Simulation of a Successful Polymer Flood-Shrinath GhadgeShrinath Ghadge
A successful polymer flood was conducted in Courtenay sand of Chateaurenard Field located in south of Paris, France. The objective of the study is to conduct parametric sensitivity analysis of polymer flooding using a compositional simulator developed at University of Texas. The simulator called UTCHEM was used for this purpose. Oil recovery was dominated by factors such as polymer adsorption, fractional flow and heterogeneity.

This project “Study of drill cutting and Formulation of drilling fluid.” was performed in R&D LAB, Institute of drilling technology, ONGC, dehradun. Study of drill cutting is done in terms of CST(capillary suction time), MBC(Methylene Blue Capacity) and XRD(X-ray diffraction).
• Later than several drilling fluid with different formulation are prepared and several tests (like Rheology Test, Lubricity Test, API Filter press, Linear swell Test and pH test) are performed on drilling fluid to check the suitability of it on drill cutting. Thus the suitable formulation of drilling fluid is found.
Produced water reinjection (PWRI) is one of the most usual ways of produced water reuse in mature fields with high water cut.
The relationship between water quality and injectivity decline in wells is well known and it is particularly important in mature
fields, such as Barrancas, an old field located in Mendoza –Argentina, with more than 40 years of water injection. In this
reservoir significant injectivity losses were recorded when fresh water was replaced by produced water in the 90´s.
Formation Damage mechanism is mainly caused by external cake. Particles are principally, iron sulfide, calcium carbonate,
and oil droplets.

Salt ions and water molecules leak through wide gaps between clay surfaces, thus

CHEMICAL OSMOSIS IN MULTIPHASE SYSTEM
The leakage mechanism promotes water-oil counter-
current flow.
The invaded low-salinity water dilutes salt concentration in the formation brine and causes
detachment of the molecular bridge (Ca2+/Na+) between the clay surface and oil, thus
increasing water wetting of the surface.

DISCUSSIONS AND CONCLUSIONS
• Low-salinity brine injection could improve oil recovery in oil-
bearing shale formation by:
• Counter-current oil flow induced by osmoticity and capillarity

• In gas-bearing shale formations, osmotic pressure may be the
reason for enhanced gas production when a newly stimulated
well is shut in for several months
