Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Shashikant Sharma
rime minister
Narendra Modi
was the first
chief minister
of Gujarat to
have ruled for
more than 12 continuous
years. The way he has
completed eight years in
office of prime minister,
he looks set to surpass
Jawahar Lal Nehru, who
has the distinction of be-
ing at the highest position
for close to 17 years. He
may have served half the
tenure than Nehru but his
achievements have placed
him among the most pow-
erful politicians in the
world. Be it handling glob-
al pandemic like Covid-19
or Russia-Ukraine war,
Modi has emerged as an
undisputed towering
world leader whom the
entire globe looks upon.
The supremacy of India
was strongly felt in every
spectrum with Modi lead-
ing the light.
At home also, Modi en-
sured a safe and strong
country for Indians with
mitigating all kinds of
threats from neighbours.
For that the role of his
‘ManFriday’AmitShahis
significant. Not only as
the country’s home minis-
ter but also as the princi-
pal strategist, trouble
shooter and Chanakya of

an invincible political
force. The duo compli-

well that even the strong-
est of their detractors
can’tseeanyonereplacing
them in near future.
It’s Modi and Shah that
make “double engine” ki
sarkar, which has put the
country on the high accel-
erator belt.
The country, which
came out of the throes of
deadly Covid-19, is back
on the growth path with
an aim to achieve the $5
trillion economy. Modi’s
mantra sabka saath sabka
vikas has started doing
the trick for the country
.
It’s the sheer charisma
of Modi that the economy
which saw growth for the
first time in four decades
in the Covid-hit 2020, is
now estimated to grow at
8.9 per cent in 2021 fol-
lowed by another growth
wave of 8.2% in 2022. Modi
has strengthened the pil-
lars of economy so that
even the impact of Russia

ARYAN KHAN
GETS A CLEAN
CHIT FROM NCB,
BUT TRAUMA
WILL HAUNT HIM
fter he was put in jail
for 20 days the Nar-
cotics Control Bu-
reau has given actor
Shah Rukh Khan’s
son Aryan Khan a clean chit.
The NCB has stated in its final
charge-sheet that no drug was
found on the person of the Bol-
lywood actor’s son. Five others
who were nabbed along with
Aryan on October 2, 2021 in the
infamous raid on a cruise ship
headed from Mumbai to Goa
have also been let off. From the
very outset the arrest of Aryan
was being looked at as a gross
misuse of power by a certain
NCB officer who led the raid was
later shunted out. The case was
thentransferredtoaDelhi-based
Special Investigation Team.
The NCB asserted that the SIT
carried out the probe in an ob-
jective manner which must be
appreciated but the trauma of
Aryan Khan and the officer who
was the cause of it is not being
mentioned. Some accountabili-
ty has to be fixed.
A
ihar Chief Minis-
ter Nitish Kumar
has once again
raised the ticklish
issue of caste cen-
sus to stump the Bharatiya
Janata party
. Opposition par-
ties like the Rashtriya Janata
Dal are also of the view that
a caste census is much need-
ed in the country. Last year
Tejashvi Yadav of the RJD
hadgoneontoaskthat“when
animals and plants are count-
ed, what is the problem in
counting humans”? He based
his argument on the Mandal
Commission report which,
when made public by former
Prime Minister VP Singh
more than 30 years ago, in-
formed the people about dif-
ferent castes in the country.
Tejashvi wanted to know
why caste-based census can-
not be done and how welfare
schemes can be implemented
without scientific data on
caste census.
Nitish Kumar recently an-
nounced that his government
would start work on caste
census after consulting all
parties. A date for an all-par-
ty meet to arrive at a consen-
sus on the sensitive issue is
yet to be decided. Not all par-
ties, especially the BJP, are
open to the idea of Nitish
who had led a delegation to
meet the Prime Minister on
the issue. The BJP is main-
taining an ambivalent ap-
proach. The Centre is op-
posed to the move on the
ground that it may cause di-
visions in society
.
The Mandal report saw the
rise of caste-based politics
and job reservations. While a
caste-based census would
help in better implementa-
tion of affirmative action, it
may also deepen the caste
divide. With politics driven
by castes, meeting the aspira-
tions of various caste groups
would be a tall order for the
government.
NITISH PLAYS CASTE
CENSUS CARD AGAIN
Nitish Kumar recently
announced that his
government would start
work on caste census
after consulting all
parties. A date for an all-
party meet to arrive
at a consensus on the
sensitive issue is yet
to be decided
B
t gives me great pride as In-
dian to say that India is the
only country in the world
that liberated Bangladesh
with surrender of fully
armed one Lakh Pakistani
troops in just 14 days. Even
super powers have failed to
do that. The war in Ukraine
has gone beyond 80 days,
much against the expecta-
tions of the world and cer-
tainly, that of Russia.
WHOWINS,WHOCARES!!
Every nation state has so far
played the game to it’s nation-
al interest. The US set up the
Ukraine conflict way back,
with Eastward expansion of
NATO. Ukraine has been
made the sacrificial lamb to
weaken Russia and deplete
the threat to Europe and
NATO. Initially, they lured
Ukraine away from Russia,
almost instigated Putin and
when Russia attacked, no
NATOandEUmember joined
hands to defend Ukraine. A
scan of major players in this
game and their aim to benefit
fromthiswararediscussedin
the succeeding narrative.
UKRAINE
The biggest loser in this war
will be Ukraine only
. Ukraine
could not understand the
games of western countries
and played along till the gal-
lows. Unfortunately, it‘s still
going along the garden path.
Whosoever wins, Ukraine
will be severely mauled.
Zelensky is being foolhardy
by pressing on against Russia
at the behest of NATO. When
USA and NATO did not come
to defend him against Rus-
sian aggression, he should
have understood their game
and saved the destruction of
his country
. If the war esca-
lates to weapons of mass de-
struction, Ukraine will find
itself at ground ZERO.
Apart from major influx of
weapons, war equipment and
logistics aid, large number of
mercenaries are operating in
Ukraine. After the war, these
will find their way to terror-
ist organizations and
Ukraine with weak adminis-
tration will provide safe
sanctuaries, for terrorists.
RUSSIA
Russia claims itself to be the
politicalheirandsuccessorof
the USSR. After Crimea War
in2014,unabletodefenditself,
Ukraine started romancing
with NATO, which irked Rus-
sia and hence Putin invaded
Ukraine. Russia has acted in
it’s national interest before
the enemy knocks at it’s door.
Russia had predicted to
wrap up Ukraine war by
swift blitzkrieg operations
resultingindefeatof Ukraine
forces and surrender of
Zelensky Govt. Unfortunate-
ly, that did not happen and
the war is now dragged to al-
most three months without
tangible gains. Russia is now
looking for a face saving exit.
If USA and Europe corner
Putin, he may well use weap-
ons of mass destruction.
This may lead to a riposte
from the West and likely to
snowball into a larger nucle-
ar confrontation.
USA NATO
It’s interesting to note that
America has never fought a
war on it’s own soil. Destruc-
tion of Ukraine is a small
price for it in it’s quest for
‘The Superpower tag’. They
have managed to weaken
their primary foe (Russia),
since cold war days, without
firing a bullet from it’s soil.
Ukraine is just part of collat-
eral damage for them, which
they really don’t care.
Economic Sanctions are
double edged weapons. After
the initial fall, ruble is rising
again. Russia and friendly
countries are finding alter-
native to SWIFT banking
system. Russia is using oil,
gas and gold as weapons
against sanctions. Europe
also has been hit with record
inflation and energy crisis.
CHINA
China is maintaining neutral
stance and it has not openly
sided with Russia. When
Russia is back to wall and will
request China for financial
and military help, PRC will
extract it’s pound of flesh, for
the help at that time. It’s also
keenly watching US and
NATO reaction to Russian in-
vasion, before it makes up it’s
mind on annexation of Tai-
wan. Prolonged war is in fa-
vour of China, so that USA
and Europe exhaust them-
selves in Ukraine, thereby
helping China to catapult it-
self to center stage of world
politics.
INDIA
India has taken a path of
principled neutrality
. So far,
India has been able to tread
this thin line with great fi-
nesse. It’s because of suc-
cessful diplomacy by India
that foreign dignitaries from
all over the world are making
a bee line to New Delhi. It’s a
matter of pride that every-
one wants India to play an
active role in mediation and
help to end the war, as soon
as possible.
PM Narendra Modi is
master at converting threats
into opportunities. He has
kept India’s national inter-
ests supreme. Firstly, he
evacuated Indians from
Ukraine with perfection, got
fuel at reduced rates and
also enhanced the image of
the country, during this cri-
sis. He has won accolades
even from Prime Minister of
Pakistan. India is all set to
play a pivotal role in the
world geopolitics, post
Ukraine war.
CONCLUSION
The Russian invasion in
Ukraine isn’t just Russian
and Ukrainian affair. Moreo-
ver, the rest of the world is
also adversely affected be-
cause of Russian invasion
and Western sanctions on
Russia. It has the potential to
escalate to nuclear holocaust.
Certainly, it will reshape the
global landscape and a new
world order will emerge post
Ukraine war.

