23 Things Quotes
These quotes are reflective blog
postings about 23 Learning 2.0 Things;
a discovery learning program designed
to encourage LIS students to explore
new technologies and reward them
for doing 23 Things
http://sites.google.com/site/23learning20things/
We were asked to reflect on ways
these applications could be used
in a library setting, but unless we
read everyone's blog posts, those
ideas were not shared. I think it
would be helpful to share these
ideas in some way.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed
this site and will use it often
in the future.
All in all, G docs is just pretty
awesome all around and I'm
glad I was exposed to it.
This assignment is one that I
could sink my teeth into. It
represents hands on learning,
which is the way I learn
best. Give me what I need and
let me run with it.
The beauty is that there
were really no right or wrong
answers to this
assignment. Every one's
reflections and thoughts are
their own and
I'm sure there were a wide
variety of opinions about
different exercises.
I have a deeper understanding
of things I was already
familiar with.
For me this assignment
does not end here.
Library Thing is a good thing.
Wow. Could a book lover find
a site that would be more
beneficial?
I loved this assignment
because I have been wanting
to check out Google Voice for
a while and just can't seem to
find the time.
The one tool I discovered that
I LOVE is iGoogle!
Google just keeps making my
life easier and easier.
I have enjoyed having an excuse
to run amuck around the
internet, testing whatever new
web 2.0 technologies I find.
Ready or not, Web 2.0 and
Library 2.0 is here to stay.
We have to keep up or be
left behind.
LibraryThing, he looked at
me, shook his head, and said,
“That is REALLY geeky.”
Perhaps it is, but if that is the
case, then there are lots of
other geeks just like me!
Now that I’m a grad student, I
use Google Docs for just about
everything that isn’t a hardcore
writing assignment.
Google Docs has been a
lifesaver when it comes to this
profession that emphasizes
collaboration, collaboration,
COLLABORATION!
I cannot see myself
functioning without it.
My lifelong learning goals have
certainly been affected. I think
it is important to keep up with
the latest web 2.0
technologies. It will be difficult
considering how quickly they
pop up but as a future library
professional it will be necessary.
I think my favorite program
I have learned about this year
is Google docs.
I had always wondered what
made RSS so special.
I wish I had Zotero when I
did my internship during
my senior year of my
Undergraduate education.
I never had used Google docs
before, in fact I had never
heard of this program.
Today I learned about the
usefulness of RSS feeds.
I can honestly say that I am
a youtube junkie.
overall it was a good
experience. i learned alot and
am now a little more literate
if anyone ever asks me about
one of these tools i have some
experience even if i am not
an expert. definitely helpful
to know.
The positives to the 23 Learning
2.0 Things is that it forces you
to explore things you may not
have known existed and could
really assimilate into your
academic, professional or
personal lives.
A world of technology has
been revealed to me. Now it's
up to me to decide how I'm
gonna use it.
I've discovered it now and early
enough in my graduate studies
to put it to good use.
Great job LibraryThing!
I think...I love you!
You know what's strange? I've
heard of Delicious but never
bothered to find out what it was
because I just assumed it would
be of no use to me.
Whew... done! I liked the whole
experience a lot, I learned a ton.
I never used Google Docs
until this year, and it is the
best thing ever.
There were some really great
tools, a lot I had used before
and a lot I hadn't, and all of
them were pretty interesting
to explore.
Not only can a lot of these
things be used by librarians in
their jobs, but are great tools to
introduce to library users, and
improve service.
This was an interesting site,
and one which I had never
heard of before.
Though I’d heard of Google
Docs before, I didn’t actually
use it until this semester. Man,
I was missing out!
I have enjoyed the explorations
of 23 Learning 2.o Things. I
have discovered some new
technologies, revisited some old
friends and gained some
organizational and time saving
tools along the way.
I had seen Zotero on library
computers, watched other
people use Zotero but had
never tried it myself. Until
today. Now I can count on
Zotero for the rest of my days
as a graduate student!
I am a bit surprised I did not
know about LibraryThing
before my introduction through
this exploration.
It wasn't until I was forced to
create an account (something
I've gotten much faster at,
lately,) created a custom search,
and performed a search, that I
saw the potential.
I have been embarassed about
my lack of use of RSS. I am
glad this assignment pushed
me into it.
I was, however, excited that I got
to clean my room as a work by
Alduous Huxley was read to me
in an Irish accent. Definitely not
possible with a book.
Okay, there seems to be some
kinda flux in our temporal
experience, but I assure you,
this is my first post on my first
blog and wow, the experience
is cool!
Can anyone read this? How
honest should I be? Does
anyone care?
Is my teacher really gonna read
all these posts? Can I fake
some? Will she read mine,
'cause I'm so amazing?
OK time for true
confessions: I did give second
life a try once. As my avatar
was walking to the library, it
fell into a fountain and was
unable to get out. It is probably
still there today.
I hope it's OK to not love
all of these "23 things"
Now I have more bookmarks
than I will ever need or use, but
I get reassurance knowing they
are there and organized if I do
need them.
Finding an interesting podcast
was easy. Getting the feed on
my blog was another story.
Although this is the end of the
project, hopefully it is not the
end of me or my blogging.
Hopefully I will have other
library-related thoughts that
can find a home here. So, stay
tuned. Look out, Library 2.0!
Here I come…
Let me give you the gist of this
entire post in one sentence:
Google is amazing. There you
have it. You needn’t read more
unless you really, really want to
enjoy the sultry sound of my
typed voice.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it
again: Google is great. Sure, part
of me thinks that they’re secretly
working on a plot for world
domination up at headquarters,
but if they keep making such
efficient technologies, I just may
be willing to give them a chance
to run the world.
Feel free to read, ponder
and discuss!
Fascinating site this Library
Things site. Whiled away a
couple of hours adding books I
have to my online library (only
got so far because I'm away
from the house right now).
Do not be surprised to see more
ramblings on my blog.... not
about using these tools, but
ramblings that are enhanced by
implementing these tools.
Wow, what a journey. I
thought it might be lame when
some of the initial tools were so
common, tools that I had
already toyed with, and
pontificated on their potential.
Then come a few newer ones,
like google reader, zotero,
rollyo and library thing.
I'm not going back and
capitalizing those proper
nouns, because this here be a
blog. We don't conform to
grammar standards round
here, because this is my house,
my page, my roll.
