We are a group of Project Management professionals in Berlin who have started a Meetup group to regularly exchange experiences and ideas to help one another continuously grow in our profession. The group was formed because members found value in the discussions at PM Camp Berlin and wanted to create a forum for professionals from diverse backgrounds beyond just coaches and consultants. The Meetup occurs once a month around a topic proposed by members, and involves learning activities like exercises and discussions.
Today most professionals will agree that communication is vital for project sccuess. But when you are running from meeting to meeting in your daily business it can be hard to believe that these are actually helping you to achieve anything.
Last time we got into a fun discussion around Agile and the difference to ... hmm? ... to what?
It would be far fetched to claim that there is a comprehensive and generally accepted understanding of what Agile is. But what are we comparing against? It appears that at the moment the term "traditional project management" is quite popular and its even more vague than Agile.
Let's be brave and tackle that beast. What Project Management schools of thought are out there? What are the differences? And what are the arguments for one or the other?
