An Introduction to GODAN and the Secretariat
GODAN (Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition) was established to make agricultural and nutritional data openly available worldwide to help address increasing global demand for food and nutrition security. The GODAN Secretariat was launched in late 2014 to support GODAN as a network for 5 years by enhancing collaboration, advocacy, and knowledge sharing among partners. The Secretariat will identify working groups, improve coordination, and organize events to stimulate open data use and replicate successes. Its goals are to make agricultural data more accessible, usable and available without restriction to benefit food security globally.

Open agricultural and nutrition data can help address global hunger, poverty, and innovation challenges. GODAN is a global open data network with over 260 partners that encourages collaboration and sharing of open agricultural and nutrition data. This document discusses the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP), a new initiative to strengthen agricultural innovation systems in tropical countries. TAP aims to [1] increase coordination and alignment between capacity development interventions, [2] develop solutions at scale with lower costs, and [3] enhance knowledge sharing. It will do this by convening stakeholders, enabling partnerships, and creating more coherent actions aligned with country needs. FAO will facilitate TAP globally and help with an initial assessment of capacities and needs, the development of a strategic plan and guidelines, and enhanced policy dialogue and capacity building partnerships. Over 60 organizations are initial partners in TAP, which will have an inception phase followed by full implementation.

With all the challenges on the horizon, we are pleased to be exploring the future of land use via another Open Foresight major project kicking off in October and running through until next summer.
Addressing pivotal issues from food production, soil quality, water scarcity and biosphere protection to urbanisation, leisure use and land ownership, this global collaborative project is focused on the critical issues and potential solutions for the future.
Undertaken in collaboration with a wide range of major organisations, including the WWF as our global knowledge partner, the locations and schedule for the programme are now being detailed.
