Dr Bernard Cadogan gave observations on rhetoric and public speaking at the McGuinness Institute in Wellington. He provided "Do's" which included being transparent and telling the truth as the public expects. "Don'ts" included not pretending superiority, being moralistic, zealous, or personal. Two structures for rhetorical architecture were described as mimesis phases and the triune of technique, critique, and mystique in political philosophy. A list of notable speeches in New Zealand history was also provided.
