We specialize in the research and development of applied products based on

The company name “The Nine Color” symbolize nine, the complete number, as well as nine colors
made up of 7 colors of the rainbow, the gold color of Panax-Gold and Lacquer-Gold, as well as
the natural color of lacquer( Ott-Chil.)
It also reflects The Nine Color’s ability to express all the colors in the world, and signifies the

● What’s the Natural Lacquer Paint and The Nine Color’s Lacquer
paint products? Eco-friendly “GUCHAE Ott-Chil”
When an incision is made in the bark of the Lacquer tree, the tree secretes a milky liquid to heal
the cut. Oxidized after exposure to air, this becomes the black-hued Ott-Chil, which is harvested
and applied to furniture.
Utilized since ancient times, natural lacquer has many advantages, which include antibacterial
action, anti-fungal properties, insect repellant properties, weather resistance, heat resistance, wear
resistance, water resistance, chemical resistance, adhesive properties, ability to remove hazardous
TVOCs(Total Volatile Organic Compounds), humidity control, fingerprint resistance, blocking
electromagnetic waves, blocking interference from waterveins, and more.
Nonetheless, there were a number of limitations which prevented lacquer's use as industrial paint
and varnish .
1) it's allergy inducing properties made it difficult for many to use,
2) the dark color of lacquer made expressing vibrant colors impossible,
3) it would react to some metallic pigments which distorted and made it impossible to express its
own color,
4) it required a long drying period and precise drying conditions.
Working hard to preserve the tradition of lacquer, The Nine Color's researchers have refined and
processed a natural lacquer and manufactured the user-friendly lacquer paint with the superior
drying quality of traditional lacquer. Unlike other paints that add chemicals and heavy metals in
order to preserve wood, our product is RoHS compliant, adding natural lacquer product to provide
that functionality instead.
The separation, refinement and processing of lacquer's main component, urushiol, and the
development of thermo-setting lacquer paint and “room temperature setting” lacquer paint has led
to the creation of a new lacquer paint that can be easily applied by anyone. And named GUCHAE
Ott-Chil(The name of Korean lacquer) for new lacquer paint products.
We have developed new hardening processes for Ott-Chil. With the successful synthesis of a
Transparent Lacquer polymer and Golden Lacquer polymer we can preserve the strengths of
traditional lacquer and fix its weak points. Overcoming the limitations of traditional lacquer has
opened up a new window for the lacquer. In particular, Lacquer-Gold paint has the feature of being
able to be used as a substitute paint for gilding, revealing a brilliant golden-hue when applied to
gray or yellow metallic luster.
The development of polymer synthesis methods using vegetable-based oils such as cashew oil,
linseed oil, and tung oil, has opened the way for the development of a pure natural lacquer paint.
We have added to lacquer's functionality by blending Transparent Lacquer polymer (PU) or Golden
Lacquer polymer (YU) with commercial-use paint. This mixing of environmentally-friendly pigments
and the development of lacquer paint products with a high saturation of diverse colors has opened

Refined Natural Paint
Characteristics Hwang-Chil contains up to 20 kinds of sesqui-Terpenes
found in the golden resin that is harvested from the
Hwang-Chil tree which grows in the subtropical forests of
the Korean peninsula’s south western coast.
Historical records refer to Hwang-Chil as being the exclusive
property of emperors such as Qín ShǐHuáng, Dang Tae
Jong, and Gengis Khan. It is even mentioned in the preface
of Chu Hsi's I-Ching. Many historical records also exist in
Korea describing it as a precious lacquer. More recently, the
gilding of the throne and four columns of the Hall of
Supreme Harmony in Beijing's Forbidden City was coated
with Hwang-Chil that was offered as atribute. Considered

Soap
lacquer tree extract soap(left) is effective in the improvement of atopic skin,
acne treatment and foot odor.
Lacquer cleaning Soap(right): If lacquer gets on your skin while applying
paint, you can wash your skin using Lacquer Cleaning Soap. The soap is
designed for both sink or shower use, and can also be used to clean used
paint brushes. Regular soap is not effective at removing lacquer.