Lucknow: Chief Min-
ister Yogi Adityanath
on Friday slammed
leader of opposition
Akhilesh Yadav over
his false campaign on
farmers’ issues and his
reluctance to accept the
“success” of the double
engine government.
The “double engine”
government, he said, is
“working at triple
speed”.
Speaking on the mo-
tion of thanks on the
Governor’s address, CM
Yogi listed the achieve-
ments of his previous
government,comparing
them with the one led
earlier by Akhilesh Ya-
dav’s Samajwadi Party
.
He ridiculed the op-
position leader for
blaming EVMs for the
SP’s defeat. “If they
win, everything is al-
right. But if the BJP
wins, there is some
fault with the EVMs,”
Yogi said. “This is an
insult to the people.”
Without naming
Mamata Banerjee, CM
Yogi recalled her visit
to the state during the
UP campaign. “A ‘didi’
from West Bengal came
in support of the Sama-
jwadi Party in the elec-
tions,” he said, adding
that “12,000 incidents of
violence” were report-
ed from 142 of the 294
assembly seats in West
Bengal and a large
number of BJP workers
targeted. “The popula-
tion of West Bengal is

SHIVPAL
Lucknow (PTI): Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath on
Friday praised Shivpal Singh
Yadav, drawing a retort from
his nephew Akhilesh Yadav,
who said the CM has “a lot
of concern for his uncle”.
Adityanath’s praise for the
senior leader came a day
after Shivpal praised the
CM for being “honest and
hardworking”. Adityanath
praised and thanked Shivpal
Yadav for distributing
tablets and smartphones in
his Jaswantnagar Assembly
constituency. Adityanath
referred to the socialist
leader as Shivpal ji. Taking
a swipe at Akhilesh, the
CM said, “How much you
talk of socialism; the fact is
that you have transformed
socialism into a mirage.
Whenever there is a talk
about socialism, Dr Lohia
and Jayprakash Narayan
are discussed. Nowadays,
occasionally I see Sahivpal
ji’s writing on Dr Lohia. You
need to read about
Dr Lohia.”

WE STARTED
IMPLEMENTING
NEW MANTRAS
OF GOOD
GOVERNANCE..
New Delhi: PM Modi on Friday stated that eight years ago his authorities
started implementing new mantras of good governance in India following the
trail of minimal authorities – most governance. “This was the time eight years
ago when we started implementing new mantras of good governance in India.
Following the path of minimum government, and maximum governance, we
have made ease of living, and ease of doing business a priority. We connected
every citizen of the country with the facilities and welfare schemes by moving
forward on the path of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas‘,” he said.

Turtuk: As many as
seven Indian Army sol-
diers lost their lives af-
ter the bus they were
travelling in skidded
off the road and fell in
the Shyok river in the
Turtuk sector of
Ladakh on Friday.
There were 26 soldiers
in the bus, which was
moving from the Tran-
sit Camp in Partapur to
a forward location in
sub-sector Hanif.
The accident took
place at 9 am around 25
km from Thoise. The
bus fell to a depth of
around 50-60 feet, re-
sulting in injuries to
all occupants. The
Army officials further
informed that the in-
jured were evacuated
to the 403 Field Hospi-
tal at Partapur and
surgical teams from
Leh have moved to Par-
tapur.
Mumbai: A Special In-
vestigation Team of the
Narcotics Control Bu-
reau (NCB) has dropped
Aryan Khan, son of Bol-
lywood actor Shah Rukh
Khan, and five others
from its chargesheet
filed on Friday in con-
nection with a drugs
bust onboard a cruise
ship off the Mumbai
coast last October. Ary-
an and 19 others were
arrested by the NCB’s
Mumbai zonal unit on
October 3, 2021 on charg-
es that they were all
“’intrinsically connect-
ed” to a conspiracy in-
volving drugs.
In a statement Fri-
day, the NCB said, “SIT
carried out its investi-
gation in an objective
manner. The touch-
stone of the principle
of proof beyond rea-
sonable doubt has been
applied.”
New Delhi: A Delhi
court awarded four-
year imprisonment and
a Rs 50 lakh fine to for-
mer Haryana chief
minister Om Prakash
Chautala in a dispro-
portionate assets case
on Friday
.
When the Indian Na-
tional Lok Dal leader
failed to satisfactorily
account for the assets
found by the CBI to be
disproportionate to his
legitimate sources of in-
come between 1993 and
2006, he was convicted
by special judge Vikas
Dhull on May 21. The
disproportionate assets
were calculated to be
worth Rs 6.09 crore, as
per the chargesheet
filed on March 26, 2010.
Chautala’s lawyers
had requested the court
to pass a lenient sen-
tence considering his
medical condition.
However, the CBI
pushed for maximum
punishment. “The per-
son in this case is a pub-
lic figure and giving
minimum punishment
would send a wrong
message. He does not
have clean anteced-
ents,” CBI said.

