This document provides the requirements and directions for a personal and exploratory writing workshop in an English 208 course. It explains that students will have one of their essays workshopped by the entire class, and will also provide written and verbal feedback on 3 peers' essays each week. For workshopped essays, students must distribute 26 copies to the class. When providing feedback, students must write notes on the essays, compose 200-word feedback letters addressing the authors' choices and effectiveness, and submit the letters online. The goal is to give observational feedback focused on how the assignment was addressed and class strategies were used.

DIRECTIONS
Once during the semester, you will have the opportunity to have your
writing workshopped by the class. This means that all of your
classmates will read your essay and provide you with both written and
verbal feedback.
Of course, this means that you will also be required to provide written
and verbal feedback to your peers throughout the semester. Every
week, you will be responsible for responding to (usually) three of your
peers’ work. This means writing notes on the essay itself, as well as
composing a thoughtful feedback letter in which you address the
choices the author made and to what extent those choices were
effective. Try to focus on the ways in which the author chose to deal with
the assignment requirements, as well as how they incorporated
strategies we have discussed in class.
(1) Read your peers’ essays for the week.
(2) Write any helpful marginal/line notes on the physical copy of the essays.
(3) Write a feedback letter to each author of approximately 200 words each.
(4) Your feedback letters should be observational (what choices did the author make, and were they
effective) and not judgmental (whether or not you liked the piece).
(5) Print your feedback letter and give it to the author along with your annotated copy of their essay. Submit
