rooftop restau- rant Bhairo for contemporary Eu- ropean delicacies which offers views around the palace and over- look the sparkling waters of the Lake, Jharokha which serves mul- ti cuisine overlooking the lake and the city palace . AtAmrit Sagar you can indulge in a selection of vintage wines, spirits and cigars at this ravishing sea of nectar which used to be the original baithak of the Maharana . I immersed myself in a calm, slow-paced environment without the constraint of time, spending a couple of hours in a state of rev- erie, letting my mind wander in the 150 years old majestic royal Gan- gaur boat sipping some rejuvenat- ing moctail, relishing sumptuous delicacies from a live grill, cold snacks and an array of dessert dur- ing my royal boat ride. The royal butlers are the descendants of the original palace attendants . Mr. K Mohanchandran, then Area Director Rajasthan IHCL and GM Taj Lake Palace and now Senior Vice President of IHCL Northeast India, Andaman, Bhu- tan and Nepal has been an incred- ible host and ensured I had the perfect opportunity to learn about a region’s history while being sur- rounded by the countless ameni- ties and top-notch services. The 62nd custodian of the House of Mewar used the pleasure palace as a summer retreat for their family until they handed over their management toTaj(IHCL) in 1971. It’s been 53 years since Taj group is keeping the flag flying high for Indian palace traditions by maintaining imitable standards in hospitality and regality simulta- neously. I could live a fairytale fantasy because of the benevolent hotelier Mr. Puneet Chhatwal- MD IHCL , at the prestigious palace property for being a true patron of IHCL and a writer. He’s an Angel to the entire Indian Hospitality Industry. He’s known for his exquisite aes- thetics, and predilection for pa- nache. Before my departure,I decided to allow myself moments of pure contemplation. So, I took a short boat ride to their floating boat spa. On board is an air conditioned double spa suite, lounge to un- wind, steam room and shower, and on the deck was a gigantic bath tub, day bed and all of this made a perfect platform for mental and physical regeneration, a beautiful catharsis for me.