Addressing a press conference Friday, S N Pradhan, Di-
rector General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), said
that Aryan Khan is not a part of any international drug
cartel nor is there any conspiracy. Pradhan said, “The
SIT formed to look into the probe done by our Mumbai
NCB team found irregularities in the investigation. It
was not a joint conspiracy done by 14 people and so the
conspiracy section has not been added. We cannot base
the conspiracy charge merely on WhatsApp chats.”
Mumbai: Hailing the clean chit to Aryan Khan, the
ruling NCP in Maharashtra on Friday asked who
would be held responsible for the trauma he suf-
fered. Ally Congress alleged that the entire case was
part of a “larger conspiracy” to topple the Maha
Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, in which it shares
power with the Shiv Sena and NCP.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the
government to initiate a probe against former NCB
officer Sameer Wankhede for “shoddy investigation”
while probing the drugs-on-cruise case in which film
star Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan was arrested last
year. Action has also been initiated in connection with
his fake caste certificate matter, the sources added.

violence in UP. This is
an example of law and

state of UP has become
an advocate (‘paksh-

He claimed the opposi-

hoodwink the people of
UP on the farmer’s is-

year-long protest over
Centre’s now scrapped
agri-laws. “But the
farmers rejected the
false campaign which is
clear from the fact that

NIGERIAN NAT’L
HELD FOR
DUPING WOMEN
ON PRETEXT OF
MARRIAGE
ANigerian national staying in
Delhi has been arrested by
the Uttar Pradesh Police on the
charge of cheating at least 300
women and duping them of
crores of rupees on the pretext
of marriage, officials said on
Friday. The accused befriended
women through social media
and matrimonial websites, where
he introduced himself as a non-
resident Indian (NRI) settled in
Canada, the officials said.
Garuba Galumje (38), who hails
from Lagos in Nigeria, was
staying in the Kishan Garh area
of South Delhi and has been
arrested by officials of the cyber
crime police station in Noida,
they said. “The accused has been
arrested in connection with a
complaint from a woman who
lives in Meerut district of UP. He
claimed that she had registered
herself on Jeevansathi website
for marriage. A man approached
her through the website and
introduced himself as Indo-
Canadian NRI Sanjay Singh,”
said Inspector Reeta Yadav, in-
charge of the Noida cyber crime
police station. “The man
eventually gained her confidence
and made emotional appeals as
he tricked her into transferring
Rs 60 lakh in multiple
instalments into his various bank
accounts before she realised the
fraud,” Yadav told reporters.
When the matter was brought to
police, an investigation was
taken up and culprit tracked
down to be operating from Delhi
and arrested, said the inspector,
who led the cyber police team.
“During questioning, we came
across multiple similar cases
involving Garuba. There are over
300 women who he had targeted
through various popular
websites and cheated of crores.
On social media and matrimonial
websites, he used profile
pictures of smart-looking men
and not his own in order to dupe
women,” Yadav said. —PTI

fake encounter in 1991.
“The gruesome mur-

killing the policemen in
the ambush, Dubey fled
from the spot along with
his accomplishes. A few
days later, Vinay Tiwari
and KK Sharma were
suspended for their al-
leged laxity in duty. It
was alleged that Tiwari
and Sharma fled from
the scene when their
colleagues were at-
tacked. This caused
many to suspect their
roles in the entire epi-
sode. During a prelimi-
nary inquiry, it was
found that Tiwari and
Sharma had leaked in-
formation about the im-
pending raid against
Vikas Dubey after
which they were sent to
jail, officials said. In the
days following the am-
bush, several UP police
teams had launched a
manhunt to nab Dubey

New Delhi (PTI): The
Supreme Court Friday
stayed the Allahabad
High Court’s bail condi-
tion imposed on Sama-
jwadi Party MLA Azam
Khan directing the Dis-
trict Magistrate of
Rampur for taking pos-
session of land attached
to the Jauhar Universi-
ty campus in an alleged
grabbing of enemy
property case.
A vacation bench of
Justices DY Chandra-
chud and Bela M Trive-
di said that prima facie
the Allahabad High
Court’s bail condition
imposed on Khan is dis-
proportionate and
sounds like a decree of
a civil court.
The bench, while re-
ferring to the May 10
order of the Allahabad
High Court, said that it
was opined that bail
was being granted to
the petitioner (Khan)
on the ground of age
and his health condi-
tion, apart from the fact
that in most of the cases
in which the prosecu-
tion was initiated
against him, he has
been bailed out.
However, prima facie
the conditions which
have been imposed by
the High Court for the
grant of bail are dispro-
portionate and have no
reasonable link with the
conditions which are
required to be imposed
to secure the presence
of the accused and to
ensure the fairness of
the trial is not impeded
, the bench said.
It said that in the im-
pugned order of the
High Court, the single
judge has observed that
the present order in the
bail application may
sound like a decree of a
civil court dealing and
deciding the title over
the property
. The bench
said, Yet, prima facie the
HighCourtwhileimpos-
ing the conditions for
grant of bail has exceed-
ed the settled parame-
ters governing the exer-
cise of the jurisdiction
under section 439 CrPC.

Lucknow: In the run-
up to the Lok Sabha
elections in 2024, the
Congress party is gear-
ing up to regain its lost
ground in UP. Party
strategists have been
carrying out many ex-
periments to make in-
roads among various
caste groups, especially
Dalits, Brahmins and
Muslims. The inclusion
of expelled BSP leader
Nakul Dubey in the
Congress is being as-
sessed as the party’s
Brahmin card.
However, many Con-
gress leaders them-
selves are apprehensive
about the relevance of
Dubey, the prominent
Brahmin faces of the
BSP at one time, to the
party. On the condition
of anonymity, a leader
of the State Congress
said that Nakul Dubey
could win the election
only once in his politi-
cal life. He doubts how
such a leader can prove
to be effective for the
party which is suffer-
ing through a gloomy
situation.
By the way, it is a
known fact that the
electoral fortune of Na-
kul Dubey, who was the
cabinet minister of the
Urban Department be-
tween 2007 and 2012, did
not favor him after that.
He had to face humiliat-
ing defeat in the 2012
assembly elections,
then in the 2014 and
2019 Lok Sabha elec-
tions. For the year 2022
assembly elections, Na-
kul had accompanied
Misra when the latter
had launched a cam-
paign to woo the Brah-
mins. But after the poll
debacle, Mayawati was
so upset with Nakul
that he was expelled
fromtheBSPoncharges
of indiscipline.
Political analysts in-
sist that there is a lack
of an influential Brah-
min leader in the Con-
gress. The successors of
many veterans, because
of whom Congress had
a grip on the Brahmin
voters, have left the par-
ty
. Rita Bahuguna Joshi,
Jitin Prasada and
Lalitesh Pati Tripathi
are prominent among
them. Right now, Rajesh
Mishra, Pramod Tiwari
and his MLA daughter
Aradhana Mishra are
left as known Brahmin
faces in the state Con-
gress. Moreover, in the
recently conducted state
polls, the Congress had
fielded 147 candidates
from upper castes, of
which 73 were from the
Brahmin community
.
But all these could not
prove to be effective for
the victory of the party
.
However, now the
Congress wants to re-
cover from the elector-
al debacle. For this,
preparations are being
made to balance the
caste equations. In
coming days, plan to
include many more
leaders of other parties
in the Congress is be-
ing implemented.

