This was the master presentation for the 2019 MACE conference. All speaker and video portions have been removed. This showcases the portion that I designed and laid out.
We started the Austin Weekly News West Side Business Network because we recognized a strong need to support the business community on Chicago's Greater West Side in terms of community outreach, exposure and networking. What started as an invitation for some local businesswomen and entrepreneurs to meet for breakfast has grown into a strong business network of more than 500 members, with subgroups including West Side Women, West Side Men, West Side Bridge, Austin Weekly News Business Development Group, and West Side Manufacturing Network.
We have partnered with a number of local nonprofits to create custom content in the form of special sections. Our team of edit designers, photographers, feature writers, sales staff and a project manager work hands on with the client to do what we do best — tell the story of the local community. We've created special sections covering topics ranging from mental illness, early childhood social-emotional development, housing crisis and opportunities, healthcare and education.
This is the first presentation developed for the Cy-Fair Express Network (CYFEN) of the American Business Women's Association. it was converted from Power Point to DVD and played at the Houston National Golf Club during the CYFEN annual EXPO.
Summer 2016, DRF interns explored and identified the unrealized, and often overlooked, resources in the smaller neighborhoods around the Dan River Region by engaging in Asset Based Community Development (ABCD). ABCD is an approach to community improvement which focuses on the identification of a neighborhood’s strengths, rather than its needs.
Interns were assigned to teams that worked within local neighborhoods to identify the skills, personalities, associations, institutions, structures and relationships that make up that particular community. This information will help DRF and residents gain insight into the resources available, and those still needed, to help the neighborhood thrive.
DRF believes that interns working at this grassroots level can contribute to our efforts to make significant changes in that community’s civic capacity. Therefore they are contributing towards the work of DRF’s larger, overall goal of a more vibrant and revitalized Dan River Region.
