• at 12:30-1:15 in 302 Boucke.

• Would you ever say "Yo dude, whassup?" to a professor instead of "How
are you?" Would you tell your friend "I'm so sorry I lied to you," or "I regret
to inform you that I have deceived your trust."? In this workshop, Candace
will let you learn some informal and formal vocabulary that can help you
function better in your academic and non-academic life. You will also
practice switching between formal and informal language. Plus, you will
learn about some tricks how to make new vocabulary stick in your memory.
Warm-Up

Thursday = passives + diagnostic
Friday = passives/review/gerunds and
infinitives
Tuesday = final exam (if you didn’t pass the
diagnostic)
Thursday = gerunds and infinitives

Passive voice game race
1. Your group will have one minute to change the following
active sentences into passive sentences. Write your
answers on your white board. Do not omit any
information from the original sentence.
2. Each group will get one point for each correct sentence.
3. The group that has the most points will win!

1. Scientists observed the tigers for six days.
2. Scientists are investigating the possibility of life on other
planets.
3. Some teachers should clean up the teachers' room.

Last Tutoring Workshop of the Semester • “How to Build your Vocabulary” • Thurs, July 18th , • at 12:30-1:15 in 302 Boucke. • • Would you ever say "Yo dude, whassup?" to a professor instead of "How are you?" Would you tell your friend "I'm so sorry I lied to you," or "I regret to inform you that I have deceived your trust."? In this workshop, Candace will let you learn some informal and formal vocabulary that can help you function better in your academic and non-academic life. You will also practice switching between formal and informal language. Plus, you will learn about some tricks how to make new vocabulary stick in your memory.

Do not omit any information from the original sentence. 2. Each group will get one point for each correct sentence. 3. The group that has the most points will win!