cretisation of road-
sides and road berms
in Noida and Greater
Noida in excess of the
limits prescribed by
authorities.
A bench of Justice
AK Tyagi and expert
Dr Afroz Ahmad is-
sued notices to the
Ministry of Environ-
ment and Forests, UP
government, Noida
and others on a plea
seeking to remove con-
creting around trees.
“Let notices be is-
suedtotherespondents
requiring them to file
replies specifically re-
sponding to all materi-
al averments made in
the application within
two months.
“In the meanwhile,
respondents no. 3 and
4 are directed not to
carry out any further
act of concretisation
of roadsides and road
berms in Noida and
Greater Noida in ex-
cess of limits pre-
scribed vide Govern-
ment order dated
March 23, 2018 issued
by the State of Uttar
Pradesh concurred by
the Ministry of Envi-
ronment, Forests and
Climate Change...,”
the bench said.
The tribunal said
averments made in
the petition raise sub-
stantial questions re-
lating to the environ-
ment arising out of
the implementation of
the enactments speci-
fied in Schedule-I to
the NGT Act, 2010 and
illegality of proposed
action of respondents.
The green panel
passed the order on a
plea by environment
activist Vikrant Ton-
gad and dermatolo-
gist Dr Supriya Maha-
jan, stating that the
Noida and Greater
Noida authorities
were concretising en-
tire roadsides and
green/vegetated road
berms in flagrant vio-
lation of the orders of
the Tribunal and the
orders issued by the
state.

RAISING QUESTIONS
POLITICAL CAREER
COURTESY MEET
Jagdeesh Chandra greeted BJP National President
Jagat Prakash Nadda during a courtesy visit at the
latter’s residence in New Delhi on Friday evening.
RISE OF A PHOENIX
From P1…
26 May 2014, a water-
shed moment in India’s
history brought to fore
a new type of politics.
That day marked the
birth of a leader who,
with his vision of
strong India, changed
the rules of govern-
ance. Over the last
eight years, he has
emerged as an un-
matched charismatic
leader who has univer-
sal appeals and accept-
ability. People look
upon him as a divine
selfless man with “56
inch chest” and one
who has the ability to
change the fate. Naren-
dra Damodardas Modi
has not only travelled a
long way from Gujarat
to the power centre of
New Delhi but also has
etched an indelible
mark in the history
books as a legend who
foresaw the making of
modern India. Though
Modi’s second tenure
started on May 30, 2021
he has been ruling
hearts of millions of
people ever since he en-
tered the public life.
His decisions like ab-
rogation of Article 370,
Demonetization, end-
ing Triple Talaq, surgi-
cal strikes, Balakot air
strike, implementation
of GST, Jan-Dhan Yo-
jana, Ujjawala Yojana,
Free grain scheme, Jal
Jeevan Mission and
withdrawal of Farm
laws and several others
have made the ‘Aam
Aadmi’ trust the char-
ismatic leader. But that
is not all, Modi single
handedly has also in-
stilled a belief and con-
fidence in the Indian
mindset that India
reigns supreme.
Narendra Modi with his strategist, trouble-shooter and natural ally Amit Shah.

e would like
to know
more about
you.
My name is
K a n g g a n a
Malik and I
am from Noida. I am
currently pursuing a
course in fashion
communication
from Pearl Acad-
emy
. I have lived
in Thailand
for more than
five years which
taught me a lot about
the socio-cultural dif-
ferences between the
two nationalities. The
time that I spent in
Thailand was one of the
best times of my life. I
enjoyed the spectacular
beauty, scrumptious
delicacies and shopping
spree in that country
.
Why did you choose to
model as a profession?
As a fashion student, I
wanted to connect with
this industry at an
early stage since I
loved it. I
t h o u g h t
the best
way by
which one
can connect
with the fash-
ion industry is
through model-
ling. Modelling not
only helped me con-
nect with the industry
leaders but also al-
lowed me to express
my charisma with the
zeal of passion.
What challenges did you
face in this industry?
It has been a year since
I started modelling and
luckily the journey is
smooth for me. A com-
mon challenge faced by
all the models is long
and tiring shoot sched-
ules. However, it is noth-
ing new as one requires
determination and pas-
sion towards their goals
to succeed.
We would like to
know about your
achievements.
I have done assignments
for many celebrity de-
signers. I participated
in the First Miss India
Teen’ 21 and was de-
clared the runner up. I
walked the ramp in Del-
hi Runway Week’21,
Asian Couture Week’22
and India Style Fashion
Week’22. I recently
walked the ramp at Del-
hi Times Fashion
Week’22. I believe in
Sia’s song: Unstoppable,
where it is rightly said
that I am a Porsche with
no brakes!
Where do you see
yourself after five
years from now?
I wish to see my-
self making a mark
in the glamour indus-
try. I hope someday my
experience and exper-
tise will inspire young
models to follow their
hearts and passion
without any constraint
from society.

