If you are like many people, even the thought of delivering a speech in front of an audience will get your palms sweating. The fear of public speaking ranks high among the most common phobias, and for good reason: most of us approach the situation with the wrong mindset, which in turn makes us live out our worst fears in a public forum.
As Michael Parker notes in IT’S NOT WHAT YOU SAY: How to Sell Your Message When It Matters Most (A TarcherPerigee paperback; on sale January 2016), our fixation on the content of our words – and not the presentation of ourselves – is what brings us down. Once the Vice-Chairman of London’s Saatchi & Saatchi, and one of the world’s most experienced advertising pitch men, having made more than 1,000 pitches in his successful career, Parker has learned first-hand that an effective presentation, a job interview, or even a speech at a wedding hinges on our ability to portray ourselves as passionate, relatable, and collected. But, if we are focused on what we say, and not how we act, we will fail to persuade our audience.
Applied in the boardroom, at the pulpit, or even in conversation, these tenets will help you present better in any situation.
The Great State of Design with CSS Grid Layout and FriendsStacy Kvernmo
For far too long we've been forced to reuse layout patterns that have worked in the past, creating a web full of sites that all look the same. Narrow timelines, browser support restrictions and lack of a true grid system have led us to create work that is "good enough".
I've spent years exploring how we can make the web a more unique space. With some of the newer CSS techniques available, we can start to make more creative designs. CSS Grid Layout is on the horizon and will play a major role in the design of our sites. Finally having a true, 2 dimensional grid will give our layouts much more flexibility and it is on us to explore the possibilities.
This talk was presented at CSS Day 2016.

Help Young Talent Develop a Professional MindsetDaniel Goleman
There is a chasm between what business leaders expect from recent graduates, and what these new hires offer. In a Hay Group study of 450 business leaders and 450 recent graduates based in India, the US, and China… a massive 76% of business leaders reported that entry-level workers and recent grads are not ready for their jobs.
In most cases, these hires are intelligent, ambitious, and technically savvy. They have proven their ability to accomplish the work. They’re committed and passionate about rising through the ranks. So what are these new professionals missing?
They’re lacking soft skills.
Norman suggests that when using a product, our emotional state affects the utility we derive and our experience. People in positive emotional states are prone to be more creative since their thinking is more expansive and helps them in finding alternatives to the problem at hand.
A negative or stressful emotional state constricts perception and narrows down our focus to quickly find a resolution–that’s how nature has programmed us to deal with threats.
Here is a breakdown of the three levels of design and how they translate to good design:

Site analytics. The quantified self. Big data. Human activity is creating more and more measurable data. But is more data really helping designers make better decisions? Human problems often require illogical approaches. In order to meet real human needs, we need to approach the data we collect with empathy and find the story in the facts.
We have been using storytelling to share our thoughts and feelings ever since flat screen televisions meant clay tablets and cave walls. Stories move us; they inspire us. And that is why your 110th presentation should not just include data. Because data might persuade people to consider your idea for a while, but it won’t inspire them to act; to do that, you need to drape your vision in a story that makes your audience think: “Hey! I can picture myself in his shoes!” Your story should fire their imagination and make them come alive- because a story has a key to that special place where mundane quantitative data is denied entry: our hearts.

8 Steps To Do It Yourself Design Like A Pro!DesignMantic
The DIY Design philosophy foresees a world where you and you alone have all those easy-to-use tools to design your dream idea. Like suppose it’s a logo you want done – you get to choose the shapes, the text, the colors, the placement and everything in between. Oh yes all this without Photoshop-level expert knowledge or experience that is, which is what makes DIY all the more appealing.
More choices mean more win for everybody involved.
Let’s get this DIY show on the road with this 8 step guide to making your own designs.
Lean UX relies on a simple premise – think -> make -> evaluate.
It is a business strategy that thrives on feedback from the audience instead of the head honcho at a top tech firm. It represents democratization of design, ensuring faster (and more meaningful) design changes to products where deliverables aren’t important but the overall user experience is. Simply put, its focus on users having say over how the product/app/service performs is an interesting process to say the least.
