CPR is an important part of the chain of survival for cardiac arrest victims and involves providing early access to care, early CPR, early defibrillation, and early advanced care. CPR consists of 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths in a 5 cycle sequence until emergency services arrive or the victim recovers. It should be performed with enough depth, at least 5 cm for adults, and stopped when ambulance arrives, the first aider is exhausted, the casualty recovers, or another first aider takes over. An AED can also be used to provide an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm in ventricular fibrillation.

To manage asphyxia, one should remove the casualty from the cause, open the airway to provide adequate air, start CPR if there is no breathing, and place the casualty in the recovery position once breathing is restored.

The respiratory system allows oxygen to pass from the air into the blood while expelling carbon dioxide. Air enters through the mouth or nose, passes down the throat, and divides into two branches before reaching small alveoli in the lungs where gas exchange occurs. The brain controls inspiration and expiration, with inhaled air containing 21% oxygen and exhaled air containing 16% oxygen and 4% carbon dioxide. An unconscious casualty's respiratory mechanism can be obstructed if the epiglottis does not function and the tongue falls back, blocking the airway. Signs of respiratory distress include noisy breathing which may be caused by objects on the head/face or around the neck. The first steps to take are opening the airway

The circulatory system comprises the heart and network of blood vessels. It circulates blood throughout the body to supply oxygen, distribute heat, transport nutrients, and collect waste.
The heart lies in the chest cavity between the lungs. It is a muscular, double pump divided into left and right sides. Factors like exercise, fever, stress, alcohol, and bleeding can increase heart rate. Average heart rates are 60-80 beats per minute for adults, 80-100 for children, and 100-120 for infants.
The main types of blood vessels are arteries, which carry oxygenated blood away from the heart; capillaries, which exchange fluids and gases; and veins, which return deoxygenated blood

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