YOUR
DAY
Horoscope by
Saurabbh Sachdeva
s Marwaris, we take
ourlocalpicklesvery
seriously
. We make
them at home, bor-
row them from the
neighbours, and buy
only from our trust-
ed sources. In this blog, we’ll
talkaboutthreeof ourfavour-
ites from Rajasthan, why we
love them so much, and also,
that one pickle-maker in the
old walled city of Jaipur who
we frequently visit.
Koi When we speak of the
Indian pickles, we usually
have this misconception that
they are full of oil and masa-
las which make them un-
healthy. On the contrary, all
that’s put in the recipe is su-
per-food in itself and con-
tains innumerable health
benefits. Some of the com-
mon ingredients, for exam-
ple, are mustard oil, asafoeti-
da (hing), turmeric (haldi),
mustard seeds, kalonji aka
black cumin or Nigella sati-
va, raw veggies/fruits, etc.
The most popular pickles
of India are prepared using
raw mango, amla (gooseber-
ry), carrot, lemon, garlic,
radish, cauliflower, etc. A lot
of mix and match also hap-
pens in these recipes that are
interesting to eat. Our fa-
vourites, however, include
the Rajasthani Kairi (raw
mango), Ker, and Rai Mirch
achaar. Have you ever tried
them? Let’s quickly go
through some common ad-
vantages of including achaar
in your daily diet:
ACHAAR IS THE OG
FERMENTED FOOD
Yes, Indians were masters of
fermentation. The great In-
dian pickle uses this old
method of keeping the unripe
fruits/vegetables in highly
concentrated salt water or
vinegar. The bacteria which
are present in vegetables are
salt resistant and hence,
when put in salt water or vin-
egar, they help convert the
sugar into lactic acid. Thus,
the sour taste! These pickles
are great for your digestion.
CONTROLS BLOOD SUGAR
Vinegar in pickles helps
keep the blood sugar levels
in control. Some studies
show that consuming two
teaspoons of vinegar with
carbs may reduce post-meal
blood glucose levels by as
much as 20 per cent.
BETTER DIGESTION
Eating pickles with your dai-
ly meals is a great way to
keep digestion on point. Pick-
les help in the growth of good
bacteria in our gut.
RICH IN ANTI-OXIDANTS
Our pickles have the proper-
ty to protect our bodies from
the free radicals that can
harm our daily functionali-
ties. Hence, pickles are said
to give us a stronger immune
system.
RICH IN NUTRIENTS
You’ll be surprised to know
that the Indian pickles are
rich in nutrients like carbo-
hydrates, potassium, magne-
sium, sodium and vitamins
like A, C K. A while ago, the
country’s celebrity nutrition-
ist Rujuta Diwekar took to
Instagram to talk about the
benefits of Indian pickle.
SHE MENTIONED
l They enhance the taste and
flavour of food.
l They help in the digestive
processes of the body.
l They are a reliable source
of vitamins, minerals and
antioxidants.
l They provide the body with
healthy bacteria which
makes it easy for the body to
produce vitamins like B12.
l They ensure that your gut is
not colonised by pathogens
or bad bacteria.
Were you aware of these
fitness facts? We like how our
Indian pickles aren’t just
good for our health, but also
satiate our taste buds espe-
cially when we want to add
that zing to our meals and
during pregnancies as well
when we feel like eating all
things chatpata.
A while ago, our favourite
Culinary Chronicler, Rushi-
na Munshaw Ghildiyal, con-
ducted a Live Instagram ses-
sion to discuss some kickass
ancient pickle recipes with
her followers. She also spoke
of a couple of Pahadi recipes
like non-veg pickles, kathal
aka jackfruit pickle, etc.
Along with this, we also
heard her share the benefits
of consuming nimboo aka
lemon pickles every day as a
cure to stomach aches. This
is our go-to treatment at
home as well. Lemon pickles
truly work wonders and one
can feel at ease almost in-
stantly!
Our favourites are also
loaded with a lot of benefits.
To state a few:
KER PICKLE
Ker treats constipation and
other stomach-related ail-
ments Rajasthani Kairi: Rich
in Vit C, raw mango pickle
adds that glow to your skin
and makes hair healthy
.
THE INDIAN PICKLES WE
CAN’T STOP SNACKING ON
A
RAI MIRCH ACHAAR
Chillies are rich in vitamins
and minerals, boost metabo-
lism and overall immune
system Lastly, let’s reveal
the name of our much-
loved pickle-maker in
Jaipur. It’s Vijaylal Acha-
rwala (996, Gopal ji ka
rasta, Achar walon ki gali,
Bapu Bazar. This area has
plenty of traditional pickle-
makers, check them out when
you’re here!

here’s a lot
we forgot
how to do
over the
last two
years (cas-
ually in-
teract with other
humans, for start-
ers), and dressing
for the office is
pretty high on the
list. But now that
workplaces are
full, it’s time to get
back into the swing
of things. Figuring
out a stylish work-
appropriate outfit
when it’s swelter-
ing out is hard
enough. Of course,
you’ll want to be
comfortable during
your commute, try
not to freeze under
the AC while sit-
ting at your desk,
and steer clear of
the HR rep scoffing
at a skirt choice.

