2.3 applications of equations (oct 24 pre lesson)

  • 1. Warm-up 1 Write the function which takes a room of 50 m2 and decreases each dimension by the same value.
  • 2. Warm-up 2: translate the following into a mathematical relation • A presidential candidate in Indonesia must be at least 30 years old, while a presidential candidate in the United States of America must be at least 35 years old.

  • 4. Quiz on Wednesday over the following standard CCSS: Mathematics, CCSS: HS: Functions, Interpreting Functions HSF-IF.A. Understand the concept of a function and use function notation. HSF-IF.A.1. Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If f is a function and x is an element of its domain, then f(x) denotes the output of f corresponding to the input x. The graph of f is the graph of the equation y = f(x).
  • 5. Quiz on Wednesday over the following exercise type • Identify whether each of the relations are functions or not. 1. 2y + 3x = 6 2. y2 + 3x = 6 3. y = x−3 x+2 4. xy = y − x 5. 푥 = 푦−3 2푥2
  • 6. FYI: Aligned Common Core State Standards CCSS: Mathematics, CCSS: HS: Algebra, Creating Equations HSA-CED.A. Create equations that describe numbers or relationships. HSA-CED.A.1. Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include equations arising from linear and quadratic functions, and simple rational and exponential functions.
  • 7. Steps to interpreting word problems 1. Read the problem closely 2. Label unknown quantities 3. Draw a picture 4. Translate into mathematical language 5. Consolidate information into an equation 6. Solve for at least one variable 7. Find all unknown quantities 8. Check and interpret your answer
