Performance in Telemaric Spaces Nov 2004Mark Childs
Telematic performance involves linking remote performance spaces through telecommunications to create a shared virtual performance space. The document discusses a workshop on telematic performance between universities in Canterbury and Exeter that failed due to technical issues like delays and image freezing. It also discusses other examples of telematic performance and debates whether the genre is a new form of creative expression or if it lacks the corporeal aspects of live performance.
Lego is a great tool to build early prototypes of games and apps. At PUCPR’s, we stimulate students to supplement talking with making to increase shared understanding. Physical prototypes are quicker to build together in a team and can be used to test if ideas work in the real world. In this hands-on session, participants will have the opportunity to experiment three techniques: building Lego Serious Play models, making Lego prototypes and recording Lego video scenarios.
This document summarizes an information session about iConnect, a web conferencing platform managed by Education Queensland. iConnect allows communication between computers using an internet connection, headset, and video camera. It has many functions that could be useful for teaching, learning, and work practices. The session demonstrated how to set up and use iConnect's features like the participant window, whiteboard, chat, audio, video, polling, and file sharing. Attendees were encouraged to consider becoming trained moderators and using iConnect to connect with students, staff, communities, and for professional development opportunities.

We are currently experiencing a great moment in computer history: the transition of digital uses from descriptive (web interface, business intelligence…) to prescriptive (chatbots, voice assistant, Recommendation…). This upheaval is brought about by the revival of Artificial Intelligence techniques (machine learning/deep learning) made possible by the explosion of Artificial Intelligence data. As a result, the development profession will also undergo real changes over the next few years in order to meet new market needs. It is therefore interesting to take an interest in these issues today so as not to be caught short in the near future. This information will help you to navigate the world of Artificial Intelligence concepts, engines, and architectures to allow you demistify all the “myths” around it.
Social Mobile Learning: A Living and Learning ExperienceAffero Lab
This presentation aims to show the attendants the process and technologies involved in a solution designed so the student can have access to it in an informal learning online platform and through a tablet application. We call it a Social Mobile Learning Experience: after the base material is delivered, students, teachers and tutors can interact and collaborate with it. Indeed, it is a learning and living experience, since the interaction enriches the content, turning it into a unique experience, depending on how the community contributes and adds value to the resources.

This document summarizes Enterprise Social Computing and its transformation of collaboration and communication at Intel from 2004 to 2011. It describes how environmental pressures led Intel to adopt internal social tools like blogs, wikis and communities to improve knowledge sharing, reduce redundancy and connect a globally dispersed workforce. Examples are given of how different business units successfully used these tools. While adoption grew, challenges remained around leadership support, integration with existing systems and change management.
Using Algorithmia to leverage AI and Machine Learning APIsRakuten Group, Inc.
We are entering a new era of software development. Companies are realizing that AI and machine learning are critical to success in business, both to save cost on repetitive tasks, and to enable to new features and products that would be impossible without machine intelligence. Algorithmia makes these tools available through web APIs that makes tools like computer vision and natural language processing available to companies everywhere. Kenny will talk about how sharing of intelligent APIs can improve your applications.

Learningbloks is a proposed modular learning platform consisting of interchangeable electronic "bloks" that can be used to simulate hands-on learning activities across different subjects. The bloks would be wirelessly connected to a central console that provides instructions, collects data from onboard sensors, and allows for personalized learning experiences. If successful, Learningbloks would disrupt existing education technology by starting with underserved low-income schools and developing customized bloks and curricula. However, it faces challenges from large established competitors and requires an experienced team including investors, data scientists, and education experts to realize its vision of accessible, contextualized experiential learning anywhere.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