The way he has completed eight years in office of prime minister, he looks set to surpass Jawahar Lal Nehru, who has the distinction of be- ing at the highest position for close to 17 years. He may have served half the tenure than Nehru but his achievements have placed him among the most pow- erful politicians in the world. Be it handling glob- al pandemic like Covid-19 or Russia-Ukraine war, Modi has emerged as an undisputed towering world leader whom the entire globe looks upon. The supremacy of India was strongly felt in every spectrum with Modi lead- ing the light. At home also, Modi en- sured a safe and strong country for Indians with mitigating all kinds of threats from neighbours. For that the role of his ‘ManFriday’AmitShahis significant. Not only as the country’s home minis- ter but also as the princi- pal strategist, trouble shooter and Chanakya of BJPwhichmadetheparty an invincible political force. The duo compli- mentsandsupplementsso well that even the strong- est of their detractors can’tseeanyonereplacing them in near future. It’s Modi and Shah that make “double engine” ki sarkar, which has put the country on the high accel- erator belt. The country, which came out of the throes of deadly Covid-19, is back on the growth path with an aim to achieve the $5 trillion economy. Modi’s mantra sabka saath sabka vikas has started doing the trick for the country . It’s the sheer charisma of Modi that the economy which saw growth for the first time in four decades in the Covid-hit 2020, is now estimated to grow at 8.9 per cent in 2021 fol- lowed by another growth wave of 8.2% in 2022. Modi has strengthened the pil- lars of economy so that even the impact of Russia Ukraine war failed to make a dent in Indian economythewayithasleft other strong global econo- mies in tatters. I call upon our youth to come forward with ideas for new startups in this sector to help empower our people: PM @NarendraModi ji Dr Jitendra Singh @DrJitendraSingh Addressed the National #GoodGovernance Webinar Series on Health, organised by #DARPG, Ministry of Personnel. “Need of the hour is for the Civil Servants to focus on innovative ideas having replicability and sustainability, which can be used as best governance practices.” TOP TWEETS ARYAN KHAN GETS A CLEAN CHIT FROM NCB, BUT TRAUMA WILL HAUNT HIM fter he was put in jail for 20 days the Nar- cotics Control Bu- reau has given actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan a clean chit. The NCB has stated in its final charge-sheet that no drug was found on the person of the Bol- lywood actor’s son. Five others who were nabbed along with Aryan on October 2, 2021 in the infamous raid on a cruise ship headed from Mumbai to Goa have also been let off. From the very outset the arrest of Aryan was being looked at as a gross misuse of power by a certain NCB officer who led the raid was later shunted out. The case was thentransferredtoaDelhi-based Special Investigation Team. The NCB asserted that the SIT carried out the probe in an ob- jective manner which must be appreciated but the trauma of Aryan Khan and the officer who was the cause of it is not being mentioned. Some accountabili- ty has to be fixed. A ihar Chief Minis- ter Nitish Kumar has once again raised the ticklish issue of caste cen- sus to stump the Bharatiya Janata party . Opposition par- ties like the Rashtriya Janata Dal are also of the view that a caste census is much need- ed in the country. Last year Tejashvi Yadav of the RJD hadgoneontoaskthat“when animals and plants are count- ed, what is the problem in counting humans”? He based his argument on the Mandal Commission report which, when made public by former Prime Minister VP Singh more than 30 years ago, in- formed the people about dif- ferent castes in the country. Tejashvi wanted to know why caste-based census can- not be done and how welfare schemes can be implemented without scientific data on caste census. Nitish Kumar recently an- nounced that his government would start work on caste census after consulting all parties. A date for an all-par- ty meet to arrive at a consen- sus on the sensitive issue is yet to be decided. Not all par- ties, especially the BJP, are open to the idea of Nitish who had led a delegation to meet the Prime Minister on the issue. The BJP is main- taining an ambivalent ap- proach. The Centre is op- posed to the move on the ground that it may cause di- visions in society . The Mandal report saw the rise of caste-based politics and job reservations. While a caste-based census would help in better implementa- tion of affirmative action, it may also deepen the caste divide. With politics driven by castes, meeting the aspira- tions of various caste groups would be a tall order for the government. NITISH PLAYS CASTE CENSUS CARD AGAIN Nitish Kumar recently announced that his government would start work on caste census after consulting all parties. A date for an all- party meet to arrive at a consensus on the sensitive issue is yet to be decided B t gives me great pride as In- dian to say that India is the only country in the world that liberated Bangladesh with surrender of fully armed one Lakh Pakistani troops in just 14 days. Even super powers have failed to do that. The war in Ukraine has gone beyond 80 days, much against the expecta- tions of the world and cer- tainly, that of Russia. WHOWINS,WHOCARES!! Every nation state has so far played the game to it’s nation- al interest. The US set up the Ukraine conflict way back, with Eastward expansion of NATO. Ukraine has been made the sacrificial lamb to weaken Russia and deplete the threat to Europe and NATO. Initially, they lured Ukraine away from Russia, almost instigated Putin and when Russia attacked, no NATOandEUmember joined hands to defend Ukraine. A scan of major players in this game and their aim to benefit fromthiswararediscussedin the succeeding narrative. UKRAINE The biggest loser in this war will be Ukraine only . Ukraine could not understand the games of western countries and played along till the gal- lows. Unfortunately, it‘s still going along the garden path. Whosoever wins, Ukraine will be severely mauled. Zelensky is being foolhardy by pressing on against Russia at the behest of NATO. When USA and NATO did not come to defend him against Rus- sian aggression, he should have understood their game and saved the destruction of his country . If the war esca- lates to weapons of mass de- struction, Ukraine will find itself at ground ZERO. Apart from major influx of weapons, war equipment and logistics aid, large number of mercenaries are operating in Ukraine. After the war, these will find their way to terror- ist organizations and Ukraine with weak adminis- tration will provide safe sanctuaries, for terrorists.   RUSSIA Russia claims itself to be the politicalheirandsuccessorof the USSR. After Crimea War in2014,unabletodefenditself, Ukraine started romancing with NATO, which irked Rus- sia and hence Putin invaded Ukraine. Russia has acted in it’s national interest before the enemy knocks at it’s door. Russia had predicted to wrap up Ukraine war by swift blitzkrieg operations resultingindefeatof Ukraine forces and surrender of Zelensky Govt. Unfortunate- ly, that did not happen and the war is now dragged to al- most three months without tangible gains. Russia is now looking for a face saving exit. If USA and Europe corner Putin, he may well use weap- ons of mass destruction. This may lead to a riposte from the West and likely to snowball into a larger nucle- ar confrontation. USA NATO It’s interesting to note that America has never fought a war on it’s own soil. Destruc- tion of Ukraine is a small price for it in it’s quest for ‘The Superpower tag’. They have managed to weaken their primary foe (Russia), since cold war days, without firing a bullet from it’s soil. Ukraine is just part of collat- eral damage for them, which they really don’t care. Economic Sanctions are double edged weapons. After the initial fall, ruble is rising again. Russia and friendly countries are finding alter- native to SWIFT banking system. Russia is using oil, gas and gold as weapons against sanctions. Europe also has been hit with record inflation and energy crisis. CHINA China is maintaining neutral stance and it has not openly sided with Russia. When Russia is back to wall and will request China for financial and military help, PRC will extract it’s pound of flesh, for the help at that time. It’s also keenly watching US and NATO reaction to Russian in- vasion, before it makes up it’s mind on annexation of Tai- wan. Prolonged war is in fa- vour of China, so that USA and Europe exhaust them- selves in Ukraine, thereby helping China to catapult it- self to center stage of world politics. INDIA India has taken a path of principled neutrality . So far, India has been able to tread this thin line with great fi- nesse. It’s because of suc- cessful diplomacy by India that foreign dignitaries from all over the world are making a bee line to New Delhi. It’s a matter of pride that every- one wants India to play an active role in mediation and help to end the war, as soon as possible. PM Narendra Modi is master at converting threats into opportunities. He has kept India’s national inter- ests supreme. Firstly, he evacuated Indians from Ukraine with perfection, got fuel at reduced rates and also enhanced the image of the country, during this cri- sis. He has won accolades even from Prime Minister of Pakistan. India is all set to play a pivotal role in the world geopolitics, post Ukraine war. CONCLUSION The Russian invasion in Ukraine isn’t just Russian and Ukrainian affair. Moreo- ver, the rest of the world is also adversely affected be- cause of Russian invasion and Western sanctions on Russia. It has the potential to escalate to nuclear holocaust. Certainly, it will reshape the global landscape and a new world order will emerge post Ukraine war. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL WHO WINS! WHO CARES! UKRAINE I Ukraine has been made the sacrificial lamb to weaken Russia deplete the threat to Europe and NATO. Initially, they lured Ukraine away from Russia, almost instigated Putin and when Russia attacked, no NATO EU member joined hands to defend Ukraine. • 3. First India Bureau Lucknow: Chief Min- ister Yogi Adityanath on Friday slammed leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav over his false campaign on farmers’ issues and his reluctance to accept the “success” of the double engine government. The “double engine” government, he said, is “working at triple speed”. Speaking on the mo- tion of thanks on the Governor’s address, CM Yogi listed the achieve- ments of his previous government, comparing them with the one led earlier by Akhilesh Ya- dav’s Samajwadi Party . He ridiculed the op- position leader for blaming EVMs for the SP’s defeat. “If they win, everything is al- right. But if the BJP wins, there is some fault with the EVMs,” Yogi said. “This is an insult to the people.” Without naming Mamata Banerjee, CM Yogi recalled her visit to the state during the UP campaign. “A ‘didi’ from West Bengal came in support of the Sama- jwadi Party in the elec- tions,” he said, adding that “12,000 incidents of violence” were report- ed from 142 of the 294 assembly seats in West Bengal and a large number of BJP workers targeted. “The popula- tion of West Bengal is half of Uttar Pradesh. There was no pre-poll or any post-poll Turn to P4 Yogi rips into Akhilesh in fiery speech in Assembly MOTION OF THANKS TO GOVERNOR’S ADDRESS lll ‘We are labelled nationalists, and we feel proud of it. Adityanath’s praise for the senior leader came a day after Shivpal praised the CM for being “honest and hardworking”. Adityanath praised and thanked Shivpal Yadav for distributing tablets and smartphones in his Jaswantnagar Assembly constituency. Adityanath referred to the socialist leader as Shivpal ji. Taking a swipe at Akhilesh, the CM said, “How much you talk of socialism; the fact is that you have transformed socialism into a mirage. Whenever there is a talk about socialism, Dr Lohia and Jayprakash Narayan are discussed. Nowadays, occasionally I see Sahivpal ji’s writing on Dr Lohia. You need to read about Dr Lohia.” LUCKNOW l SATURDAY, MAY 28, 2022 l Pages 12 l 3.00 RNI NO. New Delhi: PM Modi on Friday stated that eight years ago his authorities started implementing new mantras of good governance in India following the trail of minimal authorities – most governance. “This was the time eight years ago when we started implementing new mantras of good governance in India. Following the path of minimum government, and maximum governance, we have made ease of living, and ease of doing business a priority. We connected every citizen of the country with the facilities and welfare schemes by moving forward on the path of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas‘,” he said. Former Haryana CM OP Chautala gets 4 years in jail 7 soldiers killed, several injured as army bus falls into Shyok river Turtuk: As many as seven Indian Army sol- diers lost their lives af- ter the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell in the Shyok river in the Turtuk sector of Ladakh on Friday. There were 26 soldiers in the bus, which was moving from the Tran- sit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in sub-sector Hanif. The accident took place at 9 am around 25 km from Thoise. The bus fell to a depth of around 50-60 feet, re- sulting in injuries to all occupants. The Army officials further informed that the in- jured were evacuated to the 403 Field Hospi- tal at Partapur and surgical teams from Leh have moved to Par- tapur. Mumbai: A Special In- vestigation Team of the Narcotics Control Bu- reau (NCB) has dropped Aryan Khan, son of Bol- lywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, and five others from its chargesheet filed on Friday in con- nection with a drugs bust onboard a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast last October. Ary- an and 19 others were arrested by the NCB’s Mumbai zonal unit on October 3, 2021 on charg- es that they were all “’intrinsically connect- ed” to a conspiracy in- volving drugs. In a statement Fri- day, the NCB said, “SIT carried out its investi- gation in an objective manner. The touch- stone of the principle of proof beyond rea- sonable doubt has been applied.” New Delhi: A Delhi court awarded four- year imprisonment and a Rs 50 lakh fine to for- mer Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala in a dispro- portionate assets case on Friday . When the Indian Na- tional Lok Dal leader failed to satisfactorily account for the assets found by the CBI to be disproportionate to his legitimate sources of in- come between 1993 and 2006, he was convicted by special judge Vikas Dhull on May 21. The disproportionate assets were calculated to be worth Rs 6.09 crore, as per the chargesheet filed on March 26, 2010. Chautala’s lawyers had requested the court to pass a lenient sen- tence considering his medical condition. However, the CBI pushed for maximum punishment. “The per- son in this case is a pub- lic figure and giving minimum punishment would send a wrong message. He does not have clean anteced- ents,” CBI said. Pradhan said, “The SIT formed to look into the probe done by our Mumbai NCB team found irregularities in the investigation. It was not a joint conspiracy done by 14 people and so the conspiracy section has not been added. We cannot base the conspiracy charge merely on WhatsApp chats.” Mumbai: Hailing the clean chit to Aryan Khan, the ruling NCP in Maharashtra on Friday asked who would be held responsible for the trauma he suf- fered. Ally Congress alleged that the entire case was part of a “larger conspiracy” to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, in which it shares power with the Shiv Sena and NCP. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the government to initiate a probe against former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede for “shoddy investigation” while probing the drugs-on-cruise case in which film star Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan was arrested last year. A vacation bench of Justices DY Chandra- chud and Bela M Trive- di said that prima facie the Allahabad High Court’s bail condition imposed on Khan is dis- proportionate and sounds like a decree of a civil court. The bench, while re- ferring to the May 10 order of the Allahabad High Court, said that it was opined that bail was being granted to the petitioner (Khan) on the ground of age and his health condi- tion, apart from the fact that in most of the cases in which the prosecu- tion was initiated against him, he has been bailed out. However, prima facie the conditions which have been imposed by the High Court for the grant of bail are dispro- portionate and have no reasonable link with the conditions which are required to be imposed to secure the presence of the accused and to ensure the fairness of the trial is not impeded , the bench said. It said that in the im- pugned order of the High Court, the single judge has observed that the present order in the bail application may sound like a decree of a civil court dealing and deciding the title over the property . The bench said, Yet, prima facie the HighCourtwhileimpos- ing the conditions for grant of bail has exceed- ed the settled parame- ters governing the exer- cise of the jurisdiction under section 439 CrPC. It had said that on com- pletion of the exercise of taking the possession of the land to the satisfac- tion of the DM, Rampur, the interim bail of Azam Khan shall be converted into regular bail. First India Bureau Prayagraj: The Alla- habad High Court has quashedtheorderof the Senior Jail Superinten- dent,CentralJail,Naini, District Prayagraj dis- missing the Jail Warder, the petitioner, on the grounds of that he had a criminal case against him. A single bench of Justice Rajiv Joshi passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Sunil Yadav. The writ petition has been filed for quashing the order dated 23.3.2022 passed by the Senior Jail Superintendent, Central Jail Naini, Dis- trict Prayagraj, where- by appointment of the petitioner as Jail Ward- er was cancelled. The counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner has not concealed anything in declaration as sub- mitted during verifica- tion proceedings and the order has been passed only on the ground that a criminal case is pending against the petitioner. The counsel for the petitioner has placed reliance upon the deci- sion of Apex Court in case of Avtar Singh vs Union of India and oth- ers, 2016 (8) SCC 471. Standing Counsel states that no useful purpose will be served in calling for the counter affidavit and keeping the writ pe- tition pending and di- rection be issued to the authority concerned for deciding case afresh in light of observation made by the apex court in case of Avtar Singh vs Union of India and others, 2016 (8) SCC 471. “In view of above, the order dated 23.3.2022 passed by the Senior Jail Superintendent, Central Jail Naini, Dis- trict Prayagraj is here- by quashed and the writ petition stands al- lowed,” the court said. Party strategists have been carrying out many ex- periments to make in- roads among various caste groups, especially Dalits, Brahmins and Muslims. The inclusion of expelled BSP leader Nakul Dubey in the Congress is being as- sessed as the party’s Brahmin card. However, many Con- gress leaders them- selves are apprehensive about the relevance of Dubey, the prominent Brahmin faces of the BSP at one time, to the party. On the condition of anonymity, a leader of the State Congress said that Nakul Dubey could win the election only once in his politi- cal life. He doubts how such a leader can prove to be effective for the party which is suffer- ing through a gloomy situation. By the way, it is a known fact that the electoral fortune of Na- kul Dubey, who was the cabinet minister of the Urban Department be- tween 2007 and 2012, did not favor him after that. He had to face humiliat- ing defeat in the 2012 assembly elections, then in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elec- tions. For the year 2022 assembly elections, Na- kul had accompanied Misra when the latter had launched a cam- paign to woo the Brah- mins. But after the poll debacle, Mayawati was so upset with Nakul that he was expelled fromtheBSPoncharges of indiscipline. Political analysts in- sist that there is a lack of an influential Brah- min leader in the Con- gress. The successors of many veterans, because of whom Congress had a grip on the Brahmin voters, have left the par- ty . Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Jitin Prasada and Lalitesh Pati Tripathi are prominent among them. Right now, Rajesh Mishra, Pramod Tiwari and his MLA daughter Aradhana Mishra are left as known Brahmin faces in the state Con- gress. Moreover, in the recently conducted state polls, the Congress had fielded 147 candidates from upper castes, of which 73 were from the Brahmin community . But all these could not prove to be effective for the victory of the party . However, now the Congress wants to re- cover from the elector- al debacle. For this, preparations are being made to balance the caste equations. In coming days, plan to include many more leaders of other parties in the Congress is be- ing implemented. RISE OF A PHOENIX From P1… 26 May 2014, a water- shed moment in India’s history brought to fore a new type of politics. That day marked the birth of a leader who, with his vision of strong India, changed the rules of govern- ance. Over the last eight years, he has emerged as an un- matched charismatic leader who has univer- sal appeals and accept- ability. People look upon him as a divine selfless man with “56 inch chest” and one who has the ability to change the fate. Naren- dra Damodardas Modi has not only travelled a long way from Gujarat to the power centre of New Delhi but also has etched an indelible mark in the history books as a legend who foresaw the making of modern India. Though Modi’s second tenure started on May 30, 2021 he has been ruling hearts of millions of people ever since he en- tered the public life. His decisions like ab- rogation of Article 370, Demonetization, end- ing Triple Talaq, surgi- cal strikes, Balakot air strike, implementation of GST, Jan-Dhan Yo- jana, Ujjawala Yojana, Free grain scheme, Jal Jeevan Mission and withdrawal of Farm laws and several others have made the ‘Aam Aadmi’ trust the char- ismatic leader. YOUR DAY Horoscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva s Marwaris, we take ourlocalpicklesvery seriously . We make them at home, bor- row them from the neighbours, and buy only from our trust- ed sources. In this blog, we’ll talkaboutthreeof ourfavour- ites from Rajasthan, why we love them so much, and also, that one pickle-maker in the old walled city of Jaipur who we frequently visit. Koi When we speak of the Indian pickles, we usually have this misconception that they are full of oil and masa- las which make them un- healthy. On the contrary, all that’s put in the recipe is su- per-food in itself and con- tains innumerable health benefits. Some of the com- mon ingredients, for exam- ple, are mustard oil, asafoeti- da (hing), turmeric (haldi), mustard seeds, kalonji aka black cumin or Nigella sati- va, raw veggies/fruits, etc. The most popular pickles of India are prepared using raw mango, amla (gooseber- ry), carrot, lemon, garlic, radish, cauliflower, etc. A lot of mix and match also hap- pens in these recipes that are interesting to eat. Our fa- vourites, however, include the Rajasthani Kairi (raw mango), Ker, and Rai Mirch achaar. Have you ever tried them? Let’s quickly go through some common ad- vantages of including achaar in your daily diet: ACHAAR IS THE OG FERMENTED FOOD Yes, Indians were masters of fermentation. The great In- dian pickle uses this old method of keeping the unripe fruits/vegetables in highly concentrated salt water or vinegar. The bacteria which are present in vegetables are salt resistant and hence, when put in salt water or vin- egar, they help convert the sugar into lactic acid. Thus, the sour taste! These pickles are great for your digestion. CONTROLS BLOOD SUGAR Vinegar in pickles helps keep the blood sugar levels in control. Some studies show that consuming two teaspoons of vinegar with carbs may reduce post-meal blood glucose levels by as much as 20 per cent. BETTER DIGESTION Eating pickles with your dai- ly meals is a great way to keep digestion on point. Pick- les help in the growth of good bacteria in our gut. RICH IN ANTI-OXIDANTS Our pickles have the proper- ty to protect our bodies from the free radicals that can harm our daily functionali- ties. Hence, pickles are said to give us a stronger immune system. RICH IN NUTRIENTS You’ll be surprised to know that the Indian pickles are rich in nutrients like carbo- hydrates, potassium, magne- sium, sodium and vitamins like A, C K. A while ago, the country’s celebrity nutrition- ist Rujuta Diwekar took to Instagram to talk about the benefits of Indian pickle. SHE MENTIONED l They enhance the taste and flavour of food. l They help in the digestive processes of the body. l They are a reliable source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. l They provide the body with healthy bacteria which makes it easy for the body to produce vitamins like B12. l They ensure that your gut is not colonised by pathogens or bad bacteria. Were you aware of these fitness facts? We like how our Indian pickles aren’t just good for our health, but also satiate our taste buds espe- cially when we want to add that zing to our meals and during pregnancies as well when we feel like eating all things chatpata. A while ago, our favourite Culinary Chronicler, Rushi- na Munshaw Ghildiyal, con- ducted a Live Instagram ses- sion to discuss some kickass ancient pickle recipes with her followers. She also spoke of a couple of Pahadi recipes like non-veg pickles, kathal aka jackfruit pickle, etc. Along with this, we also heard her share the benefits of consuming nimboo aka lemon pickles every day as a cure to stomach aches. This is our go-to treatment at home as well. Lemon pickles truly work wonders and one can feel at ease almost in- stantly! Our favourites are also loaded with a lot of benefits. To state a few: KER PICKLE Ker treats constipation and other stomach-related ail- ments Rajasthani Kairi: Rich in Vit C, raw mango pickle adds that glow to your skin and makes hair healthy . THE INDIAN PICKLES WE CAN’T STOP SNACKING ON A RAI MIRCH ACHAAR Chillies are rich in vitamins and minerals, boost metabo- lism and overall immune system Lastly, let’s reveal the name of our much- loved pickle-maker in Jaipur. It’s Vijaylal Acha- rwala (996, Gopal ji ka rasta, Achar walon ki gali, Bapu Bazar. This area has plenty of traditional pickle- makers, check them out when you’re here!
